SO that's Cheltenham over for another year and again we turn our wallets' attention to the football.

I hope everyone's come out of the Festival with cash in hand and if not some good memories at least.

This weekend's Premier League card is curtailed by the FA Cup quarter-finals and as usual I'd check line-ups before betting, especially on the Swansea v Spurs game. The Swans hopefully will go full strength while Spurs are without the injured Harry Kane.

I've posted separate Scottish and English previews where most of my tips are reasoned.

Beware of the weather – it's blowing a game in Glasgow and remember in midweek Ayr boss Ian McCall sad his side's game at Arbroath shouldn't have been played. The games at Gillingham and Berwick have been called off.

Last night there were plenty of goals but Hibs beat Greg after their early sending off and my Top Treble was downed by Excelsior losing after leading 1-0 at the break.

Well done to all winner and let's hope for better luck today.

    Morning gents,

I’ve backed Fylde and their talisman Danny Rowe for the last 18 months or so and it’s certainly paid dividends over time but a recent slump saw me ignore the North-West outfit…no surprise such decisions bite you on the arse and Fylde ran out 7-1 winners last week with Rowe netting a 19 minute hat-trick.

I reckon there’s plenty of scope for another re-visit as mein hosts welcome visitors from the frozen North East…

    FYLDE VS. HARTLEPOOL UNITED:

The monkey-hangers aren’t setting the world alight of late and have conceded
2-2-4-1-4-2 goals in their last consecutive 6 games – they let in a brace back in August and there’s a good chance that Fylde’s momentum and quality of forward play might tighten the noose further.

    Two selections:

    DANNY ROWE ATGS…8/11 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
    DANNY ROWE BRACE…3/1

    Best of luck.

And why not. Don’t think H’pool will be looking forward to this trip Hull. Done the brace with the other inform Accy master to score a brace, Billy Kee. Hopefully the weather stays kind or you can guarantee the likes of Fylde, Accy, Rochdale, Oldham will be the first to be called off. And the fans will be left there bare chested asking, why? And that’s just the women! Rowe and Kee to score a brace 25/1 (worth a quid)

    Sat morn goals tip
Going to oz first thing. 635 and 850 am the top 2 are in action and they should be good for goals. Sydney are toiling in the afc but remain head and shoulders above anything has to offer. The jets have a shaky record against the Phoenix and tasted defeat the last time around but still managed to cover the goal line, plus Phoenix are about 10times worse. I could get another 10 bodies from here to play them and they wouldn’t keep a clean sheet against us.

    Suggested bets

Sydney v Brisbane over 1 Asian fhg

    Morning guys

I’ve popped a bet builder on for the Phoenix Jets match.

    Jets O1.5tgs
    Champness ATGS
    BTTS
    Phoenix O5.5 TCs

Jets are favourite here and rightly so, even if they haven’t had it easy over the Phoenix in recent times. But I fancy them to score at least a couple. With Andrew Nabbout out of the team Joseph Champness gets a very rare start and I think the young Aussie will be anxious to make an impact. Phoenix pretty much always score at home even against such giants as Sydney FC, and they average over 7 team corners at home so was pleasantly surprised to see their line at only 5.5.

    Cheers

    Add Schalke who are in great form, away at poor Wolfsburg who have a lot of players missing and the odds really get a boost. I think Schalke will at least score, but I given current form + Wolfsburg injury woes I think they can manage two away goals here so adding for a smaller stake 6-fold;

Wolfsburg home record against Schalke is usually decent, but not so much recently and Schalke in the best form they’ve been in for a long time against a weakened Wolf team. Just fancy it.

Also correction to the odds – checked it and got 20/1 for the 6-Fold with Coral which is what I’ve placed.

Hi guys. Massive follower of the site, just a quick one regarding Hull who you have picked out to beat Birmingham. As a Birmingham fan may be judged as bias, however, i never back against us even when strongly fancy the opposition. Since Monk has come in there has been a massive turn in performances, players wanting to play for the manager and the shirt. 0-1 & 3-2 losses to Boro & Cardiff doesn’t show much result wise but meant to be a packed St. Andrews today 24k+ in a tight game down the bottom. Hull have picked up results of late but difficult to predict the Championship at times. DC respect your opinions but I would be cautious backing against Birmingham today. Often when I back my own team I am confident and faithful. For me i fancy a 2-0 or 2-1 Bham win, so i’ll be going with Birmingham to score 2+ & 5+ corners as we have racked up a high number of corners in most games this season. That pays 4/1 if you throw in 20+ Hull booking points to the above takes it to 8/1 with Skybet. All can be found under the RAB section. This way it keeps other options open even if Bham lose but score 2 like we did last week at Cardiff.

