PROBABLY the earliest antepost I’m likely to bet here. But looking at a few of the team changes already there is real value on a team to win their division in the NFL.
The division in question is the AFC West. Denver, Kansas, LA (Chargers) and Oakland.
Kansas have traded away their veteran QB to Washington in Alex Smith and will give the reigns to Pat Mahomes. The Chiefs thought highly of Mahomes to draft him as high as they did last year but your first starting season in the NFL is going to be a tough one.
Denver still haven’t figured out their QB situation since Manning left and they’ll be looking to get a franchise QB with their fifth pick. Again with even less NFL experience than Mahomes has for Kanas and getting rid of Talib in the secondary, Denver in 2018 could be one of the worst teams in the league in 2018.
I love what Okalnd have done this off season. Not so much the roster moves but the head coach they’ve brought in. Jon Gruden is a football guru who most recently is noted for his excellent commentary but the pundit also has a SB ring and will be looking to let players leave such as Marshawn Lynch. They will probably be the closest team to the winners but I’m saving the best for last.
The LA Chargers are the team I believe will top this division. Philip Rivers is one of the best QB’s without a ring in the NFL and his years are running out.
This team is very much built to win now with stars all over the field. Gordon in the backfield, Hunter at tight end, one elite receiver in Keenan Allen, as well as Mike Williams who has yet to show his Clemson talent but dealt with nagging injuries last season.
Can easily be one of the dominant receivers in years to come. On the defensive side you have one of the best young defensive ends in Joey Bosa, with Melvin Ingram partnering him on the D-line, combining for 23 sacks last season. With Casey Hayward in the secondary they are only a couple of pieces away form a challenging team and they hold value at 2-1.
- LA Chargers AFC West Winners (2-1, Sky Bet) – 5pts
Sky Bet are the only firm offering prices just now so I’ll take this. Also like the Rams to win the NFC West but that depends what Seattle do, as losing Sherman will be difficult to replace.
McVay did wonders considering the mess Jeff Fischer left behind and like their LA neighbours are only a few pieces away from being contenders. It's 7-4 at Sky Bet.
