Wednesday Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on go from the German Bundesliga and the Belgian Pro League. I’ve picked a selection from each league which should see goals to give us a nice odds against double.
Zulte Waregem vs Union St Gilloise
?? Pro League
⏰ Wednesday 15th December, 17:45
Two sides at opposite ends of the Pro League table meet at the Elindus Arena as Zulte Waregem host Union St Gilloise. The hosts come into matchday 19 in the relegation play off spot and two points from safety. The visitors, on the other hand, sit top and are four points clear of current champions Club Brugge.
Zulte Waregem come into this losing their last two matches, away to both Club Brugge and Anderlecht. While it may only be one win in their last seven, it did come in their last home match, defeating bottom side Beerschot Wilrijk 2-0. That 3-0 defeat to Club Brugge last time out was only the second time Zulte have failed to score in the league this season, with the other coming in the reverse fixture at home to Club Brugge. Zulte Waregem have scored 27 goals so far this season and have scored two or more in six of their last seven home games. Zulte do have the worst defensive record in the league though, conceding 41 goals in their opening 18 matches.
Union St Gilloise defeated Mechelen 2-0 last time out to make it eight wins in their last nine in the league. Remarkably, Union scored at least twice in all eight of those victories, with them also scoring three or more in five of them. It therefore comes as no surprise that Union St Gilloise are the top scorers in the Pro League, with 25 of their 45 goals scored coming away from home. Union do concede on the road though, keeping only three clean sheets in their nine away matches, with one of those coming against the bottom and lowest scoring side, Beerschot Wilrijk.
Bayer Leverkusen vs Hoffenheim
?? Bundesliga
⏰ Wednesday 15th December, 19:30
Two sides separated by just one point and one place meet each other at the Bay Arena as Bayer Leverkusen host Hoffenheim. The visitors currently occupy the final Champions League spot in 4th, whereas the hosts are in 3rd, four points behind Borussia Dortmund in 2nd.
Despite racing into a two goal lead through a Patrik Schick double, Leverkusen were thumped 5-2 by Eintracht Frankfurt. That was their first defeat in five Bundesliga matches, with it also ending a three match winning run. Only league leaders Bayern have outscored Leverkusen so far this season, with them scoring 37 goals in their 15 matches, with 12 of them coming in their last three. Leverkusen do concede goals though, conceding 24 goals so far this term, with them also keeping just one clean sheet in their last eight Bundesliga matches.
Chris Richards scored a 94th minute winner away to Freiburg last time out, to leapfrog above their opponents into fourth. That late winner kept up their great form, with them winning each of their last four Bundesliga matches, scoring 13 goals. In fact, only the three sides above them in the league have scored more goals than Hoffenheim, with them scoring 32 goals in their opening 15 matches. Despite scoring plenty of goals, Hoffenheim also scored concede plenty, particularly on the road, where they’ve conceded 16 goals in their eight away games, keeping only two clean sheets.
Bet of the Day
League leaders Union St Gilloise come into this in great form, winning eight of their last nine matches in the Pro League, scoring an eye catching 26 goals. They are also the leagues top scorers and they’ll be looking forward to playing against the divisions leakiest defence. Despite this, Zulte Waregem do score goals themselves and have scored 2+ in six of their last seven home games. Both sides are far stronger going forward than they are at defending and I can see both sides to just try and out score each other. Both sides are likely to score and that should lead us to over 2.5 goals. Both Leverkusen and Hoffenheim are inside the top four in the table and also amongst the top four highest scorers in the Bundesliga. Given that Leverkusen are at home and that Hoffenheim are one of the form clubs in Germany at the moment, we should see plenty of goals, especially with both teams rather weak defensively. Both sides are likely to find the back of the net here and that should lead us to over 2.5 goals being scored.
