IT was a day of no bets for me on Bank Holiday Monday – and not really a holiday either as papers are produced every day bar one.
Luckily we have plenty of contributors to the site who spotted a bonanza, led by Greg and HullShaker, and well done to all the winners on the Scottish Reserves and English National League.
The only bet I fancied was Inter but they were too short and I decided to leave Romelu Lukaku bets alone for now. Those who did Inter to win and Lukaku to score called it correctly and it was an extremely one-sided game with promoted Lecce looking out of their depth.
Tuesday's much busier with three Champions League qualifiers, tricky EFL Cup ties and the dreaded EFL Trophy as well as foreign games such as winless Montpellier against a Lyon side that's started with two big wins in Ligue 1.
Team news is vital for the EFL Cup games as most sides will be weakened, with many making 10 or 11 changes, and for me the EFL Trophy is a no-no.
In the Champions League Krasnodar kick off 4-0 down to Olympiacos so that's all over. There should be plenty of goals as Red Star entertain Young Boys after a 2-2 draw while Rosenborg need a minor miracle as they trail Dinamo Zagreb 2-0.
For my main bet I'm avoiding the English games and going with Lyon and both to score at Red Star. Lyon tempt at over evens away to a side who have started slowly but an alternative could be both to score with seven out of eight meetings at Montpellier bringing up this bet.
Lyon have lost just one of the last seven there and having started with 6-0 and 3-0 wins and with strikers Memphis Depay and Moussa Dembele on fire I think they'll get the job done at a fair price.
Four of Red Star's last five matches have been score draws so btts looks a decent shout as they and attack-minded Young Boys have a Champions League shoot-out in Belgrade.
Normally when I look at goals bets I study stats but not much point in the EFL Cup when we don't know the strength of line-ups. I could have left the double as my only bet but I have profit to play with so happy to risk 1pt on an over 2.5 goals treble and it's not quite picked at random but definitely a risky one.
I'm refusing to do WDW bets on the Cup and for anyone who fancies them I'd suggesting waiting until team line-ups start rolling in. Those who stand out if they play some regulars include Leeds at home to Stoke, West Ham at Newport, Aston Villa at Crewe, Norwich at Crawley and Palace at home to Colchester.

Am on a red card trixie in the CLQ tonight . I think there is a decent chance of a double
I’d leave the Olympiacos game out bro as game looks dead and buried after 4-0 scoreline in 1st leg, defo think there is potential for one in Norway though.
Yeah kyle . I seen that mate . I will be delighted with the double on the other two . Three would be a bonus mate .
CAPE TOWN CITY VS. KAIZER CHIEFS
South African PSL
27 August 2019
18:30
Top of the table Chiefs travel to unbeaten CTC and I’m expecting goals at both ends this evening.
Cape Town City have scored in all their league matches this season, with btts featuring in 2 of the 3 fixtures so far and they generally score at home.
Kaizer Chiefs have also scored in all their 3 league matches so far this season, scoring 5 goals and conceding 3.
I think there’s value in both teams to score Benni McCarthy’s side should be confident of scoring here and I believe the Amakhosi can score as well and maintain their top of the table position.
Both teams to score has also featured in this PSL fixture 4 out the last 5 times the Amakhosi visited Newlands stadium.
Best bet
Both teams to score
Odds 11/10
SHANGHAI SIPG VS. URAWA REDS
AFC Champions League
27 August 2019
12:30
SIPG lost their last match at home to Shandong Luneng and I’m backing them to bounce back with a win.
SIPG are one of the best teams in Asia, 3rd in the CSL and they will be looking for a win their first leg matchup against their Japanese counterparts today. 5 of their last 8 home league matches have produced wins with 4 of them covering the -1 handicap.
The Red diamonds are currently 11th in the J league and I’m pretty sure they will be more focused on improving their league position than going all out in the Champions League, and take less risks. Urawa have lost 3 of their last 5 away matches with all of them covering the -1 handicap. these losses came against Oita Trinita, Yokohama Marinos and Vissel Kobe. Vissel Kobe is the only team I mentioned that is of the same quality as SIPG
Best bet
Home win(-1)
Odds 17/10
ILVES VS. HIFK
Veikkausliiga
27 August 2019
16:30
Goals at both ends should feature in this late afternoon Finnish top league clash.
Ilves find themselves 3rd on the table due to their impressive form this season. In their last 8 home matches BTTS has featured 4 times and they have scored 12 goals and conceded 8 in that period as well.
HIFK find themselves in 9th position they are usually in the top 5 and they will be doing everything to improve their league position. BTTS has featured in their last 3 away matches, 2 of those were against top of the table inter Turku(3-2) and 2nd on the table KuPS(1-1), now they face 3 rd on the table and I think there’s good value for another BTTS scoreline.
Best bet
Both teams to score

AFC Champions League
Chinese hotshots Shanghai SIPG take on Urawa red diamonds here with neither side in any sort of form (both have only 2 wins from their last 7 matches). ive mentioned numerous times before that home advantage is very important in this competition so I fancy the home side to sneak this today in a fairly tight affair.