      Best of luck all.

    Morning Gents

Hibs downed the NAP late on but hopefully anyone watching the game cashed out as Saints piled on the pressure against the 10 men

    Sticking to the SPL today

    Rangers v Kilmarnock

A few months ago you wouldn’t have touched this game but both clubs have had a significant change in fortunes. Rangers are a different side and can feel aggreived not to have got something out of last weeks old firm game. Their strength is going forward and that is the same for Killie who have Erwin and Boyd banging the goals in. This should be a great game and wouldnt be surprised to see both sides on the scoresheet with Rangers running out winners.

Back over 2.5 goals 43/50 (Marathonbet) (NAP)

    ***************************

    Dundee United v Inverness

The hosts got a much needed morale boosting win at QOS. Midweek and they’ll be looking to get their season back on track after a disastrous run of results -‘their saving grace is their home form which on the whole is pretty solid – ICT have had a really poor season and I don’t see them troubling United too much. The United budget is probably higher than 3 or 4 of the SPL teams – they have good players and should kick on from Tueadays win

    Back Dundee United 9/10 (Marathonbet)

After seeing Sunshine Coast concede 13 this morning, I cannot believe Redlands didn’t grab a single second half goal against them last week. Still bitter. ;)

Really tricky looking card, I feel. Clearly some games I fancy for goals, especially in the lower leagues, but there’s not much value in a lot of them. On that note, I’ve picked out three sides I reckon could net today, all at prices I feel are bigger than they ought to be.

    Premier League

    15:00 Rangers vs Kilmarnock – Prediction 2.1

    Key Facts

    * Kilmarnock have scored in 19 of their last 21 away Pl matches
    * Kilmarnock have won 9, drawn 4, and lost only 1 of their last 14 PL matches
    * Kilmarnock have only lost 1 of their last 12 away league matches
    * Kilmarnock have lost only 1 of their last 5 matches against Rangers
    * Rangers have scored 2 goals or more in 6 of their last 8 home PL matches
    * Rangers have scored 2 goals or more in 10 of their last 11 matches (all comps)
    * Rangers have scored 25 goals in their last 7 matches (all comps)
    * Rangers have seen BTTS and over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of their last 6 league matches

    Final Verdict

Rangers welcome Kilmarnock to Ibrox on Saturday and a decent contest should be on the cards with the visitors in their best run of form domestically for many a year, losing just 1 of their last 13 SPFL contests under the astute guidance of former WBA boss, Stevie Clarke.

Killie did suffer a heart-breaking mid-week loss to Aberdeen on penalties in the Scottish Cup and it is certainly a big ask for the Ayrshire side to get a result here with Rangers having a free week but Killie are made of stern stuff under Clarke and they may well still give Rangers some problems with Ibrox side proving to be vulnerable at the back in recent performances.

Rangers were certainly unfortunate not to take a point or more in the Derby, but defensive errors and some serious profligacy in front of goal from Alfredo Morelos and others cost Rangers the chance to close the gap on their city rivals at the top of the table and while the bookies expect a home win at just 2/5 odds on, the visitors have shown in recent months that they are a serious force in this division under Clarke and cannot be taken lighly by any team in the division, even if their midweek loss to the Dons will have undoubtedly fatigued both bodies and minds.

The visitors are 2/1 not to lose and while I don’t expect that outcome with Kilmarnock fatigued from their midweek loss, Killie have only lost 4 of their last 21 away PL matches and having beaten Rangers 2.1 in their last meeting at Rugby Park, I expect another close contest here with the visitors really impressing in recent weeks. with wins over both halves of the old-firm, albeit, both at Rugby Park and they can score despite those tired legs with Rangers keeping only 1 clean sheet in their last 6 matches.

Killie hit-man Kris Boyd has scored 14 league goals this season with the former Gers striker scoring twice in Kilmarnock’s 2.1 victory at Rugby Park in December’s most recent meeting of these two sides and the bulky striker turned TV pundit can be backed @5/2 to score anytime or 8/1 to score first if selected. Boyd lasted 90 of the 120 minutes on Wednesday and may fancy his chances of troubling the vulnerable looking central defence of the home side.

Still, Rangers have been scoring goals for fun in 2018 and I do expect them to score 2 or more @8/15 having done so in 10 of their last 11 matches while Jamie Murphy could be the value selection to score for the hosts @11/5 with the former Motherwell man scoring 3 goals in his last 5 for the home side.

