THE English season gets back underway today and Manchester City will be looking to fire out a warning by lifting the Community Shield.
Leicester City v Manchester City
The runaway Premier League champions have made a statement of intent by spending £100million on Jack Grealish.
And City are odds-on favourites to beat Leicester in the curtain-raiser at Wembley tonight.
The best price on Pep Guardiola’s men winning inside 90 minutes is 28/29 with SBK while the Foxes are 3/1 at the same firm.
Brendan Rodgers’ side memorably battered City 5-2 at the Etihad last term but that was something of a freak result.
Three of the last five meetings have ended in wins to nil for Guardiola’s side and that bet pays 13/5 with Betway.
Community Shield games are rarely classics with the last four stagings seeing under 2.5 goals.
We saw three goals when Leicester were last involved as they lost 2-1 to Manchester United back in August 2016.
But I can see this one being less exciting and under 2.5 strikes pays 14/19 with SportNation.
English Championship
There’s a full card in the EFL and it will be intriguing to see how Wayne Rooney’s Derby get on as they host Huddersfield.
The Rams only avoided the drop by the skin of their teeth last term and it has been a troubled summer with off-field strife and the gaffer in the papers for all the wrong reasons.
The bookies fancy Huddersfield to pile on the pain and they are SBK’s 16/19 favourites with Derby as big as 4/1 (Skybet).
The away win isn’t great value so I’m backing over 2.5 goals instead at 11/10 with McBookie.
League One
The latest season of Sunderland ‘Til I Sigh kicks off with the Black Cats still stuck in League One.
They begin with a tricky game at home to Wigan but I fancy boss Lee Johnson to whip the Mackems into shape this term.
Most firms have the Sunderland win at odds-on but it’s 42/41 at SBK.
