I was recently asked by Mark OHaire from @Welovebetting to take part in their “Ask the experts” series and one of the questions asked was if I had any advice for punters looking to try and find an edge, and it got me thinking.
If I was only able to give one piece of advice regarding betting it would be centred around finding a niche, finding a league or a market and becoming an expert on it, make that your speciality, be the go to person when it comes to certain markets and leagues or even a team.
Punters probably make the mistake of casting their net far and wide, having a little knowledge about lots of leagues when they could turn it on its head and focus their efforts on building up a solid understanding of a handful of leagues. Get to know the teams, the data, the trends, identify the go to teams for the markets you like to bet on.
When I think about my own betting experiences, I target the same leagues week in and week out, I don't' need to look through 200 games on a Saturday as I know I'm going to be fo on the Scottish leagues and even then I'm not having to look through 21 games as I know the teams to be backing and the teams not to be backing.
The Mr Fixit betting community is a terrific platform for people to share their tips and we have a number of contributors who specialise in niche leagues and markets and I'm keen to hone in on that and get a view of where people feel their knowledge and expertise sits
Where is your area of expertise?
- Is there a league or country you specialise in?
- Is there a certain market you concentrate on?
- Is there a team you always back, and why?
Leave a comment below and I'll pull together a summary of what our favourite leagues and markets are
My betting history suggests I specialise at none ?? but these days I look more towards Italian Seria C for team goals and BTTS markets,Carrarese in particular regularly deliver at both ends
For corners Man City,Ajax,Celtic & Rangers consistently hit good numbers at home. Celtic & Rangers good for handicap corners due to domination in most home outings
Al Sadd & Al Hilal always worth a punt to win and concede in the Result & BTTS market
Thanks for sharing Mr H ??
Great Idea Greg. I know there are a few on site whose tips based on their teams knowledge I always look out for. For one, yours on the Scottish reserves. Also forget his username but the Wolves fan is a really great poster. always spot on and never blinkered by his heart. Very hard to do.
Wouldn’t say Im an expert by any means but the italian u19 league is something I take a keen look at every week. Especially Roma u19. Great consistency for goals at both ends.
I watch a lot of footy and If I stumble across a team that I enjoy to watch then I tend to follow them for a while and bet on them accordingly. Atalanta are a good example. Fantastic team to watch and never alter their gameplan, attack, attack!
One market I always look at is btts in both halves. Have had some success picking certain games out at really big odds which is always great when it comes in.
Anyways great idea mate?
Just to clarify, im not an expert by any means. Just throwing my input into the ring ?
Great input mate – thanks for sharing ??
Nice idea Greg – digging out those niche markets in the more obscure leagues is defnitely the way to find some of the best value!
Here’s 10 that have seen me well down the years:
10. Liverpool/Man City corners lines – probably the least niche and most mainstream pick but by christ has it been consistentthe last 2 seasons.
9. Costa Rica – any game to see btts and overs will always have a great chance at between evens and 15/8
8.NILF – NI Ladies – a huge chasm of quality between established and newly promoted sides to the Prem = goals counts often hitting double figures.
7. National League North – btts accas all day long and I’d include Billericay from the South and give them an honororary Northern place!
6. Chile – Btts 1st half – great value at between 12/5 and 3/1…happens more than you’d think!
5. Paraguay – alas, Cerro’s value days have come and gone (like Wilstermann in Bolivia) but a great league for goals with btts and overs a cracking bet in the Asuncion derbies.
4. Bolivia – handicap bets for Bolivar/The Strongest at home in La Paz. Close monitoring of the in-year form can lead to some amazing value goals bets/upsets for those new to the top flight who tend to do very well.
3. NZ Youth goals – still the best league for goals by a country mile but value and markets largely gone.
2. Icelandic Youth/4 Deild games – goals in general and btts both halves if you can get it.
1. Iceland – btts 2nd half, Valur corners but best of all late goals in play – lost count of the amount of games that have seen 2-3+ goals in the last 15 minutes!
Best of luck Greg and all ?
Fantastic Hull – some terrific pointers there ??
It’s great info – for me I can have favourite leagues and favourite teams but it can all down to who they are playing on the day and how they are playing.
I know we have a lean spell ahead of us (though I’m enjoying the Nicaraguan Youth and Table Tennis ?) so more time than we usually have to pool our resources and collective knowledge.
Something I’d mentioned to admin last year was around building up a ‘fan database’ based on who follows which side(s) closely.
The rationale would be simple – to draw upon real fan knowledge of form/team news, etc…especially the lower down the tiers you go or further afield.
So, if your fancying Derby in a game, you’d look and see who follows Derby and attach the likes of @NathanUpton into your post.
Fancy Torquay but need a bit of insight? The likes of @BixieupNorth might be able to give you a nod in the right direction.
Great to add in the overseas followers as much as domestic and would be great for folk to navigate and direct their questions to the people who know best via notifications.
It’s something I agree with and when we get football back I’ll look at putting up a post where fans give thoughts solely on their own team.
? I’ll look forward to posting my thoughts on which cars Bury players are washing ???
Thanks@Greg for the insight …but for along time bin doing OVER for a while until I find value in UNDER…wait for it..Yes UNDER bt it will be under 1.5mg first half.where u can get two teams adding the odd of 1.3&1.35 (.1.75 )odd. Yeah it’s take time to master yo teams for under full time to convert it to ht half Unders..ever since I found this niche I have bin winning 8 /10..hope this can help folks to make money wen real football resume…sorry for grammar ?
Brilliant mate – some leagues definitely offer an opportunity on the unders markets, especially those that you mentioned
Look forward to seeing them ??
Plus don’t pick from unpredictable leagues like France ,German, England league. ..through enland national can be great.my gold mine league has been Greece, Tunisia , Morocco, Algeria, Iran.
As you have mentioned Greg some really great input on this site. The things I do is goals market’s to score 1 goal 4/7 or 4/11 over1.5 2/9 then check out btts 2+ gls say odds 8/15 &overs 2.5 at 4/6 so doubled or trebled up gives you between 6/4 to 2/1 + so my point is not to win at big odds and then play lottos at 50p a line and hopefully get a win off that & boost my balance up over the season & I only started doing this since I found this site & tbh I’m doing ok just my two penneth worth hope it helps someone so keep up the good work guys
I fell onto Mr F’s site when it was in its infancy to get an insight into Scotish football and have since learnt a hell of a lot more and have changed my methods since, I’m mostly “gentley, gentley, catch a monkey now, however, I’ve always followed the Enlish leagues 1 & 2 where alot of the sides don’t have strength in depth and a couple of injuries or suspensions can change a teams fortunes dramatically. By following this with the other info I go on the wdw market selecting teams at over evens, three singles and a treble which means one win gives a return of just over half stake, two a small profit and three around 16/1+. I have to bide my time for the right three matches which come around about (8-10 times a season). I know that market isn’t for everyone but the method of betting I find to be profitable.
Brilliant post Greg, i prefer betting on other peoples knowledge and tips so really good to see what others concentrate on and what markets they have found success in.
I hope a lot more people contribute to this post.
It is a great idea.
