CHARL Schwartzel's birdie at 17 in Round 4 made this blog viable as he placed for us at 22/1 and a case of the ‘tom tits' for Erik van Rooyen meant withdrawal for Wayne's cousin, meaning we more or less got our stakes back .

There is one more event this year before we all sit down and watch the Queen's speech, argue with our loved ones, pray for the day we return to work, put on two stone and consume enough alcohol to wipe out the Polish army.

My feeling is we might as well give ourselves a confidence booster going into this turbulent time by selecting the winner this week at Leopard Creek, South Africa, for the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Firstly, some course stats; it's a Par 72 measuring 7,287 yards and it's based on the edge of the Kruger National Park. The wildlife at Kruger consists of leopards, lions, white rhinos and elephants. I have a good friend who I play golf with and it's a shame he isn't there this week as I would like to leave him right in the middle of all of them and drive off on the golf buggy – the way he is driving lately is phenomenal and is beginning to have a serious impact on my confidence.

Such is life and rant over he's a great (and handsome) lad truth be told and we must head to our selections this week.

Matt Wallace

Hot head Wallace is proving a serious golfer , 3 wins this year almost always in contention , give us a run for our money

Dylan Frittelli

The rockstar missed the cut last week and while that was a negative for the blog its a positive for this week; rest and recuperation could prove key and in a similar field he's a bigger price so let's go again.

Bernd Weisberger

The Big Cheese is a big price this week. Yes, he's been injured since May but has played the last two weeks and a price of 3 figures about a man who has been ranked as high as world number 23 , won 8 European tour titles and is Austria's number 1 will do for me.

David Lipsky

The American has faltered recently, dropping sharply down the rankings so this is a wildcard pick at best but one I'm prepared to put forward. Lipsky can get on runs of birdies, and bogeys for that fact, let's hope it's a birdie week.

That completes the staking plan and 2018. Finally a mention to weekly reader, Chod, have a super Xmas and thanks for all the support, love you pal .

Lipsy at 175-1 was a great shout – I’m just about over Ace retiring!
