Saturday was a decent day with a couple of winners mixed in with a couple of fallers, unfortunately. But profit on the day was secured.

Musselburgh 4:15 – Blue Prince 3/1 (1pt)

On form, you'd have to say Myconian is the one to beat having won one of the first juvenile races in France and doing it in good fashion with the runner-up winning since. However, Blue Prince went off 7/4F on debut for Richard Fahey at today's track 22 days ago, and over the years that stable has had some really good 2yo's so the market support for him that day has to be noted and I think he could improve a heap from that first run.

The market support is quite significant as he was fancied ahead of an AMO racing horse, which takes some doing as all of their horses are strongly backed on debut.

He is by Blue Point out of sprint winning mare and I thought he shaped better than what his final position of 5th would suggest. He was bumped out of the gates, which saw him settled towards the rear, quite a way off the pace, he was green but did manage to get into a rhythm later in the race making up some good ground but Oisin Orr looked after him when he knew he had no chance of winning, giving him a learning ride.

Richard won this race a couple of years ago and I think the experience of the race day at Musselburgh and track will play to his strengths and he looks a fair enough price, considering the form looks good with the 2nd winning since.

Musselburgh 6:15 – On A Session 7/1 (1pt EW B365 4 places)

On A Session is becoming too well-handicapped to not have a bet on for this contest. He is now rated 84 having been rated as high as 96 last year.

Obviously, backing horses who are coming down the handicap seems a good idea but they have come down the handicap for a reason so not everyone likes that angle, but when you look into it, this horse has been coming down the weights from his runs over the winter on the AW which is a surface which hasn't suited him, with 0 wins from 10 runs, so you'd have to say now he's back on turf he's got to be in with a huge shout off such a low mark.

He won off a mark of 89 over today's C&D last year and finished second in a Galway Festival handicap off a mark of 93, recording an RPR of 102 in the process. He will be fit and ready for this race having been running on the AW and if he's not going close I will be surprised.

Musselburgh 6:45 – Dun Na Sead 7/1 (1pt EW Whill 5pl)

With this being part of the ‘Sunday Series' it was always going to be a competitive race as the prize money is great for the quality of race, so you'd expect a lot of southern raiders to come up, but that hasn't been the case, instead, we've got an Irish raider from the yard of Kieran Cotter.

I really do like the chances of Dun Na Sead in this race, even though it is as competitive as it is. He is racefit from his runs over the winter and his recent run at Cork on soft/heavy ground and that was a big run considering he was running out the weights that day, to finish second. The form of the race looks strong and it was a tougher race than today's race, so he should run a big race.

The winner ran to a mark 14lbs higher than his rating, and the 3rd horse has won since and finished 5th in a Listed race, only 2.75L behind the winner, in a race which has Tenebrism in it.

Kieran has done well when sending his runners to the UK in recent years with 2 wins from 8 runners and a further 3 being placed.

He is drawn high, which is a huge advantage as you can claim the rail if breaking well, and considering he tried to make all in the majority of his races, this looks to be set up perfectly for him.

Longchamp 2:50 – Bay Bridge 15/8 (2pt Whill)

This is the first Group 1 of the flat season so far (I think) and it looks like a great renewal on paper with the English Raiders making it a real competitive race.

Bay Bridge is my fancy for this race and I think now he is getting older we might see the best of him, like a typical Sir Michael Stoute horse. We all know how well Sir Michael Stoute does with his older horses, and we've always known that Bay Bridge has had the ability to mix it at the top level but he didn't quite show it last year until winning on Champions' Day at Ascot, and based on that run he is more than capable of winning this race today.

He is a horse who goes very well after a break, so the fact he's had no prep run for this doesn't concern me in the slightest. He is 4/4 after a break if you don't include his debut run, and with the form of the Stoute yard performing at an incredible strike rate of 50% from 10 runners in the last 14 days, you'd say he will be primed and ready for today's race. The ground will dry up from the current ‘Very Soft' state, and that should be perfect for him, having won on good to soft at Ascot last time out.

Vadeni has beaten Bay Bridge in his career, but he needed his run first time out last year and I think Bay Bridge is a better horse now. Real World is a very good horse, but the ground does concern me and his two recent runs at Meydan have been poor. Onesto is a good horse in his own right, but is he as good as the others? I'm not so sure.

Tashkhan in the 4.35 @ Longchamp. Loves it soft and has by far the best staying form in the race. A recent third on the return at Nottingham should put him spot on for this.
