Due to commitments on Saturday afternoon I can't really do my yesterday recap on how the selections ran. Hopefully you had a profitable day and managed to pick out the winner for the Grand National.
Curragh 3:05
The more I look at this race, the more I get confident about the chances of GEORGEVILLE. I feel like we're getting some good odds for him (at the time of writing around 5/1), and he could be tough to beat if the ground keeps drying out at the Curragh.
I was a sucker for High Definition last year. He came into his 3yo season with a big reputation, and I kept backing him. Hopefully he doesn't turn into a Grade 1 horse this year, as he would be tough to beat in this, but from my fair share of watching him, he looks awkward. He was given particularly great rides last year, being held up a fair amount of times, but when he was given the squeeze to go and press the leaders, he looked to have lacked gears. This drop to 1m 2f doesn't look suited in my opinion, as he looks more a plodder. I think this will be a pipe opener for him, before he contests races at 1m 6f and eventually 2m. Aidan O'Brien's horses have looked in need of their first run this year, and even the last few years, so I think his price is terrible.
Georgeville looked to be better over 1m when he travelled the best throughout a 1m 2f race at this track a couple of years ago in a Group 3 behind Buckhurst. But since then, he has proven he does stay this trip, as he gave a bit of a beating to a couple of his rivals who contest his again today, including Leo De Fury, Bear Story and Lafayette. The latter won the Irish Lincoln two weeks ago, and did suffer interference in the race won by Georgeville, but he would have still been beat by at least 2L in my opinion.
This is his first run of the season, so fitness will have to be taken on trust, but Ger Lyons has had 4 winners since the start of the Irish flat turf season which is a good indicator they are running well.
