FRANCESCO MOLINARI gave me a 35-1 place on Sunday but unfortunately Emiliano Grillo just missed out when David Howell birdied the last. Hopefully I’ll have better luck this week.
Although Grillo didn’t give me a return at the Open de Espana I do think he can do the business at the BMW PGA Championship. I’ve said before the 23-year-old Argentine was one to watch this season and I’ve no reason to change my mind.
He is 27th on Tour in driving accuracy (68.2%) with 73.6% in GIR (22nd) and 29.2 for putts per round. He is 25th in the Race to Dubai and I can seen him improving on that as the season progresses.
It took Danny Willett nearly four years to win his second competition on the European Tour, the Nedbank Golf Challenge earlier this season.
He was T12 at the WGC Cadillac Championship, a really good T38 at The Masters and third at the WGC Matchplay and he is capable of a top-six finish. He has GIR stats of 75.35%, average putts per round of 28.75 and although his driving accuracy is only 58.48% he was averaging 65% last year so he is capable of hitting the fairway.
I wasn’t going to pick Francesco Molinari this week but every time I looked down the list of players his name just jumped out at me. He’s not had a great season on the PGA Tour but the two starts on the European Tour have netted him a T2 and T6.
When you average his stats from both Tours his driving accuracy and GIR are both around 68%. Looks good for another high finish this week.
Meanwhile, after another astonishing tournament victory last week Rory Mcllroy is a very short favourite to win at Wentworth.
He is a biggest 11-4 with the likes of William Hill and bet365. William Hill have opened betting on the margin of victory and it is 10-3 the tournament is won by four or more shots.
Margin Of Victory: 12-5 playoff, 5-2 One Shot, 10-3 Two Shots, 10-3 4 or more, 7-2 2 Shots, 9-2 3 shots.
Now to the States. With two T5s in 2012 and 2014 and a 62 in 2013 (T14) Ryan Palmer is my pick for the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, Fort Worth, Texas. Since a T6 at the Valero Open the Texan obviously loves playing in his home state and although Ryan has gone off the boil a T33 at The Masters wasn’t too bad.
As a member of The Colonial he would love to pick up the spoils this weekend.
I have to include Paul Casey this week. He had to withdraw from the Players Championship due to illness but when you look at his previous three tournaments (9th, T6 and T5) he certainly looks in good form. He is 18th in strokes gained tee to green and 15th in GIR which could be important where positioning and getting near the pin is going to play a big part.

malkster, Rory will be tough to beat this week but I prefer taking a big ew price instead of a short-priced winner so looking at Jamie Donaldson at 33-1 and maybe Ace’s Danny Willett who impressed me when I saw him up close at Augusta.
I was really impressed with how James Morrison won last week. Played superbly the last round with all that pressure on his shoulders, kept getting his driver out and finding the middle of the fairway.
James Morrison top 20 Finish 5/1 Ladbrokes
Sneaker at steel at 50/1. Win and a win double with Rory for masters 2016

BMW Championship – its gone back to the Tiger Woods days of having a 11-4 favourite which is too short for me the best bet would be to hope he was 5 shots off in last round and hopefully get 5/1 -6/1
