Friday's racing has arrived in the blink of an eye, and as usual, we’ve another ram-packed selection of racing to get tucked into.
It’s not often I throw up 3 racing tips, hopefully, I don’t go running with my tail between my legs!
4:20 Newmarket – Simply Sondheim 11/10
Only 6 runners in this field but I think this is actually a decent little race so be it only a class 5.
George Boughey’s 3-year-old is absolutely thriving and a win tomorrow would rack up a 6-timer!
He didn’t really look like he was up to much looked as a juvenile, but a combination of a gelding operation and experience in racing as a whole has sparked this boy into life.
A 5 timer in itself is impressive but what makes it more impressive for me is the fact he’s won at multiple different venues and all quite impressively.
How many times do we use a track as an excuse for a horse to underperform? Quite regularly. This horse has won at Hamilton, Goodwood, Newcastle, Lingfield and also Leicester. All these courses have their tough points and to notch up back-to-back victories on different tracks I think is a decent pointer in itself.
Simply Sondheim started the year on a mark of only 56 and now he’s roughly 30lb higher and I don’t quite think he’s hit his optimum yet.
He’s a short-priced favourite at 11/10 but not the worse of value I’ve seen for a horse on such a run and he’s clearly the one to beat with William Buick taking the ride.
7:00 Down Royal – Ronald Pump 7/4
My 2nd selection sees me head to Irish racing at Down Royal. A race course only 35min from me that I’ve surprising not been to. Well, maybe not so surprising because I’m more of a UK flat racinf tipster than anything else but I fancy the chances of Ronald Pump tomorrow evening.
He can correct me if I’m wrong but I think Rizz has tipped up this horse on a few occasions. I think he has brought home the goods before and maybe ran below par as well.
Now a 9-year-old he's probably not the force he once was but still a horse with enough ability to win this race.
He’s run some cracking races in defeat including chasing home the almighty Honeysuckle!
He was turned over as a 2/5 favourite recently at Cork over 3m but would only have to take a small step forward from that run to probably land this one.
The main danger looks to be J P O’Brien’s runner Home By The Lee. That one has been absent for roughly 5 months. It’s always hard to judge whether a horse maybe needs a run or not after being off the track for such a time but if turning up on song will definitely be involved at the finish.
5:53 Hamilton – Shine on Brendan (Betting without Breckland ) 5/2
To be perfectly honest I was surprised to not see Shine On Brendan as a marked-up favourite in this race.
He ran a cracking race when finishing 6th of 13 in class 3 behind the likes of Richard Hannon's System and Galiac trained by the Grassicks. Galiac actually finished 2nd at Newcastle last night in a competitive racing league race behind Menai Bridge so I think the form of Shine On Brendan's previous run is quite strong.
Given he’s taking quite a significant drop in grade for this race I only think he needs to run to the standard he did last time to win.
I can’t understand how Breckland is favourite and given the market has him up as favourite and sometimes they know more than we do. I’ve opted to use the betting without market where you can get my selection without Breckland at an attractive price of 5/2.
