IT'S down to the serious business of qualifying for the Betway Premier League playoffs after Wes Newton and Simon Whitlock were relegated last weekend.

Darts' top players hit the stage in Sheffield then move on to Aberdeen next week and another night of thrilling action is expected.

I'm no expert on the arras but there are plenty of people out there who will be up decent tips and remember there have been loads of winning draws, at around 9-2 or 5-1, posted over the duration of the league.

First up tonight it's Dave Chisnall v Raymond van Barneveld with the big Dutchman 1-1 favourite with Betway and others.

Next it's an all-Scots clash between Peter Wright and Gary Anderson and while plenty of maximums will be expected I'll side with Ando who has been in cracking form this season.

League leaders is pretty short as usual to beat the third Scot Robert Thornton and should do so even though he let us down by being held 6-6 by Whitlock last week.

Phil Taylor has improved after a poor start and faces Adrian Lewis with this one being a possible draw shout.

Barney is back in action against Wright to round off the evening. They drew earlier in the campaign and it looks too close to call – although there first games may give us a pointer to this result.

There is tennis, ice hockey and basketball all day so put up your sports tips and chat here.

Event: Premier League Darts (Feb-May 22nd)
Date: Thur 10th April (Week 10 – Live on Sky Sports 2)
    Location: The Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield.

Following “judgement night” last week, we are now down to 8 players, following the departure of Simon Whitlock and Wes Newton, with all 8 players now pushing for that top 4 place over the next 6 Thursday night’s, before the semi-finals and final on May 22nd at the O2 Arena, in London.

After only two 6-6 draws in the first four weeks of the Premier League, there have been a remarkable 12/25 over the past five weeks, with two more last week, including Michael van Gerwen and Simon Whitlock’s match, that was priced as a 6/1 shot.

Although we live in a betting exchange era, it’s disappointing to see some firms are pinching a bit more % over-round in their 2-runner markets. 4/5 – 10/11 (1.9091) to name one example, has been a standard priced market for many years, where bookmakers are making the 4/5 shot a slight favourite, but there are firms frequently going in this example 4/5 – 9/10 (1.9). Even so, this is not to say we will still see value at one of the prices from time to time.

Raymond van Barneveld v Dave Chisnall

These two shared a 6-6 draw in the Premier League in early March, with Barneveld now having unbelievably drawn his last 5 matches, and goes in to the match as a general current evens (2.0) favourite.
Barney, who is currently in third position in the table, showed great character last week in fighting back from a 4-1 deficit, to come away with a point against Adrian Lewis, but only posted an 89 3 dart average.
Chisnall, who avoided elimination from the league last week with a pressurised 7-5 win over Wes Newton, with a 95 average, currently stands at 6th in the table, and needs to earn some vital points soon, to try and earn that top 4 position.
It wasn’t a big surprise to see 10 firms on oddschecker, pitch their total 180 market at O/U 7.5, with the under’s as a slight odds on favourite.
Having gone through several markets, the closest I got to recommending something, was Chizzy to have the higher average at 6/5 (2.2), but the vibes were not strong enough, so I’ll be swerving this match.

    Peter Wright v Gary Anderson

These two Scots only met last week, with Snakebite Wright digging deep when trailing 5-4, to come away with the two points in securing a 7-5 win.
Wright, who was noticeably using different slimline darts again from the week before, which I’ve no doubt helped him hit 4x 180’s, the most he’s achieved in any of the first 9 weeks of the league so far.
Anderson, whose partner Rachel had a baby boy the following day in Cardiff last week, banged in 5x 180 scores himself, on a night where it must have been difficult to give the match 100% concentration.
Skybet have gone up with an interesting 4.5 line with the match 180’s, but at 8/13 (1.6154) on the over’s, this is to short for me, and feel the 5/4 (2.25) O/5.5 with Spreadex is more acceptable, and was the only stand out bet I could point you towards.

Michael van Gerwen v Robert Thornton

With the league now down to 8 players, van Gerwen again, like last week, plays the bottom placed player to date, but only came away with a 7-5 win when the pair met in mid- February.
Mighty Mike, who currently tops the league, would have to have a dramatic slump for him not to finish in the 4 man play-offs over the next 6 nights, and only really came to life last week when trailing 6-2, to fight back to earn a 6-6 draw versus Simon Whitlock, who was highly motivated to finish his disappointing league campaign on a high.
That said, van Gerwen still returned a 103 average, although Thornton who had already qualified for the leagues next phase by the time he played Taylor in the final match of the night, wasn’t far away with a 99 average, but ran into an impressive Phil Taylor who defeated him 7-4.
Thornton still has time to recover from his now lowly 8th place, and I do like the look of the +3.5 legs H/cp at 4/5 (1.8) for The Thorn to secure 4 legs.

