The DP World Tour continues its rounds with a visit to Switzerland with this week's Omega European Masters at Crans-Sur-Sierre Golf Club, Crans, Montana, Switzerland.
The 156 field with the top 65 including ties making the cut will all be competing for a share of the €2M prize purse with the winner collecting the European Masters title and a cheque for €340,000.
Rasmus Hojgaard returns to defend the title he won here last year when beating Bernd Wiesberger with one shot to spare.
Crans-sur-Sierre will be playing 6,824 yards long this week, it’s a par 70 parkland track where the key to success will require accuracy and precision, it will also suit the long hitters with some decisions to make that could pay off or not as the case may be on the shorter reachable holes.
I’ve already posted my predictions and preview for this week's Tour Championship as the race to become the FedEx Cup Champion 2022 heats up in Atlanta with the final 30 players in contention battling it out at East Lake.
The weather is forecast to be sunny and warm throughout with little or no breezes to contend with. This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf with live coverage starting at 12.30 pm on Thursday afternoon. So let’s move on with this week's Omega European Masters betting selections.
Omega European Masters Preview
Ewen Ferguson
For my first and main selection in Switzerland, I'm going to stick with a player who did the business for both us and him only a fortnight ago, Ewen Ferguson. Ferguson can be found priced at 50/1 with Unibet, paying 1/6 places EW. The young 26-year-old Scot from Glasgow bagged his second DP World Tour crown at Galgorm Castle last time out when winning the ISPS Handa World Invitational to our delight.
I had advised Ferguson at 25/1 that week and our next best selection Connor Syme, friend and countryman also finished runner-up to make it yet another 1st & 2nd here at MFT.
I’m a tad baffled with the 50/1 on offer from the firms, especially after that victory at the last time of asking but again I’m not complaining. It’s been an amazing year for the Glaswegian which all started with a maiden DP World Tour title at the Qatar Masters.
Other notable performances include 8th at the Magical Kenya Open and 12th at the Cazoo Open. Ferguson is ranked 5th on the DP World Tour this year for Greens In Regulation and with accuracy and precision the name of the game at Crans-sur-Sierre, you can count on Ewen Ferguson to be challenging on his way to victory once again but at double the odds so my advice is to take the 50/1 while it’s available!
Rasmus Hojgaard
For my next tip, I’m going to advise the defending Champion Rasmus Hojgaard 28/1 EW Bet365. It’s hard to believe that this kid at only 21-year-old from Denmark has already bagged three DP World Titles and for sure there will be much more to follow, possibly this weekend in Switzerland.
Winner at this event last year as well as the winner at both the ISPS Handa Championship in 2020 and winner also at the Mauritius Open in 2019 when scooping his maiden title at only 18 years old, it’s clear to see that this kid is oozing talent Hojgaard has five Top 20 finishes this year with the best of those being 6th at the Corales Championship over on the PGA Tour. A recent 10th place at the Scottish Open suggests to me that this wonder kid is on track to bag another title anytime soon.
To be able to pick and choose events on both the PGA and DP World Tours at such a young age proves just how good this kid is.
With a Driving Distance Average of 313.95 yards along with Greens in Regulation figures reading 68.43, Rasmus Hojgaard could be the one they all have to beat yet again this time around as he successfully defends his crown in style at probably the most stunning and picturesque golfing venue in the world.
Marcus Armitage
For my last outright betting selection, I’m going to single out Marcus Armitage 40/1 EW Bet365. The 35-year-old from Salford has a Top 10 and Top 20 finish at the last two times of asking, 9th last time out at the Cazoo Open and 16th previously at the Cazoo Classic.
He now has seven Top 20 finishes this year with three of those being Top 10s. 9th at the Cazoo Classic mentioned above as well as 9th again at the Ras Al Khaimah Classic and best of all 5th at the Qatar Masters. With only one DP World Tour crown to date, it’s about time that Marcus Armitage got himself back on that winner’s podium anytime soon and this birdie machine could do just that if firing on all cylinders this weekend.
His Greens in Regulation figures are up there with the best and it's these figures that will prove pivotal come Sunday afternoon. I’ve been watching the Englishman recently and his ball striking has been sublime. He just needs the confidence to go on and scoop that second title that has eluded him for years now.
He's certainly been knocking on the door on more than a few occasions and I just have a feeling that course and conditions are all set up for Marcus Armitage to be celebrating in Montana this coming Sunday with another victory.
For my final selection, it’s the customary match bet and for this week's NAP I’m going to advise another of our homegrown talents, Robert MacIntyre, to beat Adrian Meronk over 72 holes 1/1 Nap Bet365.
