WEST HAM impressed on their last outing at Newcastle as Sam Allardyce, Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll made their former team suffer.

The Hammers have taken a decent haul of 18 points and unlike fellow promoted sides Reading and Southampton have adapted quicker to like in the top flight.

That's partly down to the experience of Sam Allardyce who knows what it's all about at this level. West Ham are back on home soil to take on a Stoke side who have set the standard for teams coming up. However, this season Tony Pulis's men are finding it tougher going and goals have been a problem.

Stoke have gather just three points on their travels and netted just five times so there's every chance they'll leave Upton Park empty-handed. In fact their last away success in the Premier League came at Blackburn in January.

Charlie Adam's goal earned Stoke just their second win of the season last week against QPR but before that they'd failed to net against Norwich and Sunderland.

A word of warning though. I'm as confident about West Ham beating Stoke as I was Fulham seeing off Sunderland. Fulham looked the better side until Brede Hangeland was sent off in the first off. Slightly harsh but very harsh and incidents such as that can make life hell for punters.

It's one reason why you should never bet more than you can afford to lose even if you strongly fancy your selection.

Anyway I'm on the Hammers at a biggest 21-20 with the likes of William Hill and Paddy Power and for first scorer Nolan must have a chance again at 7-1 with bet365 and Ladbrokes. Nolan netted the goal at Newcastle last week and had one wrongly ruled out for offside in West Ham's last home match – a commendable 0-0 draw with Man City.

Carroll, looking for his first goal for the club, is 11-2 at Coral and William Hill to break the deadlock but the player I'm taking a chance on is midfielder Mark Noble.

He gets forward well from midfield, has a decent shot and takes penalties. Noble is a biggest 14-1 at Coral but I'm considering taking 12-1 at Ladbrokes.

The Magic Sign will refund losing stakes if Noland scores first or last so backing Noble there gives you a bit of insurance.

Recommendations

West Ham
(21-20, various)

Noble to score first
(12-1, Ladbrokes, stake refunded if Nolan scores first/last)

I know many of you don’t like betting on foreign lower league matches, but Fc Wil, at home to Lugano, in the swiss challenge league tonight are priced up at evens. Any similar match up in this country would result in a 1/2 price at best…well done yesterday Paul, and all others who had a profitable day. Agree west ham should win tonight, can see a 1-0 or 2-1 score line. Hertha Berlin also look a decent bet in German 2nd division.

Danny and Mr Broke it, I’m happy enough with West Ham and Hertha but as I said earlier Roma are struggling at the moment. Just had a look at the Racing Post who have tipped a draw so they’re worried by Roma’s form too. What about that Swiss side FC WIl suggested by Luke? I’m not doing much tonight, just an interest on West Ham because I’ll be watching that game in the office, and I’ve already started looking at the Champions League games. Best value bets on Tuesday look like Braga and BATE but that’s an early thought. And for Chris Guy you can have 11-1 Mulgrew to score and 7-1 Wanyama to score. Both are big prices if you think Celtic will do well in Benfica.

In my opinion this game has a draw written all over it, I think it will be either 0-0 or 1-1 … Both teams have a big guy up front and I will also be backing both Caroll and Crouchy to bag a goal each tonight …

Danny you are right to suggest both teams like to pick up cards both teams like a scrap, However just take note that the referee tonight is Chris Hoy and he has so far overseen 8 League games, and has dished out the fewest cards per game than any other official in English football’s top flight.

Tony, before the tournament started I’d have agreed with you, 2-0 or 3-0 Benfica. But Celtic’s results deserve respect and you can’t ignore the fact they scored two in Moscow and one in Barcelona.

Anyone else looked at that swiss challenge league game? I’d like to be confident with it, but I’ve only got form to go by. The form only points to one possible outcome, but as we all know, anything can happen in any game. Just look at Norwich beating united, and Celtic beating Barcelona for two perfect examples. But I can’t not beat on Fc Wil at those odds. Hopefully it’s not the usual case of what seems that the bookies know something we don’t

Just looking ahead 2 this weeks Champions League games, some decent value here I believe…….
Kevin Mitroglu anytime @ 7/2 Olympiakos v Schalke. Schalke’s defence isn’t their strong point,Olympiakos usually score away from home and this guy is in good form.
Alan anytime @ 5/2 Braga v Cluj. Same reasons as above really.
Ajax draw no bet v Dortmund @ 15/8. Was very impressed with Ajax v Man.City and they’re in good form. Also,Dortmund haven’t won away from home in the Champions League in a while

Jonathan, most of these make sense but Dortmund have been as impressive as any. Forget their record away from home. They are much better than that this time and were unlucky not to win in the Bernabeu.

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Andronis, how can I be sure? It’s simply a prediction not a declaration of what will happen. There are no sure things in football. Look at Celtic v Barca, Norwich v Man Utd as recent examples. The closest you’ll get to a sure thing is when bookies know it and price it up as 1-100 or 1-50. West Ham are available at evens so bookies are saying half the time they’ll win the game and half the time they won’t.

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Andronis, as I say it’s no cert. I’ve tipped up the game because it’s Monday’s live TV offering and people want to know my thoughts. There’s no reason for you to punt big on this when you could wait for a better opportunity on another night. Also if you are betting with such big stakes you can afford to build your pot up slower by backing sides who are more likely to win at prices about 1-4 or 1-3.

I’m a stoke fan and in tony pull is we have a manager who has taken us as far as he can. He plays players out of position and is totally negative we couldn’t score last year so now we play with crouchy on his own up front with Walters out wide. My tip would be a narrow west ham win possibly 1-0 or 2-1. Pullis will play for a 0-0 so my advice would be if you want to be entertained watch something else.

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Robbie, it certainly has the feel of an unders game but 2-5 is poor. The problem is it could be 0-0 or 1-0 but an early goal or a sending off could change everything. That happened at Fulham yesterday when a match that maybe looked like 1-0 Fulham could have ended about 5-3 to Sunderland after Hangeland’s red card.

Luke, what do you mean by that? Bookies priced up West Ham as warm favourites. They’ve started poorly and lost a bad goal. In the Premier League the team that turns up will win and that’s why I advised against betting big on this game to the punter earlier.
