A LOT of you were following Al's £10 to £1000 challenge and after getting within reach of his prize his was hit with a sensible blow on the back of the head.
Having reached £715.87 he decided to bank £500, keep a tenner for his next attempt and out the rest on over 0.5 first-half goals at Athletic Bilbao v Valladolid and Jong PSV v De Graafschap.
That was beaten by a surprise scoreless first half in Eindhoven so Al made the right call. He's starting a new challenge today and such is the popularity of this feature you can follow his progress on this thread.
Be free to post your own effort if you decide to do one. We've been asked to do this on the site in the past but such is the pressure on time I've always shied away but it was mentioned several times by people who responded to the survey – and thanks to the hundreds who have taken time to answer the questions – so it's something we'll look at in the future.

Another couple of games that I’m looking at are the two games in the Latvian Cup tomorrow morning. Anyone who followed the overs bets in the summer will know how profitable these games were, often producing bucketloads of goals. The thing that puts me off these games though, is that I don’t really know enough about the sides involved to risk over £700 on them.
Greg, I like the look of the over 0.5 goals treble but if not I’d just go with Athletic Bilbao to win.

Al, I’ve not been very good at this kind of thing as I have crap discipline so fair enough if you wish to ignore my advice because you’ve done smashing doing what you’ve been doing.
I failed twice last night with Barcelona failing to win, and then starting up again with 0.5 fhg in Milan game which again failed.
My advice would be to to protect going all-in before a balls been kicked – how about just waiting in-play until something takes your fancy?

Unfortunately I fell just short on the challenge, but at the end of the day I’ve still turned £10 into £500 so got to be happy with that, although it would have been great to hit the £1000 target.
Looking at the results of the 5 on my shortlist, 3/5 would have been losers, 4/5 if Ath Bilbao fail to find a winner in the last 20 mins. So in a way I’ve dodged a bullet by banking the £500

AL, there wasn’t much choice but a couple of results have been surprising.
The only bet that won on my shortlist was the EVERTON double chance.
In the Ath Bilbao game the 1st half goal I was looking for arrived in the 15th minute
However the double was already beaten thanks to Jong PSV v De Graafschap drawing a first half blank!
Ended up £500 up after banking £510, which leaves me £10 to start the next challenge. Lets see how far we can go next time out!

£10 – £1000 Challenge Take 2!
Like in the last challenge I’ve started off with some bigger priced selections than I went with later on in the challenge. Every selection is still under evens, as you’ll see below with some reasoning for each selection. If you want to follow feel free, but if there’s any that don’t take your fancy just leave them out, or replace with your own selections.
Hopefully we can get off to a good start with these picks!
1700 – AC AJACCIO V CAEN – Both teams to score @ 5/6
Ajaccio sit bottom of Ligue 1, with just 9 points and 1 win from 21 games. With 38 goals conceded they have the 2nd worse defensive record in the division. The last 5 home games have seen both teams score, and 9 from the last 10.
Caen sit 7th in Ligue 2 and are the top scorers in the division with 37 goals in 20 games, conceding 26. Caen have scored in every away game this season.
1945 CREWE V MK DONS – Both teams to score @ 8/13
2nd bottom Crewe have conceded 53 goals in 26 games this season, the worst record in the division. 8 of their last 10 games have seen both teams score, keeping just 1 clean sheet & failing to score just once in that time.

West Ham have conceded 25 goals in the last 8 games! Including 3 in each of the last 3 games at home, 5 away to Nottingham Forrest, and 6 away at City in the first leg. Who knows what sort of team West Ham will put out, they sit in the relegation zone and could rest key players as there is no chance of them progressing. Whoever plays though they have been leaking goals left right & centre!

You may want to just do a single on the first game, which would allow you to wait until the team news is announced for the other 2 games. I’m just putting all 3 on in a treble though.

City won first keg by 6, I don’t know if they’ll be biting much today. Both teams should take this game easy, as they have more important fixtures ahead of them. That’ll keep me away from betting on them.
For over 0.5 FHG I’d suggest Roma-Juventus and Roda-Alkmaar – both are one-legged cup games and should provide goals. Roda game might be worth backing over 1.5 FHG.

Penguin I’m just going to do 1 write up each day with the selections for that day, won’t go on any early games to give everyone who wants to follow the chance to see the picks before a ball is kicked.
City is a touch risky, but with guys like Aguero & Joveric coming back from injury & likely to feature, it shows there is still a huge goal threat if Pellegrini decides to rest some players. Just look at the amount if goals city have been scoring recently, and remember all we need is 1 goal in both halves. That said if you don’t fancy it then leave it out or put in your own pick like a few others have done.
As I said though, the first few bets might be slightly riskier that they will be further into the challenge. But these 3 all look good on paper to me and going by the stats they’ve got every chance of coming in for us.
AL, it looks a City reserve team with Aguero up front. It’s risky but they should be too good for a West Ham side with nothing to play for. Looks like Carroll will make a first start and Nolan will be back. City should win IF they want to. If Aguero starts as expected he must be a shout for first goal and anytime scorer.
More than likely there will be a few changes to the Man City starting line up Mr F. Looking at their squad, this would be the line up if they wen’t with the players who’ve played the least in each position this season.
PANTILIMON, CLICHY, LESCOTT, DEMICHELIS, RICHARDS, GARCIA, RODWELL, FERNANDINHO, JOVETIC, SILVA, AGUERO
A line up like that should be more than enough to beat West Ham. And with a front 4 like that you’ve got to fancy them to score in both halves.
I reckon they’ll start with Aguero & 1 of Dzeko/Negredo, all of whom have been in excellent form this season.
If you don’t fancy it though leave them out or put up your own selections!

Yeah Tommy I’m aware that’s a cup game. Both teams look good for a goal in current form. If squads are rotated it gives fringe players a chance to impress so it’s not always a bad thing!

As I said though the first few bets are riskier than the ones later down the line, to try and build the pot up at the beginning.
