Thursdays Bet of the Day sees me focus on the Eliteserien and there’s two sides in particular that jump out to me.
Bodø/Glimt vs Haugesund
🇳🇴 Eliteserien
⏰ Thursday, 27th May, 17:00
Last years Norwegian champions Bodø/Glimt host Haugesund on Thursday evening. Glimt have started off unbeaten and joint top with Molde whereas Haugesund have drawn both of their games.
Despite losing their mighty front 3 of Hauge (Milan) Zinckernagel (Watford) and Junker (Urawa Red) Glimt look like they’ll be fighting for the title once again. Glimt looked to be heading to a second successive draw on Monday but snatched a late winner to defeat Brann. That now takes their points tally to 10 from 4 games and have already scored 9 goals which is more than a solid start.
Haugesund were one of 8 sides to start the season a week later due to Covid regulations in certain areas and given an extra weeks preparation. Whilst their fans will be happy to see their side back in action, it’s hardly been an entertaining start drawing both their opening fixtures 0-0. Both draws came against sides that finished 8th and 12th last season. A trip to Bodø will present Haugesund with a much tougher challenge.
Molde vs Vålerenga
🇳🇴 Eliteserien
⏰ Thursday 27th May, 19:00
The two sides that finished directly below Bodø/Glimt last season meet at the Aker stadium in Thursday evenings late kick off. Molde currently sit joint top with Glimt whereas Valerenga currently sit 6th.
Molde claimed a dramatic win with two late goals last time out at the Lerkendal Stadion with a 2-3 win over Rosenberg. That win put them above Bodø/Glimt on goal difference. In fact barring a crazing second half away to Tromsø where they conceded 3 goals and threw away a 3 goal lead, it’s been a perfect start. 10 points out of a possible 12 and an impressive goal tally of 12 looks to me like a side that are out to regain their title from Bodø/Glimt.
Last years 3rd placed side Vålerenga have begun with an inconsistent start. They’ve won only once and have already lost an Eliteserien game at home for the first time since 2019. Last time out they grabbed a 1-1 draw away to Mjøndalen with a late equaliser, a game where Mjøndalen also missed a penalty. Vålerenga have a horrible recent record away to Molde losing on their last five trips by a 21-3 aggregate.
Bet of the Day
The first part of the double is in Bodø where I’m backing the champions to collect all 3 points against a side they defeated 10-1 over both games last season. Then the side joint top Molde who have a harder game at home to last years number 3 Vålerenga. I fancy Molde to win but such is their attacking quality I’m backing them to score at least 2 against a side who’ve conceded a mimimim of 4 goals in their last five visits to Molde.
- Bodø/Glimt to win
- Molde to score 2+
- Double pays 1.33/1 (William Hill)
Thumbs up, Greg👍
