I DIDN'T like Tuesday's card but hadn't reckoned on Bayer Leverkusen beating my Super Single at the first hurdle.

Team news suggesting their opponents Werder Bremen would be weakened tempted me to do a German Cup double on them and Borussia Dortmund but a first-half red card ended Bayer's hopes.

It was a strange night because form and stats didn't suggest a lot of goals but both teams scored in every UK match bar one – and unfortunately for Greg Browning the exception was Stirling v Montrose. That meant a winning and losing nap for Greg on the day despite seven goals at Forthbank – all to Albion and he did say Montrose couldn't defend on the road.

Tonight there is another FA Cup replay between Peterborough and West Brom and best bet could be goals. The Baggies are making noises about taking this seriously and if they do they should win.

But we know the Posh love a goal and with West Brom possibly down to three fit defenders there could be a few. James Chester, Cristian Gamboa and Sebastien Pocognoli could all start at the back with Jonny Evans, Chris Brunt, Gareth McAuley and Jonas Olsson all struggling with injury.

In the Scottish Premiership Ross County take on Hearts and both to score could also be the shout here. The Jambos have a good record against County but have three players banned and top scorer Osman Sow has now left for China. I'll post a separate preview on the game.

Elsewhere Valencia host Barcelona in the second leg of their Spanish Cup semi-final. It's a game boss Gary Neville could do without ahead of a what he brands “a must-win match” against Espanyol at the weekend.

Neville is still without a win in nine La Liga outings but until now has field strong sides in the cup – that won't be the case at the Mestalla with his men trailing 7-0 from a Nou Camp crushing.

Despite being seven goals to the good Barca have something to play for. Boss Luis Enrique's side equalled a club record of 28 matches unbeaten with Sunday's victory at Levante and they are keen to set a new benchmark.

Enrique was making the right noise about team selection but the squad has now been confirmed and it will be a reserve team he puts out tonight. I risked a Super Single on Barcelona -1 Asian Handicap last night but advised waiting for teams.

Now we know the squad I'll let you decide what to do but I won't take the bet down and it now pays 21-10 at bet365.

Bravo, Pique Sergio, Alves, Arda, Iniesta, Suarez, Messi, Neymar, Mascherano and Alba haven't travelled to Valencia. There are six Barca B players – Wilfrid Kaptoum, Sergi Samper, Dani Romera, Juan Camara and Gerard Gumbau – in the squad as well as Under-19 prospect Carles Alena.

First-teamers Ter Stegen, Masip, Douglas, Rakitic, Bartra, Munir, Sandro, Sergi Roberto, Adriano, Aleix Vidal, Vermaelen and Mathieu have also made the trip.

In the German Cup Bundesliga 2 side Heidenheim entertain Hertha Berlin and the top-tier men should edge it if they field a decent line-up. Same goes for Bayern Munich at another decent Bundesliga side Bochum – and Bayern have won on their last seven visits.
There are another four French Cup ties including Bordeaux v Nantes and PSG v Lyon. Amateurs Sarre-Union are the only minnows in action at home to Ligue One Lorient who are  2-5 with bet365.
PSG fielded a full side in the last round and have beaten Lyon three times this season so despite a Lyon revival I'm starting the treble with the runaway league leaders.
Add btts for Peterborough v West Brom and Ross County draw no bet against Hearts. The Jambos won in Dingwall in August but there missing players and County's good form suggests this is a tough trip for them.
I've put up St Etienne as a second Super Single at Ligue 2 basement boys Troyes who are really struggling. They haven't win at home in 13 league outings this season and face a Saints side who battered Bordeaux 4-1 on the road at the weekend.
St Etienne are without skipper Loic Perrin and striker Robert Beric as well Valentin Eysseric, Romain Hamouma and Nolan Roux but their opponents have more serious problems.
Troyes are 10 points adrift at the foot and without a manager. They sold some of their best players in the transfer window and are without banned midfielder Fabien Camus and striker Brayan Perea. Centre-backs Mahamadou N’Diaye, Mory Kone and Dusan Veskovac are injured.
This looks good on paper but it's a cup-tie and things don't always go to plan – as Monaco found out at Sochaux last night.

    Valencia v Espanyol Sat 13th 19:30
    ***** NAP
I watched the Espanyol v Sociedad game last night and Espanyols performance was genuinely one of the worst I’ve ever witnessed. I backed sociedad to score the next goal 3 times and they didn’t disappoint. Defensively Espanyol were a shambles, the performance of one of their CBs Ciani was embarrassing and I’d be shacked if he starts on Saturday night. If he is due to start I’ll be collecting my winnings on Friday night. They offered nothing in attack and without Caciedo they are toothless.
Much has been made of Valencias form and we all know what happened at the Nou Camp but barca could potentially do that to anyone at the moment. Valencia are genuinely hard to beat at the Mestalla, in fact they have only lost one home game all season. They need to start turning draws into wins and I think this is the perfect opportunity for them to take all 3 points. They have a better squad with the likes of Patti, Negredo, Rodrigo and Parejo. They won’t need to be near their best to beat this espanyol team and anything other than a win must spell the end for G Nev

Can’t understand Karankas decision not to start Rhodes again tonight!? You’ve just spent £10 million on a player, for a championship team that’s massive, get him on from the start, especially after winning 1 of your last 5 (now 6)!

