Day 4 of the Cheltenham Festival is upon us and of course that means the prestigious Gold Cup is the highlight for the betting public.

Punters will be hoping for more of the same kind of drama that the Festival has served up so far, although maybe not with the same kind of results that saw betting slips ripped before the day really started on Thursday.

Hearts sank, along with millions of pounds worth of bets, when Thursday's shortest priced favourite Envoi Allen made an early exit in the opening race on the third day of the Cheltenham Festival. Chantry House took advantage and thankfully all was well with Envoi Allen.

Winners kept coming for Rachael Blackmore who added Allaho and Telmesomethinggirl to her three from earlier in the week to put her in pole position for Top Jockey trophy.

On to Friday at the Festival… Let's hope we can sign-off with some more winners.

Race-by-Race Tips & Racecard

⭕️ 1.20 JCB Triumph Hurdlee

“With only eight runners going to post, there is no doubt the race has lost some of its historic big-betting appeal. Nonetheless, it is a tricky little GB v Ireland puzzle to solve.”

  • Thommo's Tip
  • Voice of Value's Tip
    • Zanahiyr 4pt win at 6/4 with Casumo

⭕️ 1.55 County Handicap Hurdle

“Well if you thought the Coral Cup and the Kim Muir were tricky handicaps, you aint seen nothing yet.”

  • Thommo's Tip
  • Voice of Value's Tip
    • Eclair De Beaufeu 1.5pt ew at 12-1 with Bet365 (6 places and BOG)
    • Gowel Road 1pt ew at 16-1 with Ladbrokes and Coral (both 6 places and BOG)

⭕️ 2.30 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle

“This is usually a tough race to find the winner in and I certainly wouldn't be confident in backing those at shorter prices. It is usually a real test of stamina and it takes a hardy horse to win.”

  • Thommo's Tip
  • Voice of Value's Tip
    • The Cob 1pt ew at 25-1 with Ladbrokes (paying 4 places)

⭕️ 3.05 Cheltenham Gold Cup

“Henry de Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore have enjoyed a stellar festival and this could be the icing on the cake. “

  • Thommo's Tip
  • Voice of Value's Tip
    • Frodon 1pt ew at 14-1 with Ladbrokes and Coral (both paying 4 places and BOG)
    • Already advised: Champ ew at 10-1

⭕️ 3.40 St James’ Place Hunters’ Chase

“There won't be a dry eye in the house if they can win this and the horse will carry my small each way bet.”

  • Thommo's Tip
  • Voice of Value's Tip
    • Chameron 0.75pt ew at 16-1 with Bet365 (paying 4 places)

⭕️ 4.15 Mrs Paddy Power Mares Chase

“This is of course the first running of the race and it's good for horses like Shattered Love in my view.”

  • Thommo's Tip
  • Voice of Value's Tip
    • No bet for now

⭕️ 4.50 Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle

“There are other well-handicapped horses and there are questions over whether this race comes too soon but I do need to have a small win bet on him just in case he bolts up.”

  • Thommo's Tip
  • Voice of Value's Tip
    • Langer Dan 2pt win at 6-1 with Ladbrokes (BOG)
    • Frontal Assault 1.5pt ew at 20-1 with Ladbrokes (5 places and BOG)

The opening race, the 2 mile 1 furlong triumph hurdle was won in 2014 by a young 4 year old called tiger roll at 10-1.
He went on to win the 4 mile + grand national carrying 11st 5lb.
This is the human equivalent of usain bolt winning a 5000 metre race carrying a Bergen full of house bricks.

7 years later and he still he is still defying logic for a flat bred horse.
Nothing to do with today’s race but I wager no horse in this race will come close to tigers roll of honour.
    Rant over 🏇😁

    Day 4 …..let’s go out with a bang !!

    Triumph

Quilixios was my first AP bet which I put up here last sept.
If he places I’ll be happy enough but the best horse is Zanahiyr.
I couldn’t believe Tritonic was fav until a few days ago, he beat trees lto. Zanahiyr beat St Sam by 14L in a ridiculous time. He then won a tactical race at the DRF which showed he also has a turn of foot.
He should get fav backers off to a good start.

