As the last fully professional football league in the UK, League Two is often unpredictable and always exciting, with many teams competing for promotion to the higher rank each season.
Given that four teams get promoted to League One, we can see why the bookies have many candidates to go up and we will check out some of them in more detail as we look at the current League Two promotion odds, with more than a month left before the start of the 2025-26 season.
Latest League Two promotion odds
MK Dons 10/11 Chesterfield 7/4 Gillingham 11/4 Notts County 11/4 Salford 2/1 Bristol Rovers 2/1 Walsall 10/3 Colchester 3/1 Swindon 7/2 Cambridge 4/1
Milton Keynes Dons
The biggest surprise looking at the odds for promotion was seeing MK Dons as the main favourites, at just 10/11 odds. After all, this is a team that finished 19th last season, so it's obviously a huge jump that they'll have to take from there to promotion.
That being said, MK Dons have the biggest budget in the league and they've also been among the main favourites last season as well, which obviously didn't end well for them.
This season, they've already signed a few players and, most importantly, they hired Paul Warne as their new head coach. Warne has experience in getting teams promoted since he's done it before and he has managed in the Championship during his career, so his appointment could be the difference for MK Dons this time around.
Walsall
Last season Walsall came so close to promotion, only for things to fall apart in the end. First, they finished the regular season in fourth place in the standings, just one point behind Bradford, who got the final direct promotion.
After that, Walsall reached the final of the playoffs, but they lost to AFC Wimbledon at Wembley 1-0 after conceding in the stoppage time of the first half.
All in all, Walsall had a good season that wasn't crowned with promotion as they hoped, but they'll have another chance to get there this season and with 10/3, betting on them to get promoted sounds like a good value bet.
Cambridge
It's interesting to see that none of the relegated teams are among the main favourites to get back to League One right away, with Bristol City and Cambridge ahead of the other two relegated teams, according to the latest odds.
Cambridge finished last season in 23rd place in League One, but their form did improve from February when they brought back Neil Harris as their head coach. With Harris at the helm, Cambridge are an interesting choice for promotion this season at 4/1 odds.
Our verdict on the EFL League Two promotion
With so many teams looking to get promoted this season, we can expect the odds to change often, even before the season starts.
We can see MK Dons doing much better than last season and meeting the expectations this time around with a promotion to League One, but our choice would be Walsall.
Walsall were inches away from promotion last season and that experience might help push them over the edge this time around. We also like the odds since they're not one of the top favourites and represent a good value pick when it comes to League Two promotion.