  5. Jordan 8 years ago

Barca can a field a team of nine players and probably go through in Valencia but words on them wanting to break an unbeaten club record could persuade me otherwise. Messi is supposedly resting after a kidney op so doubt he’ll feature. But to me that says we’ll likely see Suarez or Neymar, or both, with Munir slid in where he can. There isn’t much going for Valencia or Gary Neville right now and you only have to look at a few of their quotes to realise they aren’t in a good place. Barca can extend their record with a draw but Barca don’t play for draws and Neville has forgotten how to pronounce ‘win’. I expect Barca to be able to grab a couple and to have this price against a team knowing they’ll have to score 8 goals without reply to turn the tie around, it’ll be interesting to see what effort the home side show.

Looks like mr f beat me to team news on west brom but now to my beloved peterborough united.

Posh team news: we have two key defenders suspended for this match after they were sent off against chesterfield (santos, Smith) Also are recent signing tom nichols is cup tied as he played for exeter against liverpool we also have a loanee from west brom adil nabi Inelgible and defender jack baldwin is 50/50.

because of all these looks like we will have midfilder harry beautyman filling in at right back And gaby zakuani could start at centre back even tho he has only played 15 minutes against chesterfield since the Beginning of november. Winger marcus maddison should start after missing the trip to chesterfield through illness also shaquile coulthirst will be playing our recent signing from tottenham who was looked at by alot of clubs and scored in the first match.

Most of our matches have seen over 2.5 goals this season and espically on tv we do love to see goals even tho we havent won a game on tv in the previous 6 matches!

Now to betting my heart says peterborough united double chance at 5/6 and also over 3.5 goals at 12/5 but would NOT BE advising this

I would certainly advise over 2.5 goals and very shocked at the bookies giving EVENS also i like shaquile coulthirst anytime scorer at 5/2

Did look at bengalaru to be winning at ht mate. Opposition conseeded goals in first half in last few games but i never place a full stake on a bet thats only got 45mins to win. May just pop a fiver on. Got 2 other bets already put up and ross county btts looks good.
Lorient 1.5 team goals looks solid just wanting something to double it up with to make evens and thats my day.

Understand your thinking for bengalaru however im a bit cautious seeing their recent form, look a little bit up and down!

Never normally do more than a treble but today I have a cheeky 5fold which I quite like giving 5.59/1 on bet 365. Only having a point on this.

    Barca – o1.5tgs
    Ross Hearts – o1.5mgs
    Juve u19 v fiorentina u19 – juve win
    PSG o1.5 tgs
    Bayern o1.5 tgs

Quite like it to be fair. Even if they field a weakened side they should still score 2. I’d expect 2 goals in the Ross game. Juve u19s are unbeaten and flying high. PSG generally cover the o1.5 and I see no reason why they won’t. Bayern should hit 2 past Bochum surely lol

valencia v barca,,valencia double chance @ 17/20 it would be ludicrous to think neymar or suarez will start this game both will be rested as most of the other stars, that why barca went for such a high score as they have arsenal away coming up in the champions league.

    • davisam 8 years ago

What did you make of the Hammers game last night?

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

macathered, as I said the only thing they have to play for is the unbeaten record but anyway you’re right – no Messi, Suarez and Neymar.

Several Barça B players — Wilfrid Kaptoum, Sergi Samper, Dani Romera, Juan Cámara and Gerard Gumbau — have been training with the first team this week and will make the trip south, along with Under-19 player Carles Aleñà. Those six will travel aling with twelve first team players: Ter Stegen, Masip, Douglas, Rakitic, Bartra, Munir, Sandro, Sergi Roberto, Adriano, Aleix Vidal, Vermaelen and Mathieu.

Rest has been granted to habitual starters Bravo, Piqué, Sergio, Alves, Arda, Iniesta, Suárez, Messi, Neymar, Mascherano and Alba.

  26. davisam 8 years ago

@MrFixit or anyone who knows – I had an inplay bet on Deportivo Morón last night but it was suspended with about 9 minutes to go due to floodlight failure. Is it correct that if the game isn’t replayed within 24 hours they’ll refund my stake back? If the game is replayed, will they void the 81mins played and start again or just play the remaining 9 minutes or so? Cheers in advance

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

davisam, depends on the bookie – and the rules of the country. Some leagues would play the last 9 minutes but others such as English and Scottish would start again.

