IT'S Ayr Gold Cup day today and it's a real blow for the Scottish track that racing has to continue behind closed doors.
I'm a bit behind schedule today with my tips but have a listen to the Gambla podcast where we chat about the two big races from Ayr today and I select three that I think are nice value at big prices along with a strong fancy for a short priced favourite:
I can't see past ADDEYBB who should be far too good for the rest here, including my old pal Lord Glitters.
2.30pm Ayr (Silver Cup)
My view is that the favourite King's Lynn is too short despite obvious chances as a progressive three year old. I have plumped for ADMIRALITY who is super consistent, will stay the strong 6 furlongs no problem and is able to run today off a 4lb lower mark than when he was a decent 6th in 2019. Got the extra places on offer – plenty of firms are going for 6 places.
3.40pm Ayr (Gold Cup)
I have gone for two in the big one in the shape of STAXTON and ANOTHER BATT. Since I tipped Stanton on the podcast he has been backed into best price 10/1 but that still rates as a good bet to me. He is in cracking form but still has a few pounds up his sleeve compared to his best performances in the past and conditions are ideal. ANOTHER BATT is very nicely handicapped on a rating of 96 having won off 100 and 104 in the past and again he will see out the 6 furlongs nicely and looks a very big price. Several firms offer 7 places in this race so as always shop around and take advantage.
