Ruud van Nistelrooy has suddenly emerged as the favourite to take over the Leicester City manager position, after Graham Potter and David Moyes had previously led the race.
After former gaffer Steve Cooper was sacked in the wake of the Foxes' 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at the weekend, those running the midlands club have been searching for a new boss to steer the club towards safety.
With Leicester only one point above the relegation zone, Van Nistelrooy is now priced at just 2/5 go take the helm at the King Power Stadium, after talks were allegedly held with the club.
The Dutchman had most recently been interim manager of Manchester United, and guided the ailing club to three wins in four matches.
Van Nistelrooy leads Leicester City managerial race
Following this development, David Moyes' and Graham Potter's odds have subsequently slipped to 15/1 and 12/1 respectively, meaning neither now represents a good choice in the current market.
Van Nistelrooy only departed Old Trafford two weeks ago, after a successful spell as interim manager, and was also reported to have thrown his hat in the ring to take over at Coventry City. However, the club are expected to imminently announce Frank Lampard as manager, as opposed to the Dutchman.
It now seems almost certain that Van Nistelrooy will instead take charge of Leicester, and punters should back him before prices are further cut.
Van Nistelrooy could bring a lot of experience to Leicester
A successful spell at PSV Eindhoven is the former Man United striker's only taste of permanent management. A return of 2.2 points per game and 34 wins from 50 matches is undeniably an excellent one, which saw PSV finish second in the table and also take home the KNVB Cup.
Van Nistelrooy left the club in favour of the assistant manager role at Old Trafford due to a lack of support during his tenure, but evidently gained a great deal of experience and displayed astute managerial capabilities.
The former striker, who made over 150 appearances for Man United, has evidently decided that a step down will be the method through which he will secure his next permanent position. Ruben Amorim was preferred to the Dutchman, but he has not let this deter him from seeking out a new opportunity.
Both Leicester and Coventry have been struggling so far this season, so Van Nistelrooy's applications to such clubs demonstrates that he has a point to prove.
Whether Van Nistelrooy ends up at Leicester or not, it would appear that his next position is not very far away. He has a wealth of playing experience at the top level under his belt, and as such, Foxes fans will be hoping he can implement this to guide them towards a mid-table finish and Premier League survival.