    Phil Taylor v Adrian Lewis

Lewis comfortably defeated The Power 7-3 in mid-February, but circumstances were very different then, and It doesn’t factor very high in my form study.
Taylor, who currently sits one place in the league table behind Lewis at 5th, was mighty impressive last week in beating Robert Thornton 7-4 with a 102 average, 3x 180’s, plus he spoke very positively following his victory.
Jackpot, who very surprisingly let his 4-1 lead slip last week against Raymond van Barneveld, only had a 90 average and 1x 180, and will need to pick up his game a great deal to get anything from this Stoke battle.
I expected to see Taylor at a shade odds on at best, and the evens (2.0) with the sponsors Betway is recommended here, although it’s worth keeping an eye on the Betfair market also to see if we can beat that. Thursday’s fixtures only went up late on Monday, and currently as I type, the market on Betfair is on the weak side.
The O/2.5 180’s market for Taylor was also seriously considered here at evens (2.0), which he has achieved 5/9 times in the league so far, but this was very marginal, and at the back of my mind was the fact that, Taylor has gone in to matches on the back of similar form and has then performed below par in this category, so this has now been left alone,

Raymond van Barneveld v Peter Wright

These two shared a 6-6 draw in late March, but with both these players playing in the opening two matches of the night, it’s difficult to access, not knowing how they will perform earlier in the night.
In the betting village on Oddschecker, there is currently a best price % of 103.16 available on the 3 match outcomes (11/8 Wright, 6/4 Barney and 15/4 the 6-6 Draw), and I’ll be using this match, together with their opening encounters as a form guide, to next week in Aberdeen.

    Recommended Bets

    Thur 10 April – Around 7.50pm (2nd match on) 6 points – Peter Wright/Gary Anderson O/5.5 match 180’s at 5/4 (2.25) with Spreadex.

    Around 8.30pm (3rd match on) 6 points – Robert Thornton +3.5 legs H/cp at 4/5 (1.8) with Betvictor

Around 9.10pm (4th match on) 6 points – Phil Taylor to win the match at Evens (2.0) with Betway. (Betfair market currently 1.87-2.44)

Excellent write up neo most informative my only bet tonight is Gary Anderson most 180s good luck all

  7. Graeme 10 years ago

good write ups guys cheers, any sign of the chief yet? he knows his darts aswell it seems?

  8. thechief 10 years ago

Afternoon Guys, Neo has covered a lot of the stats so I wont repeat them. A tough set of matches and some close ones that could go the distance.

    Chisnall v Van Barneveld

Nothing much between these two on their head to heads, RVB leads the series 3-2 with one draw which came earlier in the in league. Another close match is expected and I will be on both players to win 5 legs at 11/10 with sponsors Betway. Barneveld loves the 156 checkout and if Chisnall brings his scoring power, Barney may need to find a big finish. The checkout line is 120.5 and I think it will go over that 10/11 Boylesport. The other bet I like in this match is Chisnall to hit most 180s at 8/11 Skybet. Chisnall has hit 43 and tops the league in maximums hit.

BOTH PLAYERS TO WIN 5 LEGS 11/10
    MATCH CHECKOUT O120.5 10/11
    CHISNALL MOST 180s 8/11

    Wright v Anderson

These two met last week and Wright won 7-5. I was going with him to do a quick double, but remarkably he has changed his darts yet again. Anderson partner gave birth this week so I don’t imagine this game has been on his mind. Wright new darts may work for him but rather than risking it I will be on another tight match and therefore both to win 5 legs again at 11/10. I will also be on O5.5 match 180s at evens various. Again we don’t know how Wrights darts will go in but Ando could cover the line himself, if he is on form.

BOTH PLAYERS TO WIN 5 LEGS 11/10
    O5.5 TOTAL MATCH 180s 1/1

    Taylor v Lewis

The match of the night for me as a rejuvenated Taylor faces his protégé desperate to avenge a 7-3 hiding earlier in the season. Lewis has been hot and cold in the league and will have to start well, Taylor has throw and if he breaks Lewis first throw he could be 3-0 up in no time. I think Taylor is improving and will beat Lewis at evens Betway. Lewis only hit one maximum last week which was a major surprise. When these two met last there was seven maximums and Taylor was struggling back then. The line is set again at 6.5 and with Taylor improving I think this will go Over at 11/10 Betway.

    TAYLOR TO BEAT LEWIS 1/1
    O6.5 MATCH 180s 11/10

    Wright v Barneveld

The best advice would be too watch their opening games especially Wright with his new darts. As long as Wright doesn’t struggle badly with them I will be on him to win at 7/5.

As ever backing a 170 checkout on the night came up last week and as I say it gives you a bet throughout the night. It is 10/3 Coral.

Good luck if your having a bet

  25. DeAndre 10 years ago

Just heard that Parker and Duncan May be rested tonight against my Suns.

    Phoenix Suns to win (6-5).

Phoenix will be going gung-ho all season along with the Mavs and Grizzlies as they fight for the last 2 playoff spots, golden State could be dragged in to it aswell…lookout for these teams if they pop up at attractive odds, you’ll definitely get a run for your money.

  26. honda 10 years ago

Rusty wasn’t about for ages around the same time you went off, he was on yesterday or the day before to put up some tips, haven’t seen him since. As for 1a1n and George, haven’t seen them either, has the NHL finished. 34. dave 10 years ago

nice to see you back de andre

still plugging away with my player bets

winning slightly more than losing which is good

was waiting on faried on thursday night when he scored 2 pointer with 1 second left to bring up line

unfortunately last night paul george secured a place on the fud bus with 4 points in the dying seconds to put my line down

i thought the cavs would win last night too but some really strange shit going on with results this week as some teams are tanking and others already in play offs have been resting players etc

what are your picks for tonight on the moneyline and player bets

like the look of your treble rusty as well

  35. dave 10 years ago