England EFL Cup
Over 2.5 Goals Treble
Bristol Rovers v Brighton
Cardiff v Luton
Crystal Palace v Colchester
Treble pays 4/1 at B365
Bristol Rovers have scored 9 at home in their last 3 games and Brighton have seen 2 of the last 3 games go over 2.5
Cardiff and Luton met just a few weeks ago which finished 2-1 and this could be the same, Cardiff can score but always conceed.
Two of Palaces last three games have gone over 2.5 as have their oponents Colchester.
Appreciate team news could be crucial in these games but worth a point at 4/1 in my opinion.
Crewe vs Aston Villa over 2.5 goals
Crystal palace vs colchester over 2.5 goals
Crawley vs Norwich over 2.5 goals
Leeds vs stoke over 2.5 goals
Northampton vs Arsenal U21 over 2.5 goals

Aberdeen have a few 1st team squad players in team. Scott Wright and Main play

LOST XXX
away side netting 2 was more than I expected and helped bust the bet
Forest/Derby EFL cup early thoughts:
Whilst Forests results are marginally better than Derby’s in the league, I’ve a feeling that Derby have it all to do tonight. For a few seasons now ( in the league ), Derby have struggled to impose their game on Forest away from home and the points tally is swayed in Forests favour. The last 6 encounters at Forest have seen Forest win 1-0 three time and three draws.
Two of the last three head to heads ( home and away have ended 0-0 ).
Both teams will make changes tonight, but I’ve a feeling that Forest will not lose tonight. their results recently are better, they seem a bit more organised than Derby and will surely want the bragging rights.
I can’t help but feel the cup runs that Derby have enjoyed this past few seasons have shot us in the foot come the business and of the season. I’d prefer no cup games for the Rams at the earliest convenience, but this is local rivalry tonight. Although there have been 2 of 3 matches ended 0-0 and the last being 1-0 to Forest, I think BTTS tonight should deliver.
Bet365 have BTTS @ 4/5 tonight.
For the purpose of my overs 0.5’s tmg’s challenge, I have to steer clear of this one. 2 out of 3 head to heads being 0-0 throw up 2 red flags. It’s contradictory to my BTTS, but the nature of the overs challenge is to be ruthless in culling games from our list of maybe’s.
I’ve not checked up on prices today yet, and I will be having a little nibble at a couple of matches. I had a bet free day yesterday, so I’m still on day 5 – just over £19. 4 days of nibbling had eaked out a 90% profit on my start stake. It’s not for everybody, but it also helps dial in your spending with the bookies. I’ll be back on this afternoon with a couple of picks.
Small stakes just for intrest Acca:
Nancy v Ajjaco o1.5 Goals

Al Jeddah v Al hilal o1.5 Goals

Thanks vishal. Got on them -1, -2 and -3 handicap in play. Happy days !!
Overs 0.5’s tmg’s day 5:
Staggered kick offs and I’ve taken a bit of a cue from the site and whilst I don’t really enjoy including cup games in my overs challenge, I have opted for one which should deliver.
18:00hrs Montpellier/Lyon @ 1/20
19:45hrs Leeds/Stoke @ 1/20
Usual rules, ride them for 2/3/4 price rises then drop on your bet. Hopefully you can then repeat in the Leeds game.
I know Leeds must be prioritizing the league, but we’re only a handful of games into this campaign and they have the squad + momentum to get past Stoke. I know Leeds have recently dropped out of the domestic cups at an early stage but they are playing a potential championship playoff contender, I’m sure they’ll want to lay down a marker tonight .
Derby team news and late thoughts around an hour before kick off.
Thanks for the picks Nathan – Montpellier/Lyon goal on the 42nd minute :)
Onto Leeds.
And Leeds goal in at 39th minute.
Full house again Nathan :)
Yep. It’s hardly a big deal picking a game with a goal, it’s avoiding the duds and trying to keep the brakes on. Believe it or not, I try to not visualize making a set percentage on my pot each day, just grateful to survive until the next day with a few quid increased. It’s a challenge in itself to remain grounded and stay focused for several days, especially early on in the challenge.
I won’t be looking at any games until tomorrow afternoon. Maybe there’s a few ripe for a goal.
An interesting enough experiment.
By the way anyone on my goals treble can cover. I’m putting 1pt on under 2.5 goals at Crawley at 13-10.
Aberdeen 4-1 Ross County
Hearts 3-1 St Mirren
Hamilton 1-0 Dundee United
Full Times in the Reserve Cup – probably deserved a little bit better given the number of goals. Combination of bad luck and bookies setting markets at 4.5 for the Aberdeen game
Having said Hearts and Aberdeen were strong, and the united game was evenly matched, in hindsight should have left the United game out.
Well done if anyone got involved inplay in the second half
Poor showing today but again plenty of goals
Breaking news….
The consortium in talks about taking over bury FC have just announced they can’t proceed as several criteria have not been met to allow them to proceed.
The deadline is 5pm.

Pretty gutted to be honest…
Didn’t think they’d have the cash to proceed to be honest, only got £180K in assets according to reports which is not gonna go anywhere at Bury…

Derby team news: 10 changes for Derby. I really am not liking this b*&&*cks. 10 changes, I mean I know its a league cup game, but you’d think the manager would put out a side that is capable of not making a d&*% of themselves away to our bitter rivals. Rant over.
I don’t even know what position some of these players favour.
Hamer – he’s a Goalkeeper
Clarke and Davies in central midfield, Holmes back from injury and Shinnie back in the squad along with Bennett up front. Buchanen is the only player to retain his sheet.
Hamer, Clarke, Davies, Holmes, Shinnie, Bennett, Patterson, Evans, Sibley, Whittaker, Buchanen
Meanwhile, Forest have made 8 changes to the side that beat Fulham. I don’t think either side is taking this seriously.
With little build up to this match, it’s like someone has deleted the rivalry and it’s just a friendly……..
I do still think BTTS will land tonight but as to the full time score, I have no clues.
Good luck guys, stay safe and avoid the bad ones.
