Ligue 1 top scorer

After 16 rounds of Ligue 1 action, not much has changed in the race to finish as the top goalscorer in France.

With Kylian Mbappe no longer around to hoover up the prize on an annual basis, let's take a look at who the current frontrunners are to finish as the leading marksman in the French top-flight this term.

Best Ligue 1 top scorer odds

Jonathan David – 7/4

Despite blanking against Nantes last time out, Jonathan David remains the 7/4 favourite to finish as the top goalscorer in Ligue 1 this season. The Lille forward currently leads the way with 11 goals. He has registered four goals across his last four Ligue 1 matches and warrants favouritism in this particular market.

The Canadian ace has also notched five times across Lille’s last four Champions League games, the most recent of which was against Juventus on matchday four. Given that the Lille talisman has his nose in front in the race to be top goalscorer, he could take some stopping.

Mason Greenwood – 2/1

While he failed to fire against Le Havre on Sunday night, Mason Greenwood rediscovered his shooting boots for Marseille ahead of the winter break. After failing to score in four successive matches, Greenwood ended his mini goal drought by making the net bulge against Montpellier on matchday eight. The former Manchester United man has since scored against Nantes, Auxerre, Monaco and St Etienne, meaning he now has 10 Ligue 1 strikes to his name this term.

Greenwood is currently the second favourite at 2/1 to finish as the division’s top scorer.

Bradley Barcola 3/1

Bradley Barcola was leapfrogged by the aforementioned Jonathan David at the top of the Ligue 1 goalscoring charts before the winter break. The PSG ace remains on 10 strikes but he is now without a goal in each of his last five Ligue 1 outings.

With PSG’ likely to prioritise salvaging their Champions League campaign in January, there is plenty of scope for Barcola's scoring drought to continue.

Ousmane Dembele – 12/1

Ousmane Dembele’s form in recent weeks has led to him gatecrashing the Ligue 1 top goalscorer conversation. The flying French forward has fired in three goals across his last two league matches, including a brace against Monaco. He has since netted the only goal of the game against Monaco in the Trophee des Champions in Doha on Sunday.

As such, the PSG ace currently sits on eight league goals for the season. Priced up at 12/1, now could be the time to pull the trigger on the in-form Frenchman for top goalscorer honours.

Our Ligue 1 top scorer prediction

Given the current lay of the land in the Ligue 1 goalscoring charts, Ousmane Dembele is the standout selection at  12/1. The 27-year-old hit a purple patch in front of goal ahead on the Ligue 1 winter break and there is plenty of scope for him to pick up from where he left off. Trailing Jonathan David by just three goals, Dembele represents terrific value at the odds on offer.
