THEFLYINGPORTRAIT (3.50) seems the logical choice to land the Perth Silver Cup under Brian Hughes. Jennie Candlish fits a visor on the top weight, a previous dual course and distance winner, and his bold front-running style should have a few of these rivals in trouble before the home bend.
AMALFI DOUG (2.40) has been given a new lease of life by Keith Dalgleish and can make it a quick hat-trick of Perth victories. The nine-year-old lost his way over fences but Dalgleish has restored his confidence with two wins over hurdles. He now sends his charge back over fences in the novices’ handicap chase and Amalfi Doug may have too much speed for favourite Top Of The Charts, representing hot Irish trainer Gavin Cromwell.
GREEN ZONE (3.15) is a Scone regular and will find this assignment a bit easier after twice finishing behind Amalfi Doug recently. He won here in May under Danny McMenamin and the talented conditional rider is back on top. Peter Bowen’s General Allenby may pose the biggest threat.
CAKE DE L’ISLE (5.00) can surprise a couple of more fancied rivals in the 2m 4f handicap chase. Formerly with Jonjo O’Neill, Cake De L’Isle has been well placed by Laura Morgan, scoring at Kelso in May when making all the running, and more recently finishing fourth to Gone Platinum at Market Rasen. The gelding helped force that pace that day but a blunder three out put him out of contention.
Play The Ace drops in grade on the back of an excellent third to Lofgren and Beau Sancy at Cartmel, while Boy’s On Tour, runner-up to Creadan Grae here ten days ago, is capable of taking a hand for Lucinda Russell.
