I expected Thursday's racing to be a day of more than one winner with at least two coming in at the minimum, but it didn't happen and Twig was the sole winner of the day.
Twig wasn't great in his win, dawdled when he hit the front and didn't win with much authority but got the job done.
For the other two, Northern Bound ran well considering he clattered the fifth fence from home, but he had enough time to get back into it and he wasn't good enough on the day. Tom O'Rougley was just very below par, stayed on alright before being inconvenienced but wasn't troubling any of the leaders.

It could be a bit daft going for PRESS YOUR LUCK in this three-runner contest but I think he is probably the one they have to beat even though he has no experience over fences over rules.
Flash Collonges didn't adapt to the larger obstacles last year after being quite smart over hurdles so I think you're best to take him on with Press Your Luck who is much shorter than I was hoping for at around EVS, but I guess that goes to show the level of confidence breeding out of the Chris Gordon yard about his chance in this race.
Press Your Luck was a good hurdler last year racking up a couple of wins and getting up to as high as 138 rated. He is a previous Irish PTP winner so does have experience jumping over larger obstacles and I think he'll enjoy the ground at Chepstow which is on the faster side of things. This is a new trip, but he did win over 3m in that PTP so that does suggest he stays. Fitness will have to be taken on trust but with Chris Gordon in terrific form of late (5-15 33% SR last 14 days) you'd like to think he knows what he is doing and he could've found himself an easier assignment on paper if he wanted, so I get the impression they really like this horse and he has been training well at home.

This is a cracking race and I find that a lot of the Veterans' races are very good to watch and are competitive, which normally means you can get some decent odds as well as watching some of the older horses run that you have had a connection with over the years.
If CLOTH CAP is fit and ready he should be hard to stop in this contest even though it is a competitive renewal. He is the class horse in the race on form he showed two years ago. With the fast ground expected to be in his favour, I think he is worth a chance on seasonal reappearance that he is back to his old self and he will find this company an easier assignment than what he has been against in recent years.
I understand last year was a terrible year for Cloth Cap, with him showing very little in the formbook, but from what Jonjo Sr has said, he has been training well at home and they believe that the Veterans' series will allow him to return to good form and grab some wins.

A horse I have to follow in this race is STATE OCCASION. I put her up when she went over the Irish Sea to race in a Listed race at Dundalk. It was evident that she didn't get the best of rides/trip that day, so is worth another shot as I definitely believe she is a Class 1 animal and at the current odds, she is an EW bet at the very least.
At Dundalk, she was drawn wide, which was a concern to me as it can be difficult to get a handy position when drawn on the wings on the AW tracks. She broke slowly which didn't help but Rossa decided to run her four wide for virtually all of the race, and when they turned for home she didn't have the turn of foot required, probably because she ran much further than any horse in the race due to going round the track very wide.
Before that, she was progressing at a very quick rate and I rate the win at York very highly. The manner in which she won was in the style of a Class 1 horse, and that's why I fancied her so strongly last time out, as did many punters as she was backed off the boards into 10/11F.
This is a very good race for the grade but I still think there's some untapped potential with this mare, I think she is only starting to hit her prime now so she can bridge the gap into pattern company and land some important winning black-type.
Well done with the 40-1 shot yesterday Azz.

This horse will take all the beating. Was behind Crispy Cat (2nd Fav) in a Group race at Doncaster however the selection took a couple of bumps early in the race and was also racing on soft ground which is not his optimum conditions. He is the highest rated horse in the race, he races off good ground today, is the jockey’s only ride and has been doing excellent work at home. I’m expecting a win and will be disappointed if this is not the case.
Well done with the first Rizzel
