Ross County vs Motherwell

, KO: 15:00 Nov 23, 2024, Victoria Park
Motherwell

MOTHERWELL will look to potentially climb up to fourth position in the Scottish Premiership table on Saturday afternoon as they make the long trip north to Dingwall to take on Ross County.

Ross County saw their three-match unbeaten run come to an end just before the international break, as they suffered a 3-0 defeat away at high-flying Dundee United.

Whilst that defeat extended County’s winless run away from home in the Scottish Premiership to 23 matches (W0-D9-L14), they have been far more competitive at home this campaign, losing just two of their opening seven contests (W2-D3-L2), with both of those coming narrowly against the top two.

Motherwell impressively began the season, picking up 13 points from their opening seven Premiership matches (W4-D1-L2), with both losses coming in 2-1 defeats away at Aberdeen and Rangers.

Stuart Kettlewell’s men did go on to lose back-to-back matches at home to Dundee and Celtic, but consecutive 2-1 wins away at Dundee United and home to St Johnstone have propelled The Steelmen into fifth position, behind fourth-placed Dundee United only on goal difference.

How the bookies view it: More away-day success for Well?

Motherwell travel to Dingwall as favourites, with Unibet offering odds of 13/8 for The Steelmen to claim their fourth away victory of the campaign.

Ross County are priced up at 9/5 to claim all three points, whilst a draw is 12/5 at Bet365.

Head to head: The Well done well in this fixture in recent times

Motherwell have lost just one of their previous 10 meetings with The Staggies, winning six of them (W6-D3-L1).

Players to watch: More goals for Maswanhise?

Ronan Hale is The Staggies’ leading scorer in the Premiership with four, with their of those coming at their Dingwall base.

Motherwell’s Zimbabwean striker Tawanda Maswanhise has scored three goals in his last two Premiership appearances – including a double in their previous away match at Tannadice – and is a massive 9/2 to score anytime at Bet365.

Probable line-ups

County manager Don Cowie may make a couple of alterations following his side’s 3-0 defeat at Tannadice last time out. Will Nightingale, Max Sheaf and George Harmon remain out.

Harry Paton made his return from injury last time out but may settle for a place on the bench again. Paul McGinn, Ross Callachan, Callum Slattery, Sam Nicholson and Jack Vale are sidelined.

Ross County: Laidlaw, Wright, Lopata, Leak, Brown, Randall, Nisbet, Denholm, Campbell, Hale, White
Motherwell: Oxborough, Casey, Balmer, Seddon, Kaleta, Sparrow, Miller, Halliday, Wilson, Stamatelopolous, Maswanhise

Anything else catch the eye?”

Goals have been a feature of Motherwell’s matches in the Scottish top flight this season, with their opening 11 matches in the Premiership have averaged 2.64 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in nine of their past 10, including in 5/5 (100%) on the road.

Both Teams to Score has also been a winning selection in eight of those 10 matches – including in 5/5 (100%) on the road.

Ross County’s contests aren’t quite as entertaining, but three of their past four Premiership fixtures on home soil have seen Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals payout.

Prior to their goalless draw on the opening day of the season, the past four meetings between the pair have yielded an incredible 20 goals – with Over 2.5 Goals landing on each occasion – and I’m happy to take a chance on goals in this one.
