THERE are some great games to welcome back the Premier League and first up it's the return of Jose Mourinho.
The Special One, although he'd rather be the Humble One, takes charge of Spurs at West Ham just days after replacing Mauricio Pochettino.
He's not had much time to work with the players, but I'm sure they'll be looking to impress, and I can see Spurs winning well and Harry Kane scoring first.
Brighton vs Leicester and Crystal Palace could be 3pm sizzlers and in the evening we have the game of the day as Man City entertain Chelsea. Should be a cracker with plenty of goals.

I’ll do a little write up a bit later but I’m thinking Derby are a big price to beat visiting Preston. Whilst we’ve been woeful away from home including a 1 nil away loss to Forest before the international break, we did play well in the first half AND Derby have won 4 on the bounce at home. I’m thinking it will be 5 from 5 home wins for the rams. Thank god for home games, it’s giving our season a glimmer of hope, although expectations for the season amongst the faithful are not that high.
With Preston having more consistency across the board, they’ll surely fancy their chances against Derby. However, the only thing propping up Derby’s win tally is their home record. We’re 2 months into our customary purple patch that has not happened yet. It is the first season for a long time where Derby have failed to gain momentum at this stage of the season. Without home wins, we’d be in the bottom 3. So many if’s and buts around how and why we’re in this mess but it equates to not putting in solid performances on the road. The last match was away to Forest and we played well for the first half, but then the sloppy Bogle back-pass was enough to have the hosts capitalize. Bogle never recovered from his mistake and it led to more – he should of been subbed because his head dropped. But we do have our home form to shine the light. We’ve 4 wins from 4 at Derby and even with Preston doing well, I think bet365’s price for a Derby win @ 19/10 is big.
I’ve done a split stake on this and had a £5 on the win @ 19/10 and a £5 on the -1 with bet365 @ 9/2.
On a separate note, I think the chosen one will be an impact manager, I just have this gut feeling he’ll get Spurs firing on some of the cylinders – especially today – and away – in the away trip across town to West ham. I also had a separate £10 on Spurs -1 @ 7/4 with bet365.
Sadly, I will not be awake to hear match commentary or give team news, but I don’t think there is much Derby can change. I still think Roos between the sticks is a mistake. I’d change him for loanee Hamar.

Celtic at home domestically is always tough to find some value in with the odds being so short but could be an easier way than usual to an odds against selection with minimal fuss. Celtic are between 1/8 & 1/10 to win so need too add a few mitigating circumstances….
Celtic have failed to beat Livingston in 3 of 4 league meetings since their return to the top tier although the last one Christie was sent off early for a horrific tackle in a 2-0 loss. Since that Celtic have been scintillating home and away taking 6 off Ross County,4 at Pittodrie,5 at Hampden against Hibs and of course those 2 stunning victories over Lazio. People can yak away all they like about Lazios abilities or lack of but they are 3rd in Seria A and 5 points in front of the much lauded Napoli.

Livingston are a physical team and this is reflected in their position as 3rd worst in the fair play table although they’ve picked up the 2nd highest yellow card count of 24.

As I pointed out yesterday successfully in oz, certain games are made for the skybet total goals/corners/cards bet, and this one looks another to me. Both sides are scoring plenty and struggling to keep the back door shut, so I can’t see anyway it will be under 1.5mgs. The 8.5 corners line we all know city could cover that themselves, but I expect Chelsea to chip in as well as they are a good side for corners. The cards for me will be the difficult one but both Chelsea full backs will be in for a torrid evening and with the likes of Fernandinho and Jorginho playing both are never too far away from the refs attention.

Bragging about the size of your stakes – very classy. The point I’ve been trying to make is all it takes is for you to pick out the wrong game and it’s a disaster. It’s worked out for you today (apparently) but if it didn’t you’d be seriously down. It reeks of impulsive gambling which often leads to problems down the line. Your NFL bets seem to be quite well thought out but your football bets are quite frankly ridiculous.

Since moving up to super middleweight from middleweight John Ryder has had 6 bouts and comes into his first ever world title fight tonight on the back of 4 consecutive KO’s since losing to Rocky Fielding via majority decision. I’m not one that follows triangle theory but in this case its hard to ignore as Smith required just 1 round in which to annihilate Fielding in where Ryder could only go the full distance with him and still lost. Callum Smith is absolutely huge for the weight and will not doubt move up to light heavyweight in the not so distance future. At 6 foot 3 and having a reach advantage of 6 inches (78 inches compared to the 72 inches of Ryder) Smith is going to find it very easy keeping Ryder on the end of the jab and he’ll be able to follow it up with cross’ and hooks. I’m essentially using his victory over George Groves as the yardstick here (an elite level yardstick at that) as it was in round 7 that he knocked him out at the World Boxing Super Series. Smith has actually faced an opponent who just like Ryder moved up to super middleweight from middleweight in Hassan N’Dam in June and he brutally drilled him to the canvas in round 3 in what is a knock out of the year candidate.

Exact method of victory – Luis Ortiz by KO 18/1 Bet365 1.5 Points
Eighteen months on from the first fight they’ll rematch in Vegas in the early hours of Sunday Morning. Champion Wilder is an absolutely murderous puncher, pound for pound probably the hardest puncher in the sport of boxing but he does have vulnerable moments in fights and his technical skills are quite poor. Ortiz comes into this fight at 40 years of age (although he’s rumored to be older after defecting from Cuba) and should on paper get blown out in even more convincing style than when he was knocked out in round 10 of their first fight. Throughout boxing history, rematches involving young and old fighters nearly always go the way of the younger fighter. My view on this fight though is it really comes down to who hurts who first. Ortiz also brings just as much power to the ring albeit from the southpaw stance, which usually presents orthodox fighters with a look they’re not as familiar with. Those who watched the first fight will recall Ortiz putting Wilder in grave trouble during round 7, literally one clean shot away from knocking him out cold but the round ended and Ortiz’ exertions in that round essentially emptied the tank. If this fight does go the scorecards there is no way they’ll award it Ortiz because he’s not as marketable to the masses being old and unable to speak English. Similarly I cannot see the referee stopping it if Wilder is taking punishment, they’ll no doubt give him the benefit of the doubt, so the only way Ortiz can win it is by KO. He’s taken this camp very seriously weighing in at his lightest weight for 4 years and has been grinding hard in camp. It’s likely he’ll get laid out but given his counter punching ability and the fact that he nearly stopped Wilder in the first fight I’m willing to risk 1.5 points.

Yeah agree with you thats what I’ve mentioned in the last sentance but given the price being offered and that we’ve seen Ortiz badly hurt Wilder before/clash of styles between the two fighters I’m more than happy to take a gamble on it. Even though he is 40 I think the bookies have forgotten that at heavyweight it only takes one punch and like when a 45 year old George Forman knocked out a prime Michael Moorer for the IBF title.