Ultimately, Rangers will expect to get back to winning ways and they should get the job done but it might not be as easy as some might expect so BTTS @19/20 is my preferred selection here although I do also expect at least a couple of goals for the hosts.

    Best Bets

Rangers to score 2 or more @8/15 – 3 stars
    BTTS @19/20 – 3 stars

Without tempting fate, a bet that has rarely let down this season is Liverpool corners.

There ought to be ample opportunity for the reds to press forward later on as Watford struggle to contain the onslaught:

    LIVERPOOOL OVER 7.5 CORNERS…EVENS

    LIVERPOOL RT9…13/8

Opening weeks of the mls have been entertaining as always, plenty of goals. 9/2 and 5/1 winners have brought a profitable start. Looks a tougher weekend on first viewing, I have went for the following:

    Atlanta O1.5
    Nycfc O1.5
    Toronto Or Draw

    21/10

Both Atlanta/Nyc played at home last week winning 3-0/2-1. Both with their fire power should bring in some goals tonight.
Toronto did not play last week so are currently bottom of the East with 0pts after a shock opening week defeat. The champions qualified for the champs league semi final midweek beating the north American force Tigres. Confidence will be high and they go to rivals Montreal desperate to kick start the domestic season. No champs league until start of April so this is an ideal opportunity to go and put a marker down to the rest of the league that they mean business this season. Good odds alone for a single at 7/5 but bring the safety net in for double chance at 2/5 to make up the treble

    • Avatar of Fraser M
      fraser51 7 years ago

      Philadelphia v Columbus

Columbus are capable of beating anyone in the league but they conceded a couple of slack goals last week, with Accam & Sappong up front for the Union then i can see both teams scoring

      Minnesota v Chicago

Minnesota struggled in their debut season but started to pick up form at home at the end of the season. In their two first games away from home they have scored twice in each game. Home tonight and will be looking to add to their win last week. Chicago played in an absolute thriller last week, 2-0 down coming back to go 3-2 up then to lose 4-3, 5 goals within the last 20mins of the match. They continued to prove their attack has plenty of goals even if losing Accam to Philadelphia but they also showed they leave alot of space in behind, not alot of legs in midfield to press. Again i reckon both to score.

      Btts + O2.5 double – 5/2

After a good couple of days I’m gonna risk a little profit in Switzerland.

    Wohlen v Xamax

Every chance Xamax should tonk Wohlen this evening, and the price on Xamax (and goals) reflects that. However, there’s value there if you fancy Wohlen to contribute. Despite being dead last, they average over a goal a game and have scored in each of their fixtures since returning from the winter break. This included scoring in a 1-1 draw at Servette last time out. Servette have conceded just 11 in 12 home games and have the best defensive record in the league, so it’s a notable result.

In two meetings this season, Xamax won both 2-1 and 4-2 respectively, while all four 2017 meetings saw BTTS and Overs land. Wohlen have scored in every home game this season, too. Meanwhile, Xamax are a little erratic on the road – they keep clean sheets, but then play out goalfests (including a 4-4 draw at a Winterhur side who had scored just 6 home goals in 10 games prior to the 4-4 10 days ago).

With these in mind, and the price on goals comparably short, I’m gonna take a punt on Wohlen grabbing at least one of the expected goals.

    Not going mad, though.

    Half Stakes:

    BTTS @ 5/6 (Bet365)

    BTTS and O1.5 Xamax Team Goals @ 6/5 (Bet365)

One other fancy from SA this evening and although El Salvador isn’t high on my list of favourite leagues for goals, one fixture offers up a consistent goal average and I’ve found a decent looking bet to match…enter the Dragon!

    DRAGÓN VS. SONSONATE (2030 KO):

Neither team are currently laden with goals and that reflects in a massive 6/4 for Over 2.5 match goals – I’m taking on something with a tad more insurance and it’s the (very recent) H2Hs that interest me here.

There has been a bare minimum of 2 goals in 100% of the last 6 matches between these two – all of which took place within the last 18 months.

I’ve not had a bet since last Sunday when my btts in the Forest/Derby game became a 0-0 bore draw. The first result of its kind in the last 32 times they’ve met.
Derby’s only fit defensive midfielder Tom Huddlestone got booked twice in 5 mins and will be absent tomorrow. Its very tough when you lose a player to a refs horrid mistake, but replays show there was no contact. Unfortunately, a team cannot contest a 1st or 2nd yellow card, just a red.

