WE'RE just about getting a handle on the Turkish League when not surprisingly it was suspended.

Leaders Trabzonspor were meant to be in action on Friday night and club president Ahmet Agaoglu has warned the suspension will result in a massive rise in divorces – and who can argue with that.

So with Turkey gone we have matches in Belarus, Singapore and Australia in the early hours of the morning.

It's round one in Belarus so no form to go with as Dinamo Minsk take on Ruh Brest and Dinamo Brest face Smolevichi. The Dinamos are favourites but Thursday's two games saw favourites Shakhter and BATE lose so I'm leaving them out.

In the A League we have Central Coast Mariners vs Melbourne City and Brisbane Roar vs Newcastle Jets and Sean, a big follower of Aussie football, has posted a cracking write-up on Robbie Fowler's Road and one bet he fancies is ex-Celt Scott McDonald to score.

For me it's a no bet day as I've been asked to try to fill a page in Saturday's Daily Record and my focus is on those game.

Well done to anyone who picked a winner on Thursday – and let's hope the Premier League and SPFL's optimistic proposals to try to play games in May is spot on. I'm still thinking August or September is more likely.

Little bet on Haiti league 9pm, for interest.
    Half stake.

    Violet v Archie
    Archie to score 5-4 (hills).

Half a stake better than nowt 👍

      Spellchecker strikes again.
Violette v arcahaie of course 😀.
But I’m sure you are all familiar with Haiti football and would have known the correct spelling of course 🙈

    • Mr Fixit 4 years ago

Of course. Remember Haiti well from the 1974 World Cup when Scotland should have won it.
Without googling can anyone tell me who Haiti scored their first World Cup final goal against.
There’s some tapas for the right answer.

    • kyle b 4 years ago

Well over 20 years before I was born but I’ll guess Spain 🤷🏻‍♂️ Not actually sure if they were innit actually 🤔

    • Mr Fixit 4 years ago

Wasn’t Spain – the tapas caught you out. It was in fact Italy.

    • elvis parsley 4 years ago

Not sure but this masterclass of defending a free kick was the highlight of the tournament.

A polish keeper called Jan tomascewski made sure England missed the party too in 74.
My abiding memory was that free kick madness by Zaire and east Germany beating west Germany 1-0 then seeing the westies go on and lift the cup.

    Australian A league.
Been torn all week on match 1. On paper it looks like an easy away win, however city have a shocking record on the central coast despite the mariners being the worst team in the league for the majority of it. (1 win in 5 years, 2 wins in 13 matches) More recently they’ve also only won 1 of their last 5 away games and star man Jamie mcclaren has just 3 goals in his last 9 games 2 of which came from the penalty spot. I watched them at home last week as well and they should’ve lost that game were it not for Simon cox allowing a defender to clear the ball off the line when he was literally trying to walk it into an empty net. I missed the win over Perth so can’t comment about that game but with the reasons I’ve mentioned above I can’t bring myself to tip/back city. If ever there was a game you’d think the mariners could spring a surprise, this would be it for me. As for the mariners they are on a 9 game losing streak so definitely can’t be backed even on double chance, so for me this leaves goals. As poor as the mariners are they are more than capable of netting at home and having conceded 3 in their last 3 matches to teams of a similar ilk to city I like the asian goal line of 3 at bet 365. My first thought was backing 2-3 match goals at 11/10 but this could be one of those games that could see that in by ht and I don’t want to limit myself. Both teams will go forward and look to win the game and for me this means cards and corners as well as goals. History of reds in this fixture on the Gold Coast in recent times and I would rule one out in this game either but I’m gonna take a skybet cards /goals /corners roll up as my NB and have a small stake on a red.

    A league
    Brisbane roar v Newcastle Jets
2 sides in cracking form face off in Brisbane tomorrow both looking for the win that could see their playoff hopes realised. After a shaky start under Robbie Fowler the roar have come to life in 2020 with 7 wins from 11 games and only 2 defeats with those coming away at the top 2. I described them as unwatchable at the start of the season, slow, 1 paced, and with as much attacking bite as 97 year old woman with no teeth, but that’s all changed now and fowler seems to have gotten his ideas across. 1 man who has helped that recently has been Scott McDonald, after a slow start to his roar career he’s now netted 4 in his last 2 and looks a decent bet for a goal tomorrow. As for they jets I mentioned last week how they had gotten a new manager bounce from Welshman Carl Robinson, and it continued with a 3-0 thumping of Adelaide on their own patch. Resolute in defence and with a real threat up front I’d back the jets to make the playoffs they weren’t away to Sydney in one of their remaining matches and had a game or 2 more. They are unbeaten in 6 winning the last 2 against Adelaide and Perth and look in fine form at both ends of the pitch. One of the reasons for their upturn has been the signing of A league stalwart Roy O Donovan. Despite netting 6 times earlier in the season for the roar he looked old and slow, and a player on the way out. I’ve seen him the past few weeks for the jets and he looks completely reborn again and is definitely worth considering for a goal. He’ll be out to show fowler he was wrong to let him go.
I can’t split these 2 and think a draw is also a decent shout and that will be 1 of my smaller bets. Never mentioned this in my other preview but both games are behind closed doors but I don’t think this will have too much of an effect. The mariners usually average crowds of about 5k and Brisbane play most of their games in a stadium that holds 52k but it’s always a ghost town for football matches (although the match tomorrow is at a different stadium) so I can’t see no fans being a massive change. Good luck if you follow anything between the 2 games.

For the guys who like betbuilders both teams should manage 4+ corners each. At 4/6 on skybet this is a wee bit too skinny for a single for me when I have a few other bets on but you could combine this with btts or the aforementioned players to score.

