IT’S seemed a long close season but we are back up and running.
As usual I’ll pick out a variety of tips including singles, doubles and trebles as well as goals and first-scorer bets.
Towards the end of last season I started putting up a moneyback fivefold and usually it won or was void so I’ll be doing it again as well as putting up a separate post. Aways and draws for low stakes – draws back next week.
The opening weekend isn’t one for the faint-hearted so don’t risk too much. I've posted some Scottish and English previews as well as reasoning for the both to score trebles.

There but for the grace of god we were born and grew up as football fans – for those that aren’t, no explanation is good enough…for those that are, no explanation is needed ?
Posted both my opening day picks during the week and no reason to change either…
My beloved Bury are back in action at Fortress Gigg on Saturday – there’s a lot of new faces and it may take some time for Clark’s new charges to gel – could be a decent outfit as long as we don’t continue the horrendous injury run of the last campaign.
My best early prediction is that we’ll be somewhere on the outskirts of the playoffs come the season-end…expect more of the same ‘open’ (?) football with us conceding and scoring plenty.
On that line, it’s obvious that James Vaughan’s Sunderland exit will be a big loss but in McGuire, Adjose and Beckford, we ought to still carry a significan threat up top.
The latter has looked sharp pre-season and despite never really fulfilling his early potential, he’ll certainly not be the first striker to ‘find his feet’ lower down the leagues…much like Vaughan himself.
Saturday’s opponents Walsall don’t look to hot heading into the season but certainly have some talent in the side – there was a sh*t load of goals in the last 3 H2H’s (3-3, 3-3, 2-3!) and I can see both teams getting in on the act again.

SALFORD VS. DARLO:
Two of last season’s top sides go head to head here – for those that don’t pay close heed to the NLN, you may look at the last encounter that saw Salford blow Darlington away 5-1 to seal a (doomed) play-off spot…but!
Shortly before that particular game, Darlo – after a cracking campaign – learnt that they were ineligible for a potential promotion on the grounds of their stadium not meeting requirements for the National League.
Darlo had pretty much maintained their grace up until that point but you could tell reality had hit heading into the game and the result was not (in my humble opinion) a fair reflection of the disparity between the two sides.
Don’t be put off by the big price, I’m confident The Quakers will once again be a force in the NLN and will be a good match against a very decent Salford side!
Interestingly, (and of note to anyone backing) they have launched a ‘phased’ £192,000 fundraising drive to meet the said criteria which will (if met) see them through a successful promotion campaign…a great story of ups and down and I’ve great admiration and feeling for the fan-owned club and their ongoing issues off the pitch.

Had a poor start to August but hoping to bounce back with some MLS action.
DC United have been getting whipped about the MLS this season and have shipped 3+ goals in all of their last four ties (4 in three of those games). Toronto on the other hand have 10 wins from their last 15 and have only failed to score on the road twice in 11 games. Bradley, Altidore and Giovinco are all set to start after their MLS All-Star game, so hopefully they should add to what is a team needing a big rebuild in the East.

Firstly Celtic went all last season unbeaten and have one hell of a record at home in the SPL and add to that the fact Hearts have no manager suggests to me that anything other then a home win would be a major shock. Chicago Fire have hit a rough patch not winning in 3 but only losing 1 of them three games. However at home they are unbeaten all season winning 9 and drawing 1. Blackburn are the bookies favourites for the League One title before a ball has been kicked in anger and you’d have to think with the squad at manager Tony Mowbray’s disposal they have a very decent chance of fulfilling expectations. Striker Danny Graham should fill his boots at this level, while in midfield Peter Whittingham is a classy addition who brings bags of experience (how is he only 32?!). Defensively Charlie Mulgrew’s continued presence provides the back four with leadership and a solid base. On paper Rovers’ squad is one of the best in recent memory for a third tier side and I fancy them to lay down a marker down by the seaside today. Despite their travails last season Blackburn didn’t struggle for goals so I am taking them to hit two or more at 8/5 with Coral.

Braunschweig scored 50 goals last season, 35 of them at home. They beat today’s opponents 3-2 back in March and only missed out on promotion after losing the Promotion/Relegation Playoffs to Wolfsburg. They managed to scored twice last weekend at Dusseldorf and I expect them to do so again in today’s match.
Heidenheim are certainly no push-overs but their first competitive match of the season only lasted 15 mins and was abandoned due to torrential rain. They have also lost two important players in Kleindienst and Jankowski.

CORINTHIANS VS. SPORT RECIFE (2300 KO):
Recife have been little belters for sneaking a goal in games they ‘ought not too’ and looks like the bookies have finally cottoned on with prices on the last game being markedly shorter than relatively priced previous games…the swines.
Tonight’s visit to the mighty Corinthians will be as tough an ask as any this season but I’m taking it on (as well as Clyde by the sounds of it ?) and think they’ll once again eek out a goal – remember, they’ve failed to score in only 8 of their last 68!
As an additional note, 2016 saw two unsuccessful H2H’s for Recife but 2015’s fixtures saw a 2-0 Recife win and a narrow 4-3 loss for the visitors – should be a great game with Corinthians missing a couple of players via injuries whilst Recife have the same absent courtesy of suspensions.
