Ligue 1 top scorer

After 24 rounds of action in Ligue 1, there was some of movement over the weekend in race to finish as the top goalscorer in France this season.

With Kylian Mbappe no longer around to hoover up the prize on an annual basis, let's take a look at who the current frontrunners are to finish as the leading marksman in the French top-flight this term.

Best Ligue 1 top scorer odds

Ousmane Dembele – 2/5

I’ve been banging the Ousmane Dembele drum for a number of weeks in this column but the previously available 12/1 is now long gone. The French forward currently leads the way with 18 goals for the season and is now as short as just 2/5 for top goalscorer honours.

Dembele has now racked up 13 goals across his last eight appearances in Ligue 1, putting PSG in pole position to retain their title.

After tightening his hold on top spot with a goal against Lille last time out, Dembele is in the driving seat for the award.

Mason Greenwood – 7/2

Mason Greenwood is the 7/2 second favourite to end the season as the top goalscorer in Ligue 1. The former Manchester United man moved onto 15 league goals for the season after scoring against Nantes on Sunday night.

However, the 23-year-old still trails the aforementioned Dembele by three goals in the top goalscorer race, making him an unattractive 7/2 quote.

Jonathan David – 8/1

Jonathan David has drifted out to 8/1 as the third favourite to take the top goalscorer prize this season. That is despite the fact that the Lille ace scored against PSG on Saturday night. However, it’s worth noting that was just David’s second goal across his last eight appearances in Ligue 1.

Thus, the Canadian star is still five goals off the top of the charts. While David does have course and distance form in this market, he will have to quickly rediscover his shooting boosts if he is going to make a late rally for the prize.

Bradley Barcola 12/1

Bradley Barcola ended his goal drought by notching against Lille last time out. The PSG forward had failed to score in five successive Ligue 1 matches before striking on Saturday night.

In fact, Barcola has scored just twice across his last 13 league outings. As such, the French international's odds for the top scorer award have drifted out to 12/1. Given his lack of goals of late, there would appear to be better value options elsewhere.

Our Ligue 1 top scorer prediction

Given the current lay of the land in the Ligue 1 goalscoring charts, Ousmane Dembele remains the obvious option to take the award, however the 2/5 quote holds little appeal. The 27-year-old has been in the form of his life in recent months and he is going to take some stopping for the top scorer award. Now at the top of the goalscoring charts with 18 goals and a three-goal buffer, it’s hard to make a case for any of the other contenders to overtake the red-hot Frenchman.