Thanks Mac, unlucky mate well worth a dabble. Seems bookies are pricing up the well known Belorussian big teams like they are playing in front of a full capacity crowd, saw Rukh were 8/1 for the Win today which obliged, Energetik were 12/1 against Bate. Duly noted for if this is the best football we’ve got for the forseeable.

    Saturday A league
Tomorrow’s match is a Sydney derby, and we go into this one in the unusual position of Sydney being the best team in the league by a country mile, but being on the wrong end of 2 1-0 defeats in the derby matches this season. Again this one will be behind closed doors so it probably won’t have the intensity a derby match should, so it’s hard to know how to play this one in terms of goals. Both sides will absolutely be looking to win, but both H2h this season have been stale affairs, so I’m giving goals a swerve tomorrow and focusing on cards and corners. I’ve highlighted numerous times this season how poor a corners team Sydney despite being the best team in the league, they are bottom of the total corners per game league table and 2nd bottom of the team corners per game table averaging less than 5 a game. They bucked that grand last week chalking up an impressive 9 against Perth glory- and still couldn’t win the corner H2h. Since round 7 they’ve managed to win the corner count twice, granted there has been a few draws recently. With this in mind I’m gonna take a chance on wsw to take this market. I’m also gonna take a chance on the wanderers to pick up the most cards tomorrow as well. The likes of schwegler and giorgevski seem to get booked every time I watch them and although it will be an empty stadium there will still be 1 or 2 challenges where a foot gets left in. Neither side are particularly what you would call dirty (wsw 4th Sydney 7th in card stats) but this is the last chance this season for these players to leave one on an opponent and with Sydney looking to avenge their 2 defeats I reckon they will have slightly more of the ball which should mean more tackles from wsw. The last match a few weeks ago saw a red and a few yellows dished out in the last 5 mins and that was by the softest ref in the league. These markets can be very “flaky” so it’s not Advised to go mad on stakes, and I’ll just be splitting a usual NAP stake in these 2 bets. I’m also gonna throw together a betbuilder I’d likely suspects to be carded, more for interest rather than anything I could tip with a degree of certainty. I have 3/4 suspects lined up, can’t get schwegler on hills just now, but the other 3 pay 35/1. Hopefully they add him to it. I’m gonna keep looking at this match and if I can come up with anything I thinks worthy of a NAP and NB I’ll get it up.
    Advised tips
    Wsw most corners 11/8 skybet/bet 365
    Wsw most cards 23/20 hills
    Giorgievski/retre/grant all to be carded
35/1 hills. If you can add shwegler then do so.

    • Mr Fixit 4 years ago

      Cheers again.

    • kyle b 4 years ago

888 have Schwegler @ 8/5, only bookie I can find offering a price on him.

    • sean567 4 years ago

Yeah seen that Kyle, can’t get it in a betbuilder tho.

    • sean567 4 years ago

Kyle if I remember correctly shweglers card last week was his 8Th yellow of the season meaning he’s banned, that’s probably why he’s not on hills list

    • kyle b 4 years ago

Makes sense now why he is not on Sky either who seem to be offering prices for about 40 players in that game lol, they not normally that vast but just shows how desperate bookies are for you to have a bet.

  26. kf 4 years ago

Hi Sean, just a quick question. Trying to understand why you think WSW most corners tomorrow? I looked on Flashscore h2h for last 3 times they’ve met and stats for corners were 10 – 3, 9 – 4 and 10 – 0 in Sydneys favour…am I reading it wrong?

    • sean567 4 years ago

Nope your reading it right Pete. It’s because most weeks, Sydney are awful for corners, but they are the best team in the league, so you always get a decent price on the opposition to beat them in this market. They play with absolutely no width, it’s essentially 2 holding midfielders in the centre and 2 no 10s out wide. They know their strengths lie in their footballing abilities with ninkovic and baumjohann in particular so most of the time they try to play thru teams. They have little height in attack so very rarely try and get to the byline and put crosses in which is usually what leads to a high corner count. I’ve backed against Sydney a few times this year and landed it no bother so I’m happy risking a half stake on it at odds against.

Stick-thin cards and more meat on a butcher’s pencil but the one game happening off the coast of Venezuela may just have a touch of value…

    LA FAMA VS. BRITANNIA (12.00am)

365 would never dream of offering full markets for goals in Aruba but times are hard and I reckon that there’s a chance to capitalise albeit with low stakes:

    BRITTANIA OVER 1.5 GOALS
    (11/10, bet365) NAP ⭐⭐

    BRITTANIA OVER 2.5 GOALS
    10/3, bet365) NB ⭐

    Best of luck 😉

    • Mr Fixit 4 years ago

      Good find.

  30. sean567 4 years ago

After a bit of digging thru hills sections I’ve managed to find a couple of bets I think are worthy of NAP/NB stakes or status. Apologies for the NAP being a short price but if it lands you won’t hear me complaining.
    Sydney dc
    Each team 3+ corners
    Wsw over 0.5 cards
    7/10 NAP

    Each team over 1 card
    23/20 NB

As for the betbuilder on player cards I mentioned above, the player I would’ve said was an absolute cert for a card (schwegler) isn’t in action because.. yip you guessed it he’s suspended for picking up 8 yellows. I’m adding another wsw player, keanu baccus. He plays in midfield and will probably be the replacement for the Swiss, and also likes a card or 5. Makes the betbuilder 100/1

    • Duzza 4 years ago

Hills offering 4-5 on both teams 3+corners. Comes in better then bet builder which makes no sense. Tailing tho. Cheers for the write ups👍🏻

    • sean567 4 years ago

The 4/5 is for each team over 3 corners duzza so minimum of 4 needed. The betbuilder is 3+
