Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich

, KO: 17:30 Nov 30, 2024, Signal Iduna Park
Bayern Munich

Borussia Dortmund are set to take on Bayern Munich on Saturday, 30 September in what will be the first Der Klassiker of the 2024/25 season.

Bayern Munich come into the match on the back of a 1-0 win over PSG in the Champions League and with their European campaign now back on track, they will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the Bundesliga.

Borussia Dortmund also won in the Champions League this week, beating Dinamo Zagreb away from home. A win here would put them back in contention for the title.

How the bookies view it: The visitors start as favourites

Bayern Munich come into this match as the favourites which isn't a huge surprise given they have won their last six matches in all competitions. An away win has been priced at 4/6 by Betfred while a victory for Borussia Dortmund has been priced at 18/5. The draw, which wouldn't be a bad result for either side, has been priced at 16/5.

Recent head-to-head: Bayern dominance

This is a fixture that has been dominated by Bayern Munich over the past five years or so with the Bavarians winning 10 of the last 12 meetings between the two clubs. It's not all bad news for Borussia Dortmund, though, as they did win the most recent clash – a 2-0 win at the Allianz Arena in March.

Players to watch: A German classic to be settled by two Englishmen?

The biggest game in German football may well be settled by two English players on Saturday with Harry Kane and Jamie Gittens both set to line up for their respective clubs.

While Kane is arguably the most well-known English footballer on the planet, Jamie Gittens still has it all to do to prove that he can sustain a career at the top level but he is going about his business very efficiently this season.

The 20-year-old has scored seven goals and provided three assists in all competitions for Dortmund so far and his form is likely attracting the attention of new England manager, Thomas Tuchel, who knows more than his fair share about German football.

As far as Kane is concerned, a goal in a big game is still needed. While his figures this season are remarkable, he has failed to get on the scoresheet in the majority of Bayern's biggest matches, particularly on the road.

Predicted line-ups

Borussia Dortmund will be hoping to recall Karim Adeyemi on Saturday with the forward nearing a return after missing nearly two months with a hamstring injury. Emre Can will miss out due to suspension. Bayern Munich have problems in midfield with Joao Palhinha and Strahinja Pavlovic both injured.

Borussia Dortmund: Kobel – Ryerson, Anton, Schlotterbeck, Bensebaini – Gross, Nmecha – Beier, Sabitzer, Gittens – Guirassy

Bayern Munich: Neuer – Guerreiro, Upamecano, Kim, Davies – Goretzka, Kimmich – Olise, Musiala, Gnabry – Kane

Anything else catch the eye?

Bayern Munich have kept a clean sheet in each of their last six matches in all competitions and if Adeyemi remains out, then goals could be hard to come by for Dortmund. Bayern Munich to keep a clean sheet has been priced at 23/10.
