Fridays Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the Euros and there’s 2 teams I feel that will be too good for their opponents and grab all 3 points.
Sweden vs Slovakia
🇪🇺 Euro 2020
⏰ Friday 18th June, 14:00
Fridays action kicks off with Sweden playing Slovakia in Saint Petersburg in group E. Both sides made impressive starts with Sweden earning a draw against group favourites Spain and Slovakia shocking Poland to earn all 3 points.
Sweden come into this holding the Spaniards to a 0-0 draw in Seville. Sweden put in an excellent defensive display to frustrate the Spaniards to keep a clean sheet and could’ve even won it on another day. Sweden know a win here would put them in a superb position to qualify and I expect them to be more attacking and dominate against the groups lowest ranked side. Such is Sweden’s strong defensive record, they may only need a solitary goal for the win.
Slovakia come into this recording a brilliant 2-1 win over Poland. Many fancied Robert Lewandowski & co’s Poland but Inter’s centre back Milan Skriniar fired home the winner. However it’s worth noting Slovakia did get a fair bit of fortune as their opener came via an own goal and midway through the 2nd half at 1-1, Poland’s Gregorz Krychowiak got a second yellow. Slovakia do struggle defensively though as keeping clean sheets is not their strong point. They will also find it tough to breach Sweden’s solid defence as Slovakia ain’t the most prolific scorers.
England vs Scotland
🇪🇺 Euro 2020
⏰ Friday 18th June, 20:00
Two rivals meet at Wembley on Friday night as England host Scotland. England started off claiming all 3 points against Croatia whereas Scotland suffered a disappointing 0-2 defeat at Hampden.
Last time out England secured a comfortable enough 1-0 win over 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia. Croatia didn’t really look like scoring against an England side that looked as if it could go up another gear or two. England have plenty of attacking talent to choose from and Harry Kane in particular will be licking his lips coming up against that Scotland defence. Also, defensively, England have been strong at the back and have regularly kept clean sheets in recent times.
Scotland come into this suffering a really disappointing 0-2 defeat. Scotland even had home advantage but that didn’t stop them suffering defeat. Scotland could’ve scored but lacked a clinical edge and they didn’t help themselves with some poor defending and goalkeeping. Steve Clarke got the team all wrong and it remains to be seen what team he goes for here. His loyalty to certain players and stubbornness will likely prove to be his downfall once more.
Bet of the Day
Both Sweden and Slovakia made impressive starts in their first games but I’m backing the extra quality of the Swedes to be good enough for them to grab all 3 points. Scotland will be fired up against ‘the auld enemy’ but I just can’t see them avoiding defeat against a side technically and tactically superior to them.
- Sweden to win
- England to win
