Tuesdays Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the Champions League qualifiers and two sides who are both at home and whom I fancy to win and seal their place in the play off round.
Benfica vs Spartak Moscow
🇪🇺 UEFA Champions League
⏰ Tuesday 10th August, 20:00
Benfica host Spartak Moscow at the Estádio Da Luz in the 2nd leg of this 3rd round qualifier. Benfica have the advantage as they won 0-2 in Moscow last week.
Benfica kicked off their league campaign with a 1-2 win away to Moreirense at the weekend despite playing the majority of the 2nd half with 10 men. Benfica are traditionally strong at home, winning 12 of their 17 league games at the Estádio Da Luz last season, losing just twice. Benfica were unbeaten in their four home Europa League games last season, scoring an impressive 11 times.
After suffering a loss in the first leg, Spartak followed that up with another loss, this time in the league at home to newly promoted Olimpiyets. That’s now 3 defeats in 4 competitive games so far this season which is rather concerning. Spartak Moscow are winless in their last 7 Champions League away games losing 6 which includes a 2-0 defeat to their opponents 9 years ago.
Rangers vs Malmö
🇪🇺 UEFA Champions League
⏰ Tuesday 10th August, 20:00
Rangers host Malmö at a packed out Ibrox in the second leg of this 3rd round qualifier. Malmö currently hold the advantage as they won the first leg 2-1 in Sweden last week.
After defeat in Sweden, Rangers lost their 40 game unbeaten run in the league on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat at Tannadice. Rangers won their first game of the season at home to Livingston and won all 19 league games at Ibrox last season. Rangers won 4 of their 6 home games in Europe last season, with their only defeat coming in a controversial last 16 tie with Slavia Prague.
After victory last week, Malmö could only draw 0-0 away to Halmstad at the weekend, although did rest some of their key players. Despite qualifying in the two previous rounds, Malmö did not win either of their away games to both Latvian and Finish champions Riga and Helsinki respectively who are less superior than the Scottish champions.
Bet of the Day
Benfica were superior to their Russian opponents in the first leg and should complete the job by defeating Spartak Moscow once more. Despite Rangers losing their last two games, I see them bouncing back and defeating Malmö. Rangers will be backed by a full house of just over 50,000 and I’m sure the Rangers players will thrive off the electric atmosphere.
- Benfica to win
- Rangers to win