    • davisam 8 years ago

Cheers. I got my stake back, pretty lucky tbh. Was 0-0 at the time and would have probably lost it had the lights not cut out. Phew!

    Peterborough vs West Brom

over 2.5 goals, West Brom corner match bet & over 2.5 cards 5.28/1 **NAP**

    Bet365

Based on how events unfolded at The Hawthorns I think this will be a good bet. I’d expect there to be at least three goals and with more of the inscisive play likely to come from West Brom they should win the corner match bet (they won it 4-2 at The Hawthorns) There was three cards issued in the first match but tonights is more important with regards to qualification as there are no more replays so I believe there could be a few rash challanges & sacrificial cards from both teams as they try to edge over the line into the next round.

Two games in the Ryman premier tonight that I’m interested in

Leatherhead v Hampton & Richmond borough

Hampton travel to mid table Leatherhead and are 11/10 to beat their hosts Hampton’s 8 straight wins thru December and January has helped them top the league, 2 defeats at the end of January have been followed by winning their last 2 and should be expected to win tonight, Leatherhead are 17/10 to win have lost their last 3 games but before that had one 6 on the bounce and will be no pushovers. H2h have seen Leatherhead win the last two 3-1 and 5-1 and so I’m expecting goals tonight Hampton have 22 games this season over 2.5 goals and Leatherhead have 18.

    Lewis v dulwich hamlet

Two team at opposite ends of the table here dulwich 1/2 to win Lewis 7/2 Dulwich have the 3rd best away record in the league and average 2 goals a game away from home, while Lewes are struggling they have only lost 1 of their last 6 homes games and I can see it not being straight forward for dulwich, Lewes double chance at 6/4 could be tempting but the safest bet is for goal and over 2.5 is the suggestion.

    Suggested bet

Both games over 2.5 match goal

    2pts double at 1.35/1

What’s peoples thoughts on the Betfair Accu Edge thingy they have just released?

    *******
Get your stake back in cash if one leg of your accumulator lets you down. In return you take a slight reduction in odds.

    Available on trebles and above

On all sports & markets including In-Play

No additional stake limits or minimum odds on selections
    *******

I’m tempted to start using them because of this..

    Any thoughts???

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

theboss, a lot of bookies are doing this now, although check terms and conditions.
If you’re regularly doing trebles and above it could be a good offer but I’d be careful about the reducing the odds part – I don’t like that bit.

    • theboss 8 years ago

      Mr F,

Yea that’s the bit that makes me wary how much of a drop in odds would there be!

If anyone has a betfair account can you let me us know by adding say a treble to your slip and post what the odds were and are after selecting Accu Edge option.

    • jacksonator 8 years ago

Treble of West Brom, Valencia and Hearts pays 21.6 under normal odds, but 15.99 under the Acca Edge thing

    • theboss 8 years ago

      Cheers Jacksonator….

I know the odds are down a bit but if it wins a those odds would be fine and if one let me down which normally does and i get it back in cash then Sweet!!

May have a little go using this see if it evens out after a while or i’m up after a while.

    • mister catnip 8 years ago

Acca Edge only cover one bet missed in acca over 3 selections and odds are massivley slashed but any refund of your stake is in cash rather than a free bet.

Talking of Acca Insurances, I used Coral’s version last weekend on a 6-fold and once team lost so they refunded me as a free bet, so when I placed a bet using my free bet I again used the acca insurance feature as it’s right there in your face on the bet slip…again one selection let me down but they did not pay out as I used a free bet…but does not mention this in the t&c’s and also it should not allow you to use the feature with a free bet. Let’s just say they won’t be getting anymore of my business….rant over!

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

jacksonator, has posted one – and it’s a big drop.
If you expect your line to win then you shouldn’t be looking at such a big difference.
McBookie and BetVictor for example do it with 5 teams. Odds are nor reduced but it’s 5 minimum.

    • dom77 8 years ago

This is a great idea. Good odds dont mean much if the bet fails when the inevitable early red card comes out.

    • sless1903 8 years ago

@theboss Acca Edge cuts the odds massively and in my opinion only suitable for high odds trebles and above. I do a lot of over 1.5 match goal trebles which vary from evens up to around 6/4. Using Acca Edge on an evens treble i entered tonight cuts the odds to approx 1/5!!!

    • theboss 8 years ago

      Ok that’s a huge drop!!

Segunda Liga side Portimonense face a trip to Primeira Liga side Maritimo in the Taça de Liga this evening in the hope of putting up another bold display against Primeira Liga opposition. Their last three matches in the competition have seen them unbeaten against higher ranked teams, beating Arouca, Sporting CP and Pacos de Ferreira scoring an impressive 9 goals. I’m taking them to find the net against Maritimo.

