Following the final round of Ligue 1 action at the weekend, there was some noteworthy movement in the race to finish as the top goalscorer in France this season.
Let's take a look at the final top goalscorer standings from the French top-flight this term.
Ligue 1 top scorers
Ousmane Dembele
Ousmane Dembele’s blistering run of form from December through to March saw him end the season with an impressive return of 21 Ligue 1 goals. The PSG ace also chipped in with six assists for good measure, not to mention he has also fired in 12 goals in domestic cup and European duty this term.
With Dembele not expected to depart the French capital this summer, he will almost certainly start next season as the bookmakers' favourite in this particular market.
Mason Greenwood
A couple of goals from Mason Greenwood on the final day of the campaign saw him end the season on 21 Ligue 1 goals. While that goal haul saw Greenwood finish level with the aforementioned Dembele, he missed out on the Golden Boot award on a tiebreaker due to having fewer assists as well as scoring more penalties.
Whether or not Greenwood can go one better next season remains to be seen, as his form this term has seen him linked with a move back to the Premier League this summer.
Jonathan David
As has been the case for a number of seasons now, Jonathan David was among the leading goalscorers in Ligue 1 this season. The Lille ace finished the campaign with 16 strikes to his name, the last of which came against Marseille on matchday 32.
With David set to be in huge demand as a free agent this summer, he is expected to be plying his trade outside of France next term, with Napoli the current favourites to secure his signature.
Bradley Barcola
Bradley Barcola started the season in brilliant form but he was unable to maintain those standards during the second half of the campaign, finishing up with 14 strikes. Barcola scored just four times across his final 20 Ligue 1 outings of the season. As such, the French international is not expected to be among the leading contenders for the award next season.
Our Ligue 1 top scorer prediction
While the bookmakers have not yet priced up the odds for next season's top goalscorer, it would come as a real surprise if this year's winner Ousmane Dembele is not at the top of the list. The PSG attacker surged his way to the award by netting 16 times across his final 16 Ligue 1 appearances of the campaign, making him the likely favourite for next season’s prize.
