MRF TopTips Generic Ozil

A BUSY midweek card begins on Tuesday night and let's hope the weather allows the majority of games to go ahead.

There are two good-looking Champions League fixtures with Chelsea hosting Bayern Munich and Barcelona travelling to Napoli.

I fancy goals in both games and reckon Bayern will be too strong for the Blues – I've posted a separate Champions League preview and the matches are previewed by kevinmac and SlipsTips so check them out.

Elsewhere there are five games in the English Championship including West Brom vs Preston and eight in League One and League Two.

Motherwell face St Mirren in the Premiership a week after a 4-4 Scottish Cup draw and there are seven games scheduled in the lower leagues. The weather has improved but check for late call-offs.

I fancy goals again at Fir Park and for a treble add QPR v Derby and Ayr v Morton. Home QPR games usually produce while Derby's last five have brought up btts. Morton drew 4-4 with Alloa at the weekend six of their last seven visits to Somerset have landed the btts market with two meetings this season being 3-2 and 4-2 wins for Ayr.

Taking English lower-league teams to win in midweek is always risky but I fancy West Brom who have pushed clear at the top of the Championship with four wins in five and should see off a Preston side from whom you never really know what you're going to get.

The top in League One meet at St Andrews with Coventry entertaining Rotherham. The Sky Blues have won five out of six while Rotherham have four from five so every chance of a draw – but my bet is Coventry not to lose.

Another two form teams meet at the Stadium of Light as Sunderland entertain Fleetwood. This is fourth v sixth and having not conceded in their last five wins I'm favouring Sunderland but for the treble going with draw no bet.

Well done to all the winners on Monday including maccathered with his Liverpool tips and double handful on his 20-1 first scorer.

I took the wrong option of Liverpool to win to nil and while all my goals bets landed on the treble I included Eintracht & overs so that was a loser.

    5 championship games – 14+ goals 4/5

I like the look of the WBA V Preston game – Preston are 4/7 to score and 5/6 to score before 78 mins

QPR and Billericay are both so home so worth backing over 1.5 second half goals

In Scotland I’m taking Stranraer ( if it’s on) to score at home to Montrose and St Mirren to score againat Motherwell ( evens)

Completely agree with the Skybet total goals special on championship games Greg. Will defo be on that.

Chelsea v Bayern looks like there could be plenty of goals, Bayern have been great to watch recently but they concede quite a few if you pressure them.

Not convinced on backing goals in Napoli v Barca though. Gattuso has Naples playing with a bit more shape and intensity, Napoli will be up for this. Reckon it’ll be tighter than people think.

Looking at Chelsea v Bayern. 2 out of 3 Chelsea CL home games were 3 total goals or more whereas all 3 of Bayern away CL games were O5 total goals. 3 out of 5 Chelsea EPL home games were 3 total goals or more, and 5 out of 5 Bayern Bundesliga away games were 3 total goals or more. Taking O3 total goals tonite.

    Tuesday Tennis.

Nothing today that I’m as confident about as I was with Svitolina losing to Anisimova yestedsay, but I’ll get behind a few underdogs on the WTA.

Carla Suarez Navarro d Kvitova @ 21/10 (9/4 when I posted last night) Doha 12:30. 5 of the last 6 meetings between these two former champions have gone the way of CSN, and she won their only previous meeting at the tournament (2015). She is coming into this off a 6-0 second set against Zheng in her opener, whereas Kvitova is coming in cold after withdrawing from her last tournament with an illness. No guarantees in this matchup as Kvitova has the power to hit last CSN when she’s dialled in, but the odds are good enough for me to swing for the Spaniard here.

    To win a set
Suarez Navarro v Kvitova (Doha 1230)
    Kudermatova v Bencic (Doha 1400)
    Yastremska v Kenin (Doha 1400)
    Tomljanovic v Muguruza (Doha 1530)

I’m also backing Bertens to win Doha @ 9/1 w Paddy Power. Good form, good draw, question marks over the other favourites (the most dangerous of whom meet each other before theyd play Bertens) She was very solid against a decent Muchova in round 1 and I think she’s the best bet here.

    Champions League Bets

    Chelsea v Byern Munich

You can always expect goals in Bayern games, especially in the Champions League – they have averaged 4.5 goals per game in the six CL matches so far this season and I don’t expect that to change against a Chelsea team who always look likely to score and concede. Chelsea should at least manage a goal and it wouldn’t surprise me to see 4 or 5 goals – It’s a tempting 7/2 for there to be over 4.5 goals scored in this evenings clash.

