I’M off to Aintree today for the second day of the festival and I am absolutely buzzing for it.
The racing is top quality and I am quite keen on a few at shorter prices so I might throw some multiples on for a laugh too. We definitely need to be wary of the potentially soft ground but there are quite a few who appeal.
1.45pm Merseyrail Handicap Hurdle
A competitive handicap where there has been a huge overnight gamble on Tedham who is now 7-2 from double figure prices yesterday evening. The attraction with him is obvious, particularly now that there has been money but I’m interested in a different one at a big price. I have heard positive whispers through the grapevine from the Henderson yard about KOBROUK who has yet to race in the U.K. since being brought across from France. The soft ground will be ideal and if the rumours are correct he could be primed for a big run today because some of his French form is very good.
2.20pm Betway Top Novices Hurdle
The form of the Supreme at Cheltenham is pretty strong and ITCHY FEET really impressed me that day. This isn’t as good a race and he showed that soft ground was no problem last time.
2.50pm Betway Mildmay Novices Chase
I think this is between Topofthegame and Lost In Translation and I think the market has it just about right with the former as slightly odds on. I’m not going to have a bet in this one because I don’t see much of an angle although I may stick Topofthegame in a multiple bet. His RSA win was really impressive and he could be a monster for Nicholls going forward.
3.25pm JLT Chase (aka Melling Chase)
This is clearly between Waiting Patiently and Politologue for me and although the latter ran a screamer in the Champion Chase I’m going for WAITING PATIENTLY in part because he comes into this fresh having not run at Cheltenham. The trip and ground should be ideal and I’m looking forward to a great race.
4.05pm Topham Chase
I can’t wait for this one. I’m really looking forward to seeing this large field hurtling over the national fences. Course and distance form is crucial and I think KILCREA VALE is far too big a price as things stand. He is better off in the weights now than he was for his 3rd place finish in the Grand Sefton and I can see him running a huge race at a big price.
4.40pm Doom Bar Sefton Novices Hurdle
This one is quite simple for me. CHAMP should win this and if anything I’m actually concerned that his price has drifted a bit. I’m ploughing on regardless though and hopefully come 5pm we’ll be asking how we managed to get this price about him. He should win this provided he is ok after his exertions at Cheltenham.
5.15pm Weatherbys Bumper
There is nothing that jumps out at me here but I’ll be having a look in the paddock to see which one catches the eye. I’ll try to update on twitter @thevoiceofvalue so give me a follow and if there is anything that looks the part I’ll let you know.
