TUESDAY'S a day when a lot of the good work at the weekend could be undone. That's because Tuesday is League Cup day and we all know how unfriendly a tournament that is to punters.

We don't have much form or head-to-heads to look and we don't know which teams will be at full strength or even too bothered about a cup run.

For many clubs the league is the be-all and end-all and the Capital One Cup simply a distraction.

On nights like this it's tempting to throw in five, six or seven short-priced favourites against sides from lower leagues.

But I've had my fingers burned before so I'm not going to be greedy and am limiting myself to a treble although I may but up a both teams to score line when I get an idea about team news from certain games.

It's probably a good policy to go with homes because managers may feel a responsibility to fans to put out a half-decent side. One boss who hates to lose at anything is Billy Davies and the fact he also has a big squad with many new signings points me to them against Hartlepool.

Davies is looking at bringing in the likes of Dexter Blackstock, Marcus Tudgay and Radoslaw Majewski so we're talking decent quality. Forest started well enough with a narrow win against Huddersfield while Pools were well beaten at Rochdale so it should be a home win.

Next up I'm looking at Charlton at home to Oxford. The Addicks lost to Bournemouth at the weekend but reports suggest they played well and boss Chris Powell will be looking to bounce back with a win.

Oxford surprised Portsmouth at Fratton Park, scoring two late goals in a 4-1 success after the home side went down to 10 men. It was fine display but if Charlton have a strong side out they should be all right – and they key will be the strength of line-up.

My third pick is Bournemouth against Portsmouth simply because there will be a lot of pride at stake in this south-coast derby. Bournemouth find themselves in the unusual position of being two leagues above Pompey and will want to rub their faces in it.

Eddie Howe's side started life in the Championship with that defeat of Charlton and will be on a high while Pompey suffered a horror loss at home to Oxford.

Bournemouth skipper Tommy Elphick is available and new signings Ian Harte and Andrew Surman could start and others pushing for include striker Brett Pitman and highly-rated former Aberdeen winger Ryan Fraser. Portsmouth will be without midfielder Johnny Ertl who was red-carded against Oxford.

If they put out strong sides I'd be looking at the likes of Birmingham v Plymouth, Brentford v Dag & Red, Brighton v Newport and Millwall v Wimbledon but they key is to try to find teams or don't be until line-ups are revealed.

As far as shocks go any side that plays the bulk of their second string could be in trouble. Without seeing team news I'd consider Orient v crisis-hit Coventry – but it wouldn't consider that much of a surprise.

Bradford, who reached last season's final, will be eyeing another run and are a best 3-1 at Huddersfield with the likes of bet365, Paddy Power and William Hill.

I think going for a few outsiders in singles and doubles may be the best way to go tomorrow. We see a fair few ‘shocks’ in these matches and it seems a card where the favorites might ruins few accas.

The outsiders that interest me are Burton at Sheff U, Oxford at Charlton, Exeter at home to QPR, Torquay away to Swindon and on Wednesday Chesterfield at Leeds.

Out of these picks Burton and Oxford look the most likely both at 4/1. As already pointed out team news is all important but the likes of Rigg, Kitson, Potter and Smalley are very capable of nicking a goal or 2 at Charlton and with the shocks of last year can also see Burton nicking a goal at Sheff U, Billy Kee and new signing McGurk both quick cleaver strikers capable of getting the better of a rather sluggish United defence.

Of the faves Brentford, Bournemouth, Orient and Watford should do the job.

    Good luck all

Easy treble not much form or any clues ( i dont even think cup football should be this early in the season) so I won’t go in depth

    2. Brighton
    3. Brentford

    @ 1.86/1 £10 returns £28.63 with hills

Add Bournemouth to this list and that £10 returns £46.25 but is an extra risk

    Good luck fellow punters
