IT was a fruitful day of racing last Saturday with Beau Bay getting the job done at a cracking SP of 20-1.
I also had Allmankind winning at a more conservative 5-2 but we'll take all the winners we can get.
SKY PIRATE is in danger of becoming a cliff horse for me but I’m persevering after he got us a place last time at decent odds. He really should have won that race had he not clattered the second last and nearly dispatched Jonathan Burke. Tom Scudmore takes the ride now which is no bad thing and the only unknown is the trip. He drops down to 2 miles for the first time and as long as the quicker pace doesn’t impact his jumping (it could also be the making of him) then I’m confident he can take advantage of some very lenient handicapping, having been dropped 4lb for his last run.
This looks like a good renewal of the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup with plenty in with a chance. The one that I like at a big price is CHAMPAGNE MYSTERY. The Henderson yard are going well and this one still has plenty of potential despite being pulled up last time at the festival. He has had a wind op since which could be a nice positive and the handicapper has dropped him a couple of pounds which is helpful too.
I’m keen on JERSEY BEAN here who is improving rapidly and can defy another hike in the weights in a race full of older more exposed staying chasers. Jersey wouldn't want too much rain but other than that everything else seems to be in his favour.
