Racing tips: Ain’t No Sunshine forecast at Kelso

The runs of yesterday's two selections were far from satisfactory, with both definitely under performing. Arian was extremely poor, and clearly wasn't at the races. Global Agreement smashed through the first hurdle and nearly unseated the jockey, and was never in the race after that. He stayed on well, but his jumping lacked throughout the race, as well as the winner getting an easy time of things on the front end, and was heavily backed.

Kelso 2:00

A five runner race, but potentially a burn up for the lead, which is what I'm hoping STAINSBY GIRL doesn't get involved in. This horse is seen to good effect when getting a lead, but with Mcgowan's Pass & Diocletian both handy types, I'm hoping Craig Nichol lets them get on with things between them and he has Stainsby Girl sat just behind them.

This mare doesn't need to be ridden on the front end, but she made good use of it last time over this C&D. She beat Word Has It and Elvis Mail that day, and it's hard to see the former getting close, with arguably the latter being the main danger to her. There is a slight swing in the weights, but I think the selection won easier than the final margin shows. She is a very determined mare, who wears her heart on her sleeve and gives her all, hence why the numbers next to her form are consistent and she has either won or been placed in 11 of her 15 runs over rules. She is clearly in a rich vein of form and when a mare is worth following again, whilst she is racing how she is.

Kelso 4:10

You won't get a great price for AIN'T NO SUNSHINE, but there are reasons to suggest this could be an above average bumper/jumps horse.

His pedigree stands out as a potential quality animal. He is a full brother to the very smart Airlie Beach, who was a classy mare for the Willie Mullins yard, both on the flat and over hurdles. She was a Grade 1 winner, as well as being 100 rated on the flat, and she managed to win her sole start in a bumper. Looking further through the pedigree, Ain't No Sunshine's siblings all managed to win at least one bumper race, with a couple of them being quite smart (4 other siblings), so there is plenty of pace in his family.

Keith Dalgleish has been a good trainer over both codes since he started training, but for some reason he hasn't had as many jumps runners this season. His records in bumpers in the last five years reads 18 wins from 90 runners (2o% SR). He has had 0 runners in bumpers this year, but this horse is his first runner, and to seal the deal, he partners him up with Brian Hughes. Brian is obviously in top form, like he has been all year for numerous years, but his strike rate in bumpers this season is ridiculous: 18 wins from 57 rides, 32% SR.