    County

A minefield to work out but like Mrs Milner today I’ve gone for a trainer that has sent just 1 runner across.
Liz Doyles Cayd Boy 18/1 6 places. Is progressive and will enjoy conditions.
I’ve also backed Darasso at 50/1 7 places. He’s actually been dropped 5lbs since his last run which is very unusual.

    AB

I have an AP ew double with Statler and Al Boum Photo. Not sure Statler will win but hopefully places.
Streets of Doyen’s form got a big boost today when Flooring Porter won as he beat him by 5L at gowran on good ground.
    He’s also a C&D winner

    Gold Cup

I cant believe that APT is vying for fav. I’m not saying he won’t win but ABP should be clear fav for the race.
Having said that he’s now at a price that has enticed me to go in again.

    Hunter

No interest but will try Stalker Wallace ew. He hasn’t been beaten that far by Billaway and hopefully he can turn the tables this time.

    Mares

Elimay will probably win but Shattered Love is a great ew price

    Martin Pipe

Going for 2 here. Like Dazzman I like Floueur who has moved to JOB from Elliott. Top weights have won the last 3 and if Cayd Boy can run well in the County it will give the form a big boost.
The other is Frontal Assault with Jordan Gainford onboard.

    • Deb2000 3 years ago

DC with Allaho hacking up today he has really backed up APT and Champs form it’s going to be a cracking GC 👍

      1
    • double carpet 3 years ago

      Deb
      I know what your saying.
They both have a chance and wouldn’t put anyone off either, but ABP has been there and done it twice, once in a fast run race and last year in a slow tactical race and should be clear fav.
The bookies have reacted to the HDB / Blackmore hype and shortened their runners up. Even Quilixios is 2nd fav now. Pats Fancy who hasn’t a hope in the AB has shortened because Blackmore is on. Cabaret Queen in the Mares the same.

    • Deb2000 3 years ago

I agree ABP should be clear Fav but APT has been shortening for a couple of weeks I bet it at 10s start of the month. 2 years younger as well.
Quilixios in my book should be 2nd fav 👍

Round of applause to you all. Top tips and top form, but special mention to Double Carpet. Keep up the good work mate. Backed some of you picks w/o favourites and has been highly successful. Gold cup day and I sharing my selections.

    My selections today:

1.20 Zanahiyr – Good horse, can stay all day and only challenge is Alan Kings Horse Tritonic who has got the speed, but I like this horse a lot.

2:30 Barbados Bucks – From the family of one my favourite horses Big Bucks, stepping up here today, but has the stamina. This selection is with my heart due to my love of Big Bucks.

3.05 A Plus Tard – Antepost pick – Yard and Jockey in form. Upcoming horse, has not done anything wrong this year and should give the ALP a run for top spot.#

3.40 It Came to Pass – On much better form this year then it was last year when it won this same race.
I have done these selection in a each way yankee.

Each way picks w/o favourites –

1.20 Adagio – most experienced horse in this race, has won a grade one as well and 11/2 each way without both favourites is something I cannot look past. 1/ 2 places

1.55 Darasso – comes from good connections. Has won graded races before. Ran in champion hurdle last year and is under radar. 50/1 without favourite is big price.

2.30 Alaphilippe – most experienced horse in this race. Has had 5 starts in point to points before today races. Ground might suit him and he is an improving horse. 11/1 without favourite is nice.

3.05 Native River – did not run in this same race last year 2020, but he is looking good. Trainer horses might not be on form, but horse is looking as good as ever this and he top rated horse according to racing post ratings, doesn’t mean he will win, but for to me that he’s back to his best. Course and distance winner, won in 2018, multiple placed runs here. This screams value. 10/1

3.40 Stalker Wallace Good form which is 2212 since then with two in points and two in races in there. Has run at Cheltenham before, Good rating of 7 pounds and good jockey on today. 15/2 without favourites.

All prices from bet365. I have done place bet, each way accu and single each ways.

Good luck all and I will be having a few before the Gold Cup.