In terms of goalscorers, it’s hard to look much further than Robert Lewandowski. At 31 years of age he doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. He is the top scorer in the competition after bagging an incredible 10 goals in six matches during the group stage and avarages a goal a game in the German Bundesliga.

Unsurprisingly, he’s at the incredibly low price of 1/2 to score at any time during this match and that’s a bit short for me. Instead I’m inclined to look at shots on target. In this years CL the Pole has managed 18 shots on target in 5 games which is an avarage of 3.6 per game. In this years Bundesliga his avarage is somewhat lower at 2.12 but still high enough to warrant some serious confidence that he can continues this rich vein of form against a Chelsea side who have conceded 9.7 shots per game in this seasons CL matches.

Lewandowski 2+ shots on target @ Evens, Skybet/Betfair (NAP)

Lewandowski 3+ shots on target @ 11/2, Betfair (NB)

Byern Munich to win & BTTS @ 9/4, Ladbrokes

Looking at the weekends fixtures and something just tells me this is the game Liverpool finally drop points again. They aren’t firing on all cylinders since coming back from the winter break, and Watford usually give most teams a right good game live on tv at vicarage road. I think they will also see this as an opportunity to gain points on everyone else around them as no one else has picked up points from Liverpool. I think since Pearson was appointed manager they have lost once at vicarage road where they threw away a 2 goal lead to Everton. The DC at 2/1 bet 365 appeals. Not one to go mad on obviously but for me I think it’s worth a go and I’ll be having a point on it. Again it’s just a hunch (before the Liverpool appreciation society jump down my throat) but I’ve watched all 3 games since the winter break and there just seems to be something missing at the moment.

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions. I just can’t bet against my own team, even if they were playing the kids. I also can’t wish you luck if you do decide to go with Watford. But just imagine if your prediction becomes true??

    • Avatar of mark edley
      maccathered 5 years ago

One thing for sure about this game is it will be more open than usual as Watford don’t know how to defend (just look at what Man Utd did to them) and we all know when teams attack Liverpool they struggle, looks like Liverpool have taken the foot off the gas a bit and who can blame them.Looking at last nights game what was evident was there was no Henderson or Milner one of which should be back for the weekend game, always worth backing a outsider double chance as you never know.

    • Avatar of Fkb56
      Fkb56 5 years ago

Interesting observation Sean. Plus, Liverpool can afford to drop points and still win the championship.

    • Avatar of Sean Campbell
      sean567 5 years ago

Henderson looked a big miss last night. hell never be the most skillfull midfield player in the world or have the best passing or assist stats but he is a vital cog in the machine. He just refuses to accept second best and drives them on. His face last night at 2-1 down told a story and that was just on the sidelines. Him being missing is part of the reason I think Watford have slightly more chance than I would normally give them.

    • Avatar of mark edley
      maccathered 5 years ago

Milner will be back so he’s a good replacement for Henderson,Liverpool love playing Watford and given their poor form i will be on goals again for that game.Liverpool to win 1-4 that’s my prediction.

    • Avatar of El Gooner

United only won because Foster had an awful game. Man united aren’t equipped to win if they go a goal behind.

Why can’t Liverpool go unbeaten???because West Ham scored two goals. That’s not the plan or wasn’t the plan winning the league was the objective and winning it at Everton would be the icing on the cake and i reckon that’s what they will do.

Can’t see Liverpool going the season unbeaten, that is the hallmark of a really remarkable team, which is why only one team has managed it in the Premier league’s 27yr history, The Invincibles.

I don’t think anyones berating me al, I knew it would be an unpopular tip for most (especially the Liverpool fans) but its just a gut feeling I have with all the factors surrounding the game. It could of course go horribly wrong and Liverpool could run out easy 5-0 winners and if they do ill hold my hands up to it being a duffer, but something just tells me Watford can nick a draw. As well as the 1pt on Watford DC @2/1 im on 1-1 as well for 0.2 pts @9/1 also bet 365

    • Avatar of Andrew Cattini

That Arsenal team were a great attacking side but they were not a patch on the current Liverpool side. Liverpool win. They’re not all precious about being unbeaten. They take risks to win matches. Points are more valuable than staying unbeaten.

Arsenal were more the win/draw double chancers in my opinion then invincibles.

When they had to win (as opposed to staying unbeaten) they got beaten by Chelsea in the Champions League and knocked out.

If Liverpool stay unbeaten then it’s a great achievement and one that far exceeds Arsenals but I don’t think they will really be that bothered.

Napoli has not lost a home CL match since Manchester City won back in 2017 (W5, D2) since, while I am tempted to go for a home win I think Napoli with a goal head start looks nailed on (Napoli double chance win or draw is the same price) at 1.6 or even better is Napoli + 0.25 goals on the Asian handicap markets at 10/11.

