The Philadelphia Union will look to potentially go top of the Eastern Conference table in the early hours of Sunday morning as they welcome playoff-chasing Chicago Fire to Subaru Park in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Bradley Carnell’s hosts have fired in 44 goals across their opening 27 MLS matches this term, with 30 (68%) coming in front of their supporters.
The Union have failed to score in just one of their opening 14 MLS clashes on home soil – notching on multiple occasions in nine of their past 10 – and will look to keep up their excellent goal-scoring run of form at home against a Chicago defence that has recorded a solitary clean sheet on their travels this term, shipping 26 goals.
Gregg Berhalter’s visitors have scored 50 goals across their opening 26 clashes in the MLS this campaign, with a league-high 33 (66%) of them coming on their travels.
The Fire have found the back of the net in all 13 (100%) of their away matches in the MLS this term – notching 2+ goals in 10 (77%) of them – and will look to continue their extraordinary goal-scoring record away from this season against a Union backline that has recorded a solitary shutout across their previous MLS contests on hold soil.

The Union’s opening 14 fixtures in the MLS at home this campaign have averaged 3.21 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in 10 (71%) of them – including in eight of their last 10 – whilst seven of their previous eight have seen goals at both ends (2-2, 3-2, 3-3, 2-1, 2-0, 2-1, 3-1 & 1-1).
The Fire’s opening 13 MLS matches on the road have averaged a ridiculous 4.54 Goals per game, with Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals landing in 12 (92%) of them, and I’m expecting the goals to flow in Pennsylvania in the early hours of Sunday morning.
