Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the World Cup Qualifiers and League 1. I’ve picked a selection from the European qualifiers and one from League 1 and that gives us a nice odds against double.

Ipswich Town vs Oxford United

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 League 1

⏰ Saturday 13th November, 15:00

Two sides who’ll be targeting promotion come the end of the season meet at Portman Road as Ipswich Town host Oxford United. Ipswich are currently 9th in League 1, four points behind their opponents Oxford who currently sit in 6th occupying the final playoff spot.

Ipswich came from behind to defeat high flying Wycombe Wanderers 1-4 in their last League 1 fixture. After failing to win any of their opening six fixtures, Ipswich have won six of their last 10 matches, losing just twice. The Tractor Boys are the leagues top scorers with 34 goals and are one of only two sides to have scored in every league game. However, Ipswich have struggled defensively so far this season, conceding 25 times and keeping just one clean sheet. Both sides to score has landed in 13/16 of Ipswich’s games this season including in 7/8 at home.

Oxford defeated Morecambe 3-1 at home in their last League 1 fixture, which now makes it five wins in their last six league matches. Oxford are one of League 1’s top scorers so far this season with them scoring 26 times. Oxford have only failed to score twice this season and have scored in each of their last seven fixtures. Oxford have only managed three clean sheets in League 1 this season and are yet to keep one on their travels. Both sides to Score has landed in 11/15 of Oxford’s games this season including in 5/6 away.

🇲🇪 Montenegro vs Holland 🇳🇱

🇪🇺 World Cup Qualifier

⏰ Saturday 13th November, 19:45

Holland will be looking to move a step closer to qualifying for next years World Cup as they travel to Podgorica to take on Montenegro at the Stadion pod Goricom. Holland come into matchday nine top of Group G, two points above Norway. Montenegro are in 4th position on 11 points and are already eliminated.

Montenegro’s hopes of qualifying for next years World Cup were ended last time out as they were defeated 2-0 by Norway in Oslo. Montenegro have collected 11 points in qualifying so far, with 10 of those points coming against both Gibraltar and Latvia, the two sides below them in Group G. Montenegro have lost both games with Norway and the reverse fixture with Holland, failing to score in all three defeats and conceding seven goals in the process.

Holland lost their group opener to Turkey but have since taken 19 points from their next seven group matches. They comfortably dispatched minnows Gibraltar 6-0 last time out to make it four wins in a row, in which they scored 17 goals and conceding just the once. Holland have won all five games against sides 4th and below in Group G without conceding, including a 4-0 win over Montenegro in Amsterdam.

Bet of the Day

Both Ipswich and Oxford are two of the highest scorers in League 1 so far this season and have scored 60 goals between them, with Ipswich scoring in every game and Oxford only failing to score twice. Whilst both of these sides score plenty, they do struggle defensively and have only kept six clean sheets in their 31 combined matches. Given the amount of goals both these sides score and their lack of clean sheets, I’m expecting goals at Portman Road, with both sides getting on the scoresheet. Should Norway beat Latvia as expected, Holland will kick off in Podgorica in 2nd spot and a point behind the Norwegians, therefore know the importance of leaving Montenegro will all three points. Louis Van Gaal’s side come into this in excellent form, winning their last four group matches, scoring 17 goals. They should defeat a Montenegro side they defeated 4-0 in Amsterdam and who tend to struggle against the stronger nations.
