Even at this early stage of the season, the race to finish as the top goalscorer in Ligue 1 is already shaping up to be a fiercely competitive one.
With Kylian Mbappe no longer around to hoover up the prize on an annual basis, let's take a look at who the current front runners are to finish as the leading marksman in the French top-flight this term.
Best Ligue 1 top scorer odds
Mason Greenwood – 7/2
Mason Greenwood has hit the ground running in Ligue 1 following his move to Marseille over the summer. The former Manchester United man made the net bulge twice on his debut and he has since netted a further three goals across his subsequent three appearances. Consequently, Greenwood heads the Ligue 1 top goalscorer odds at 7/2. Given that PSG no longer have a superstar forward spearheading their attack, coupled with the fact that Marseille will have a kind schedule this season as they are not in Europe, Greenwood warrants favouritism in the top goalscorer market.
- Betting tip: Over 2.5 goals and Greenwood to Score Anytime Bet Builder 11/5
Over 2.5 goals and Greenwood to score anytime has landed in three of Marseille’s four Ligue 1 games this season and the same selection looks worth siding with when Roberto de Zerbi’s side lock horns with Lyon on Sunday night.
Jonathan David – 4/1
Despite scoring just once across his four Ligue 1 outings this season, Jonathan David is the 4/1 second favourite in the top goalscorer market. What makes that price all the more surprising is the fact that the Lille forward has failed to find the back of the net in each of his last three matches. That being said, the season is still in its infancy, not to mention David did finish joint second top goal scorer last term behind Kylian Mbappe. While the Canadian hitman is expected to be in the top goalscorer conversation again this season, there would appear to be better value options elsewhere.
- Betting tip: Jonathan David 1+ Shot on Target and Both Teams to Score Bet Builder 13/10
Lille play host to a Strasbourg side on Saturday that have seen BTTS land in each of their four Ligue 1 matches this season. Bundle that up with at least one David shot on target in what should be an open game at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
Randal Muani – 8/1
Randal Muani is currently an 8/1 shot to land top goalscorer honours in Ligue 1 this season. The PSG forward has fired in two goals across his opening four Ligue 1 games of the season. Muani also made the net bulge during France’s recent 2-0 win over Belgium in the Nations League. With PSG expected to cruise to another French top-flight title, Muani should give punters a good run for their money at an attractive price.
- Betting tip: PSG to Win & Randal Muani to Score Anytime – 17/10
PSG are short priced favourites in their next Ligue 1 game with Reims but backing them to win alongside a Muani goal will bolster the odds up to 17/10. This bet builder would have paid out in each of the Parisians’ previous two Ligue 1 away games this season.
Alexandre Lacazette – 10/1
Alexandre Lacazette has finished second and joint-second top goalscorer in Ligue 1 in each of the last two seasons, making him an appealing prospect to go one better this time around at 10/1. The Lyon striker has struck once in three appearances this season, but it's worth noting that 16 of his Ligue 1 goals last season were netted from mid-October onwards.
However, with Lyon back on the European stage this season, the veteran forward's game time may have to be managed more carefully by Lyon boss Pierre Sage this term, so much so that Lacazette could be worth opposing at the prices.
- Betting tip: Alexandre Laczette and Mason Greenwood to Score Anytime – 7/1
Alexandre Lacazette and Mason Greenwood are two of the most lethal attacking players in Ligue 1, so backing them both to score when Lyon meets Marseille looks worthy of interest at a bold price.
Our Ligue 1 top scorer prediction
Mason Greenwood is a worthy favourite in the Ligue 1 top goalscorer odds at present but PSG’s Randal Muani makes more appeal at a much bigger price. PSG have made a strong start to the season and Muani should make plenty of hay against inferior opposition throughout the campaign, making the Frenchman the the value option at 8/1.