    – Maritimo have conceded in 10/12 Competitive home games this season
    – Portimonense have scored in 18/19 Competitive away games this season

Sticking with the cups this evening, my next pick comes in the game between 2. Bundesliga side Heidenheim and Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin. I think Hertha Berlin will have too much class for Heidenheim, especially going with a strong, attacking line up tonight and I’m taking them to net as well for the double.

    – Heidenheim have conceded in 7/10 Competitive home games this season
    – Hetha Berlin have scored in 11/13 Competitive away games this season (Failing against Wolfsburg and Bayern)

    My pick is:

    Maritimo No Clean Sheet
    Heidenheim No Clean Sheet

    Double pays 17/20 (Bet365)

I’m also having a small bet on both Portimonense and Hertha Berlin to scored over 1.5 team goals. The double is 8.37-1 on Bet365 and whilst a long shot has every chance. Good luck!

STURM GRAZ VS RED BULL SALZBURG

    ÖFB Cup tonight:

Two top teams in from the Austrian Bundesliga will battle it out in Graz, where the away team from Salzburg are favorites. But do the prize for an away win look tasty? I do not think so.

Franco Fodas boys bounced back from 2-0 to get one point last weekend against Altach, and they really showed how to play good football during the second half. Red Bull Salzburg got a narrow 2-1 win against Admira but they didn’t show top quality football and that’s the reason why I think that Sturm Graz do have great chances in tonight’s match.

Offenbacher (important defensive midfielder player) is doubtful but I think he will play. The young important defender Spendlhofer is out injured.

Red Bull Salzburg manager Oscar Garcia has never played against Sturm Graz and says that he only know the team from videos he has seen, but he’s aware of the importance of this cup tie. The visitors got an important win against Admira last weekend but as said, they didn’t show top quality. Top scorer Soriano scored and he could cause serious trouble on the field tonight. The best Salzburg player without any doubt.

With all that said, the visitors will miss the very important midfielder Keita (8 league goals), which means that Soriano and Damari in front have to work harder to create chances.

Cup games are the same in all countries. Hard to predict and sometimes we’ll be surprised with the resultes and tonight’s game at UPC-Arena in Graz (expected full house; approx. 15.000) is not easy to predict too.

This match could end up with lots of goals, but the two teams are aware of its importance and therefore I think that they will play more defensively and not try to push too hard to get forward. Both teams could score goals but I’m more into playing a draw.

    BET!

    Draw (X) – 3,60 – Bet365

    Expected line-ups:

Esser – Kayhan, Avlonitis, Kamavuaka, Lykogiannis – Lovric, Offenbacher/Jeggo – Schick, Stankovic, Klem – Edomwonyi

Walke – Schwegler, Caleta-Car, Miranda, Ulmer – Pehlivan – Minamino, Laimer, Berisha – Soriano, Damari.

    • wasclueless 8 years ago

Nice write up again! – as you say its a cup game but glad you mention goals as its Greg’s NAP!!

    • sandercao 8 years ago

To call ‘Over 2.5 goals’ his NAP could be dangerous.

As said, it’s a cup tie and I’m not sure that we’ll see more than 2-3 goals. Normally they would play high-scoring games but in this quarter-final, I’m afraid they prepare to stay well-organized defensively.

      I’m going for 1-1.

  45. wasclueless 8 years ago

    Munich taking the cup seriously
Neuer – Thiago, Lewandowski, Robben, Costa, Alonso, Lahm (K), Müller, Alaba, Badstuber, Kimmich
Last 4 goals they have scored came from Lewandowski (well apart from Alonso finding his own net!)
    Lewandowski 2+ @8/5
(thought about Muller ATGS + Bayern corners match bet at 0.8/1) … but will have a smaller punt at greater odds

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

wasclueless, maybe Bayern -2AH on that line-up.

    • wasclueless 8 years ago

MrF – yes possibly – tbh going easy on cup games – and not 100% on Bayern at the mo – rumoured discontent in the dressing room / are they playing for Pep etc etc

longshot trixie for me tonight – file under ‘stranger things have happened’ – Valencia, Peterborough and Ross Co to win……. around 34/1

  55. andrzejstarba 8 years ago

Right – Ive had a look at line ups and both Barcelona’s and Valencia’s defence looks crap to say the least. Vermaelen and Bartra should let in a goal or two and Valencia have Diallo in CB who has not played yet for Valencia so Valencia will concede against Barcelona. Valencia have the strong attacking 3 in Negredo, Paitti and Mina. I see goals in this game and Bet365 have BTTS and over 2.5 goals at 2.10 (11/10) which is great value I reckon.

    Can see both scoring.

    Good luck
