Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to Asia and there’s one fixture in the K League 1 in particular that appeals to me for goals.
Gangwon FC vs Daegu FC
?? K League 1
⏰ Wednesday 10th August, 11:30
Two teams currently positioned outside the top half of the K League 1 table meet at the Chuncheon Songam Stadium, as seventh-placed Gangwon plays host to ninth-placed Daegu.
Gangwon’s struggles away from home continued last time out, as they were defeated 2-1 by third-placed Pohang Steelers. However, Choi Yong-Soo’s men are a different side at home, with their memorable 2-1 victory over perennial title-challengers Jeonbuk Motors in their last home fixture now means they’ve won four and drew one of their last five in front of their own supporters. Gangwon have found the back of the net in 18 of their last 20 K League 1 matches, including in each of their last 11. The Kodiaks are the fourth-highest scorers in the Korean top-flight, with 18 of their 34 goals coming in their last eight outings. Gangwon have recorded just five shutouts from their opening 25 league fixtures, with just one of those coming in their last 12.
Despite netting an 86th-minute equaliser, Daegu suffered late heartache last time out, as they conceded on the 93rd minute to lose 2-3 at home to Incheon United. Alexandre Gama’s side remains the only team in the Korean top-flight yet to win away from home, but they come into this having drawn seven of their last eight on their travels. Daegu have found the back of the net in 17 of their last 18 in the league, including in each of their last nine on their travels. Daegu have recorded a solitary clean sheet on the road so far this season – with that coming at the start of April – letting in 20 goals in their 12 away fixtures.
Bet of the Day
Both Gangwon and Daegu are currently positioned in the bottom half of the K League 1 table and the two will know a win here is pivotal if they wish to finish in the top six. Choi Yong-Soo’s hosts have found the back of the net in 18 of their last 20 league fixtures, scoring 18 goals in their last eight and will be confident of breaching a Daegu defence that’s kept just one clean sheet on their travels so far this season.
Daegu themselves have found the back of the net in 17 of their last 18 tussles in the Korean top-flight, including in each of their last nine on their travels and they too will be confident of breaching a Gangwon defence that’s kept just one clean sheet in their last 12. Given nine of Gangwon’s last 10 league outings have saw at least three strikes, as well as each of Daegu’s last four, there’s a good chance we’ll see over 2.5 goals land once more here with both sides contributing.
