Yesterday's winner was not worth getting excited for as the odds were short, but it's better than having a loser. Unfortunately, for Cairnzy his selection Acklam Express continues to be frustrating as he has the form to win races like yesterday, but for some reason, he never really goes ahead with it, but will somehow run a cracker in a Group 1, it is quite confusing.

Like every day of racing this week, the racing today isn't the best, but I think I've found a couple of winners.

Redcar 5:38

Class 6 races aren't really races I like to get involved in as it is the bottom of the barrel of racing, but when a horse is showing progressive signs and is still a young horse I think you can take advantage of the fact they are running in low-tier races. MISS CANDY is my fancy for this race, and though this race is competitive like most races are in this bracket of racing, I think this filly could be better than her mark of 65.

Jane Chapple-Hyam's 3yo filly is on for the hat-trick after winning two races at Yarmouth over 7f and a mile. She has won by 0.75L on both occasions, but was more impressive last time around when winning in a Class 5, meaning this is actually a drop-down in class for her. The winning margins aren't anything to be excited about, but I get the feeling this horse only does what is required, so is never going to win by extreme margins. If that is the case then she could be ahead of the handicapper for quite a while as she'll never be put up too much for small victories.

The drop back in trip shouldn't be an issue and she seems to go well on good ground, so the dry weather forecast at Redcar is a definite positive. Paddy Bradley gets on well with Miss Candy, winning 2/2 and he stays on her, taking off a handy 3lbs. This track is a rare venue for the Suffolk trainer, so that should of be of note with only one runner at the track in the previous five years.

Perth 2:45

I am a big fan of when Gordon Elliott sends horses over to the UK, but especially during the summer/early jumps season as he has a very good strike rate. He sends over a handful of runners for Wednesday but the one I like out of all of them is QUANTUM REALM who should appreciate this step up in trip, having previously run well over 4f shorter and staying on strongly.

This race is actually a really good race for a midweek jumps race, especially when the season hasn't actually kicked off yet, with horses like Ballyandy (previous Cheltenham Festival Bumper winner) and Jerrysback making an appearance, who has been in really good form for a 10yo, winning a Class 1 race at Uttoxeter in June. You also have the likes of progressive young chasers like Bavington Bob who should have his presence felt. However, I do really like the chances of Gordon's horse, who looked tailor-made for this new trip (had tried 2m 7f previously where he had won). He has made a nice transition to fences and has done well over the summer months, and is still a 6yo so still has plenty of improvement to come.

Gordon has won this race 3x in the last 10 years so it's a race he does tend to target. He has another horse in this race, but the jockey booking of Sean Bowen on Quantum Realm would suggest this is his strongest chance.
