Racing tips: Calliope to call the shots at Kelso

KELSO returns to action with an interesting eight-race card and CALLIOPE (3.40) is fancied to resume winning ways in the opening 2m 2f handicap hurdle.

She won with a bit in hand at Perth at the end of August and found only one too good under a 7lb penalty on a return trip to the Scone circuit eight days later. Diane Sayer has retained the services of champion jockey Brian Hughes. Chinwag remains fairly unexposed for in-form Neil Mulholland and is probably the main danger.

CHAPMANSHYPE (5.10) has won four of his last five starts for Jamie Snowden and may be capable of overcoming a hefty 10lb rise for his latest success at Fontwell. Weather Front was a grand servant to Karen McLintock and has shaped well enough on two runs on the Flat for Iain Jardine to suggest he will be competitive in this 2m 5f handicap hurdle. Tight Call and Three Valleys are closely matched on Southwell form, while Beeno dug deep to win at Cartmel.

With the Les Eyre stable continuing in cracking form, COTE D'AZUR (3.35) is worth an each-way punt at Beverley. The 1m 2f handicap has attracted 15 runners but several firms are offering four places. Cote D'Azur was beaten half a length by Colony Queen (Yarmouth winner yesterday) over course and distance in June and has a lovely rails pitch.