Zanahiyr pulled too hard early on but it was a strange ride I thought. He kept on after the last but I thought he was given a softish ride.
As I said earlier I very had Quilixios backed since last sept (25/1) so I’m not complaining but I still think Zanahiyr is the best horse.

had very average form beat one horse who came 2nd in a grade 3 this week but the distance wasnt form you could rely on too heavily.. shortly after they met again, bussleton almost dead last this week was 2nd and beat saint sam, given this race was a grade one, at the price zanahiyr was unbackable, nice 25/1, i took adagio. onwards.

aint for me to put people off, nothing wrong commenting after, dissect after and learn, if you look at the form, you wouldn’t be touching it, 99% of people bet based on what they can see on a race card.. which keeps the bookies in business. gd luck anyway, im gone

Also some asked for a alternative to willie Mullins and paul Townsend . I said Rachael Blackmore x HDB 12/1 looking good too

    • Deb2000 3 years ago

Am on HDB at 8s plug but still not over yet as Mullins has strong runners in last 3 races.

Do we get a tenner for 2nd 😁

  38. double carpet 3 years ago

That’s 20 irish winners so far with still 4 races to go. I’d say there will be a few discussions over the coming weeks / months to see what can be done about this.
Even the Champion jockey is a Fakenham today ??

    1
  39. double carpet 3 years ago

Can’t believe Townend allowed Rachel to do that to him again at the bend. Race was over there and then.
    Delighted for Jack Kennedy
I’d say Nicky is on the bottle after that !!!

    2
    • theplug 3 years ago

She is some jockey, that is something ruby Walsh would have done

    • double carpet 3 years ago

      Plug
That’s the difference, no top jockey would allow that to happen and Townend allowed it to happen twice

  40. Deb2000 3 years ago

Lol DC champ thought he was running in a flat race didn’t take off at any fences.
You could practically call the winner going down the back travelled that well and with it being a strong stayer was always going to be hard to pass.

  41. busstop.2018 3 years ago

Great story and great ride there for the winner of the gold cup nice to watch.

One worry for us all nobody on the thread picked the winner of the biggest race .

    been some good tips though.

  43. elvis parsley 3 years ago

Got a win and place in that to cheer me up.

Already picked 2 in the lucky last gentlemen De mee NAP and Leoncavallo and will add first lord de guet 70-1 ew 5 places and 20-1 ew extra 10 places in the race named after the trainer’s father.

Also Martin pipes right hand man died yesterday and would be an emotional end to a great meeting.

1st time posting in the racing thread.

Kicked myself for not backing Belfast Banter at 33s

Know nothing about horseys but said it’d win.

Not making the same mistake this time.

Im on Leoncavallo @ 22s if anyone thinks I’m lucky

    Good luck!

  49. bubblegoose 3 years ago

Just some info, @theracingmole1 on twitter picked 5 of the 7 winners today incl Minella Indo, no idea if more luck than skill but thought I’d share if useful for future to the regular horse folk, stuck a fiver double on their last 2 picks for fun, nice winner to end the festival :) Back to my footy bets!
    Best of luck all!

Another kick in the teeth for me in the last race a was on Gabynako at 8s brought down at 1st and Langer Dan at 10s and guess who wins the race Mullins knocking out my HDB top trainer bet on having more 2nds 😡😡😡.
Think I’ll go for a lie down instead of hitting the bottle 😂😂

Well done everybody who managed to profit from Cheltenham.
For me Frodon finishing 5th instead of 4th meant I finished well down instead of well up as I had Frodon in all my e/w multi bets.

Screaming Colours 10/1 for Midlands National tomorrow.
The Irish to continue to plunder our biggest prizes.

Crawmeister the Jonjo horse has went from 14s to 9/4 in the last few days huge gamble.

    • Crawmeister 3 years ago

Yes. I wondered how the Jonjo horse was so short.

Had a great last day in no small thanks to this website, £10 on Zanahiyr, lost but £10 back from skybet which I put on YouRaise Me Up in the 1.55 which lost. Then the fun started

    £2.50ew on Vanillier @ 20/1
Listened to De Bromhead getting interviewed regarding the Gold Cup, he said don’t forget about Minella Indo, had a look at its form and the ground seemed right up his street, so had £5 ew @ 9/1.
    Didn’t touch the hunters chase.
This morning I noticed that Coolreevy had slammed Mount Ida 12 lengths, not an ew price so put £20 on at 7/2 this morning.
Last race £2.50 ew on Fleuour @ 33/1!!

Two awful days, a bit unlucky yesterday and a cracker today, to be back in front for the end of the week.
    Thank you, great tips.
