CoralTVTrophy Greyhounds

Thursday night means we get back down to greyhound business. When last in action, for the second time in a row, we hit two nice winners from three bets, with Hurry Up Ivy rating as a very nice winner at odds that were simply far too big. Hopefully the pleasing form continues.

Today’s greyhound tips

Tonight, as has often been the case, I’m interested in the cards at Newcastle and Monmore, where I like the look of three bets, odds allowing.

Before we get into the tips, I will continue to stress the following: the odds in brackets are the minimum odds to take. If those odds or bigger are available, the dog in question is a bet. If shorter odds are on offer when priced up, there’s no bet. In other words, the minimum odds to take are the lowest possible price that offers value for money based on my own pricing of the race (to 100%).

Tip 1: La Princesa (take odds of 5/2+)

Race #2 Newcastle @ 18:53

In a contest where there isn’t a huge amount of early pace, La Princesa could find herself getting to the first bend in front, which would leave the race at her mercy.

She’s been trialing recently, posting the sort of times that would likely be good enough to go very close here, while if she can get anywhere near the sort of level shown when winning well in this grade back in July, then she’s a big, big player.

I expect Trap 5 to be well supported, which should allow us to get what I would call a generous price on the white jacket. Sure, the orange jacket has a decent chance here, but his strike rate is poor, with him often finding one too good.

Tip 2: Glenrock Bono (take odds of 6/4+)

Race #4 Monmore @ 19:06

Only a few minutes after the Newcastle race above concludes, it’s off to Monmore, where Glenrock Bono has found a nice opening if you ask me.

Having won at both A10 and A9 level recently, this lightly-raced and improving dog wasn't disgraced in a better A8 than this a week ago, finishing powerfully.

Often slow to get into stride, he’s fortunate that this looks like a race devoid of early pace, and as a dog that typically runs on strongly, he ought to have the measure of these, providing he avoids trouble.

In this field, I make him a sturdy favourite and if anything like 6/4 is available when the prices go up, I’ll be getting involved.

Tip 3: Crooks Cookie (take odds of 11/4+)

Race #9 Newcastle @ 20:54

Ahead of the ninth race at Newcastle, Millhill Grace in Trap 5 is sure to be very popular and is likely to go off at quite a short price. She’s unexposed and clearly warrants respect having gone close on her first run at this level last time out.

However, her likely short odds should leave us to get a generous price on Crooks Cookie, who goes in Trap 1 and is not to be ignored at this level.

The dog in the red jacket recently dropped back down to racing in A5’s and has posted two very solid efforts in second. This is a dog that won an A3 earlier in the year, while if he gets out with his usual gusto, he isn’t likely to have much competition on his immediate outside.

Quite simply, I think he’s going to be a bigger price than he should be and I’d be far from surprised if he’s there challenging when it matters most. 11/4 or bigger and I’ll be betting on him.

Acca bet & other markets to explore

Those looking to play a multi bet here, using the minimum odds to take as an example, you should be looking at something like 31/1, which would be worth taking from a value point of view. Anything lower and I’d be less keen in that sense.