I said back in February that if people think we’ve a tough run of games in February, then March is going to be even worse. Derby have won just 2 games this year, both 3 nils ( Birmingham and Brentford ), we’re nowhere near as resolute at the back and although we’ve lost I think 3 times since January the first, we’re dropping way too many points with these damn draws. The big question is can we regroup and find that winning mentality again before we run out of games? I fear the answer to my own question is NO.

Already it seems, the excuses have started at Derby and although I suspect there’s some truth to it, I feel its Derby covering bases. Apparently just 10 players turned up for training on Friday.
With Huddlestone forced to sit this one out, there are doubts over Lawrence, Keogh, Ollson, Vydra and Nugent along with Ledley and Thorne definitely out.
We’ve missed Vydra this past 2 games, I don’t think he’s far off fitness but the others are doubts. Maybe its manager mind games, in reality I actually think the gaffer has these injury worries, but I can’t help but feel he’s also trying to throw Cardiff a curve-ball.
The last time we played them, we got a very good away point in a 0-0 which kickstarted our terrific run. It seems a distant memory now.
Momentum is everything in this league and judging by how QPR tore Villa a new one last week, anybody can beat anybody if they want to. Cardiff are gunning for auto-promotion and with Fulham dropping 2 points and a relatively easy run of games which should see them within touching distance of the premier league, Cardiff will want the points way more than Derby’s need for them. We have injury issues, we’ve problems in our defensive midfielder positions and having shed most of the players we need to play other formations, this season, we’ve rarely ventured away from the 4-2-3-1. We have no plan B.

I’m loathed to say this but Derby are ripe for the picking tomorrow. The manager is already highlighting the international break as his lifeline ( players returning in time for the last few games might just be the tonic we need ). BUT, he’s almost avoiding the question as to ” what about the game at home to Cardiff? “.
Home advantage for the rams has long been an anti-climax this season and with the 5th position down to 10th all so close together and that gap to 4th getting bigger, Derby have their work cut out if they want to stay in the playoff spots.
Unless results pick up and very soon, teams below us playing more consistently are going to swallow us up.

Its strange, that before a ball was kicked this season, we had probably the best team in the league on paper. Just a damn shame that the phrase ” becoming a bit Derby ” will soon be forever ingrained in the minds of every football fan in the land. fyi: we were at one point 2nd in the league.

Although I won’t be betting on the game, if I was, i’d be betting on a Cardiff win all day long.

I’ll try to post team news when I get it for the early kickoff.

    • Avatar of Owen Plackett

As always Nathan a detailed and realistic view from a passionate fan….when you see the likes of Johnny Russell scoring on his debut in the MLS you can only begin to wonder what might have been for the team when you were knocking on the door the last few years. It’s an absolute hell hole of a division to get out and Villa are starting to stutter; how Wolves and Cardiff must be chuckling. Strange thing is you’ve lost the same number of games as Cardiff; it’s the draws that have scuppered you, especially away, 9 is most in the league. It’s looking now as it’s 8 teams vying for the 4 playoff spots, right down to Millwall who are on a good run.
I’ve been following Cardiff’s results since Calum Paterson left (being a Jambo) and pleased for him not only that he seems to recovered fully from his cruciate injury sustained with us last season, but he has had a major impact; Warnock likes him and he has an infectious presence about him on and off the park; absolute bundles of energy, has built up his physique over the years and has always had the knack of scoring, regardless of where he played at Hearts. I have twice had success with him as Anytime goal scorer earlier this season when he was 5/1 and 4/1, now after 8 goals this season he is 7/2 tomorrow.
This along with BTTS would be my picks, as Cardiff are liable to concede especially away, and it’s time Derby need to get momentum and breathing space to consolidate a playoff berth.

Decent enough card in SA and a few that appeal – settled on this one for an early effort…

MIRASSOL VS. RB BRASIL (1900 KO):

No time for a proper write-up but it’s a big price for both to net given the relative parity between the two, recent form and the fact that 2 of the last 3 H2Hs saw just that.

    BTTS…11/10

    One selection worth a look:

Looking for some value bets in Poland
Like look of Jagielonia at home to Arka, Jagielonia score 12 goals in last 4 home games (5,1,4,2)
Arka away record is not good, conceded in 3 out of 4 away (1,3,2)
Recommended bet: Jagielonia to score over 1.5 TG at 1.72
    WON
    Jagielonia WON 3:2
