Queen's Guard was a late NR at Ayr, due to the weather I'd imagine. That left us with Aussie Girl as the only runner of the day and she ran better than I thought she would during the race as she was under the pump a long way from home, she battled hard and did finish fourth which meant she was placed with Bet365 as they were offering an extra place.
Ayr 1:50 – Royal Rhyme 6/4 (1pt Bet365)
6/4 or 13/8 isn't a great price about Royal Rhyme but I can see why he is the price he is based on his emphatic win in a Goodwood Class 2 race last time out. He might be short, but I think he has a superb chance of landing a Class 1 race today.
Soft ground is clearly essential to Royal Rhyme as when he runs on it he tends to win or run well, when it's too quick for him he simply has no chance. Ayr is currently good to soft, soft in places and I think though he would like it be to slightly softer, I think it's enough for him to show his class in this. The way he travels on slow ground is impressive, it's almost as if he is running on good to firm ground with the way he handles it. This is a step up in grade for him, but he's clearly a very progressive horse and with the form of the yard I don't think you can doubt that he'll handle this class jump.
Newbury 1:30 – Nymphadora 7/2 (1pt Bet365)
If Sense Of Duty is on point after her 455 day layoff and she handles the ground I think she'll be tough to beat, but based on those questions I think Nymphadora is a great option against her.
Soft ground is what this filly wants and needs, she is much better with juice in the ground than on faster ground as her record over her career would suggest, as well as this season. She won at Chester on soft ground, then went to York and won on good to soft. I put her up at big odds in the Group 2 sprint at Glorious Goodwood a month ago and she was outclassed, but she didn't run terribly, finishing middle of the pack and 4.5L off the winner. This is a much calmer race and she will arrive night and ready for it from the month layoff between her last race.
Raasel is in good form, so he is very respected, but he has been kept very busy recently and that would be a concern running on a testing surface at Newbury.

My main Fancy for the Ayr Gold Cup was withdrawn last night so that leaves me with

As you all probably know at this stage when looking at a race like this I get heavily involved in trends to narrow it down.
There are plenty of sites that offer that service but I came across some yesterday that I thought were a bit unusual and it also narrowed it right down for me based on my shortlist.
Horses that ran over 5f on debut are 0-128.
Bielsa ran 5f 216yds which is basically 6f so doesn’t count, but that stat alone narrowed it right down for me
Another is fillies are 0-22 in the last 20yrs.
Oasis Dream has yet to Sire a winner in 16 attempts which rules out Desert Cop and arguably Orazio who is out of an Oasis Dream mare.
That’s just some stats worth taking into account if you are backing in this race. Hugely competitive so thread carefully.

I had some thoughts on the Silver Cup but I have woke up to see WOBWOBWOB backed as if unbeatable. I follow the yard, but as soon as I see it fav, I try to take on but now 8s into 7/2, that is a significant move. Hollie is 0-9 for trainer so I was hoping it was a bookie horse, but there is a bit to like, running well, wont mind juice and a 7f winner which helped Ascot Adventure yday. That being said I won’t be touching it with Deb’s money (who if it wins will have got on at 12s).
If you want two lively each way plays in this race, JUMP THE GUN 11s (5th last year 15lbs lower) and BERNARDO O’REILLY 11s (2lbs below 3rd in this last year) fit the bill, with that said I won’t back either. Riskier alternatives include the Fahey pair MK 14s and AD 16s. CAIRN GORN’s win in July was his first since 2020, he looks a spare ride for Crowley but at 14s isn’t out of it. At bigger prices pete mentioned ILLUSIONIST for a yard I like, I’ll chance at 20s. SNAZZY JAZZY may finish last but at 33s will carry a small wager as will DREAM FOR GOLD 33s (maybe). In regards to GULLIVER, likeable but failed here plenty of times, getting on but is in form with a win lto and still 11lbs below last years peak rating, connections won the Bronze cup yday and I suspect there are a lot of e/w double tickets floating about.
