DURSTAN (2.40) is strongly fancied to land the William Hill-sponsored 1m 4f handicap at York.
David Simcock trains the progressive three-year-old for Highclere Thoroughbreds and Durstan is on a hat-trick following successes at Chester (soft) and Doncaster (good to firm). He stayed the St Leger trip well on Town Moor and 3lb apprentice Sean Davis has impressed this season. Top weight Anythingtoday is raised 7lb for his wide-margin Newcastle success and any significant rain would help.
SECRET ADVISOR (3.00) will appreciate the return to quick ground in the inaugural running of the bet365 Trophy at Newmarket. The Godolphin horse is at home in big fields, having scooped the Melrose Handicap from 18 rivals at York a couple of seasons ago and Secret Advisor shaped well enough on his comeback at Royal Ascot to merit an interest. Ben Vrackie bids to go one better than at Royal Ascot and is a powerful market leader.
At Ascot, DUCKETT'S GROVE (3.25) is interesting on his handicap debut. Ed Walker's colt, the sole three-year-old in the line-up, ran fifth to very smart private Secretary and Spanish Mission in a 1m 3f Listed event at Goodwood, weakening over a furlong out. This shorter trip should be ideal and Duckett's Grove is a bit of value against favourite American Graffiti.