    • Avatar of cp007
      cp007 5 years ago

The sky assessment was quite straight forward in that they awarded points for specific trophies etc and judged it on that
Personally I think football can sometimes have a lot of luck involved in it and some teams were great on the eye but never got the breaks
The two teams I have watched that stand out are Man Utd in the late 90s – the midfield quartet for example – and the Liverpool team of 88-90 – who don’t forget achieved what they did against a backdrop of Hillsborough – they could well have won 3 titles in a row – who knows. They also didn’t rank very well with sky as there was no Europe on offer

Arsenal with Henry etc were a fabulous team to watch but did draw a lot of games and that lack of European success was a real miss – they were very unlucky to not beat Barcelona in the champ league final as I recall

A great theoretical debate to have though

One tip from me – anyone with BT should watch the jimmy greaves film, what a player he was and some great footage there

Not remotely sports related. But you can still get 11/13 on Bernie Sanders to be the Democratic Party nominee, and that seems a cracking price to me. No candidate from either party in American History has ever won all of the first three opening contests before. The next favourite is Michael effing Bloomberg, who has been dismantled in every debate but is doing his best to buy his way there, but is so unelectable (especially going up against fellow establishment supporting billionaire Trump) it’s ridiculous. The only way he can lose at this point is if he’s cheated by the Democratic Party (always possible!)

    • Avatar of Wilson
      Ad 5 years ago

They absolutely have been slandering him, since before he was robbed of the nomination in 2016, and they attempt to portray him and his supporters as crazy, sexist fascists. The difference between him and Corbin though, is that while they’re both anti-establishment politicians, the majority of the population actually like Saunders, and sees through these ludicrous smears. There is less legitimate basis on which to attack his character than with Corbyn, and he isn’t hamstrung policy wise like Corbyn was by Brexit.

You are starting to see a shift in coverage of Bernie as of yesterday, eg with the apparently left wing but ruthlessly anti-Bernie MSNBC apologising for comments for the first time and stating their intention to give fairer coverage to him. The establishment media is finally taking its head out of the sand and coming to realise that he is actually popular and imminently electable, and they will start to side with him more and more so they actually have an audience left if and when he wins the nomination. Anti-trump + Anti Bernie isnt going to work business wise!

Just a quick comment on the Liverpool best ever side in the history of English football nonsense, yes they have been very good this season but very good when the other 19 teams including Man City have been very poor does not make you the greatest ever. The year Liverpool win the top treble Champs lg/Prem lg/FA cup then we can have this debate.Liverpools dominance in the Prem lg this year is not down solely to how brilliant they have been, how absolutely awful the rest have been has been a major contributor. Expect macca the scouse to come back spitting feathers now. Hey,Hey,Hey…Calm down,Calm down!!!!!!!!!

The other teams have been poor but mainly against each other and they’ve taken points off each other but 26 wins from 27 slaughters every team in every year. The games I’ve seen Man U were pretty decent in both games against Liverpool, city were good, spurs were good, wolves were good, they just weren’t good enough.

Sort of agree with that liverpool have been brilliant but like ya said everyone else had been terrible, united/chelsea/arsenal not half the team they once was, Tottenham nowhere near the team they was a season or 2 ago and city useless aswel, its impossible to compare this liverpool team with the great arsenal united sides of the past, in my opinion though they are nowhere near, just my opinion

I have no bitterness against Liverpool, have enjoyed watching them play, their manager is a joy and only wish United had got him as he is a breath of fresh air, love the scouse sense of humour but just stating the obvious that a large part of the reason that they have ran away with the title and remain unbeaten is how poor the rest have been.

One that I like doing recently is team corners in first half for good odds. Took over 3 Liverpool corners for 9/10 and they had 7. I’d say the hammers odds for 1st half corners were even higher, they got 6.
    For tonight I’m taking:
Bayer over 2 corners in 1st half
Chelsea over 1 corner in 1st half
Napoli over 1 corner in 1st half

The NAP & NB both land thanks to Lewandowski. Both bets should’ve been done and dusted in the first half but for a few poor through balls. Nevertheless he managed to get his 3rd shot on target in the 73′ to land the the decisive 3 shot on target.

Chelsea had their chances to score but they really lack a quality striker with the positional nouse to get the goals – thought Abraham was poor tonight.

    Well done all winners!

Lewandowski 2+ shots on target @ Evens, Skybet/Betfair (NAP) ***WON**✅

Lewandowski 3+ shots on target @ 11/2, Betfair (NB) ***WON***✅
