We very nearly walked away with two winners on Wednesday, and if you paired them together, it would have been a very juicy double.
Aberama Gold kept close to the leader, and the pair set very quick fractions. When I saw the speed they were going, I had a feeling it was going to suit the winner, and it did. The winner pipped us just before the line, making it an agonising defeat.
However, we ended the day with Anchiano delivering the goods. I can't believe the drift on this horse. If you got on in the morning when B.O.G was available, you'd have had a 25/1 winner. Darragh Keenan got the lead; the horse was keen, but not overly. He kept rolling and fended off the challengers.
Kaleido 11/4 (1pt) – Hamilton 4.00
Inspired and Jannas Journey were first and second at Hamilton last time around. Based on the difference in weights, I can't see how Inspired reverses that form. I think this race is tougher for that pair of horses, and I think you can give a chance to every horse in the race.
Kaleido was the horse I landed on. I really like horses who get better for every start, which is an obvious thing to say. However, he's not a spring chicken, and he did leave the Gosden stable last year. Since moving to David O'Meara's yard, he has done well without getting a win on the board.
If you can ignore the Ayr run in May, his runs have produced progressive RPRs. He recorded ratings of 77, 69, 80, 85 and 87. His handicap mark went up 1lb for his good effort last time out, but he is clearly going the right way. With a couple of likely front runners in this race, it could set it up nicely for Kaleido, who will likely be delivered late.
Ice Cube 13/8 (1pt) – Epsom 8.40
In a very weak race, Ice Cube can capitalise and get his first win for Richard Spencer.
There's not a great deal of form to go on, but Richard Spencer has opted for Oisin Murphy. Oisin has gotten his act together in the last week or so, and I think that's due to young Billy Loughnane applying the pressure in the jockey's championship. He recently rode a five-timer at Windsor and is full of confidence.
My fancy is dropping down to a class 6 after running in back-to-back class 4 races. He should find this a hell of a lot easier than the opposition he has been up against in recent times.
Oisin has a 20% strike rate when riding for Richard, so it points towards a big run.
