Tursday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the English Championship. I’ve picked a side in good form to defeat their struggling opponents on home turf.
Nottingham Forest vs Barnsley
??????? Championship
⏰ Tuesday 25th January, 19:45
Nottingham Forest will look to close in on the playoffs, as they host a struggling Barnsley side at the City Ground. Forest come into this in 8th, just four points outside the playoffs, whilst the visitors are bottom, nine points adrift from safety.
Nottingham Forest will come into this full of confidence, following their 2-1 win over Derby County on Saturday in the East Midlands derby. Steve Cooper’s side have now won five of their last seven in the Championship, losing only twice in their last 13. Forest have been in decent form at home in recent months, losing just one of their last seven, as well as winning three of their last four at the City Ground. The Tricky Trees have been defensively sound in recent weeks, with them conceding just six goals in their last nine in the Championship.
Barnsley suffered yet another defeat at the weekend there, as lost 2-1 against a Birmingham City side that had not won in the league since the end of November. That loss was Barnsley’s 15 league defeat this season, with Poya Asbaghi’s side failing to win any of their last nine Championship matches. Barnsley have collected just four points on their travels this season, with the Tykes losing eight of their last nine away, including each of their last three. Barnsley are the lowest scoring side in the Championship, finding the back of the net just 17 times in their opening 25 matches.
Bet of the Day
Not only do these two sides sit at opposite ends of the table, but they come into this fixture in contrasting form. Forest can go within one point of Huddersfield Town in sixth with a win and will target three points against a Barnsley side already looking as if they’ll be playing in League 1 next season. Steve Cooper’s side have won five of their last seven in the Championship, as well as three of their last four at home and I fully expect them to collect all three points against a Barnsley side that’s winless in their last nine and have collected just four points on their travels this season. Forest have been far better defensively under Cooper, conceding just six goals in their last nine and with the Tykes being the lowest scorer’s in the Championship, I’m happy to add in under 4.5 goals alongside a home win.
