Juventus will host Parma just three days after taking part in one of the most exhilarating Serie A fixtures of recent years. And the three points are mandatory.
It's hard to describe the emotions of Sunday's clash, which once again proved why Serie A is the most competitive league in Europe. Juventus travelled to Milano and managed to steal a point after conceding four goals in 53 minutes. Two goals in the final 20 minutes helped them to a 4-4 draw.
It was a tough week for The Old Lady as they also lost to Stuttgart in the Champions League. But they remain the only undefeated side in Serie A, primarily thanks to their exceptional defence. Juventus had conceded a single goal in eight rounds before allowing Inter to score four on Sunday. They managed to shut down almost every other team but the current champions.
Parma’s return to the elite has not gone according to plan and the trip to the Allianz Stadium could push them further down into the relegation zone. Fabio Pecchia’s squad managed a single famous win since the start of the season, a 2-1 over AC Milan in Round 2.
The last seven rounds did not feature Parma in the winning column, although four of their last five turned out level.
How the bookies view it: The Old Lady to best the Crociati
Bookmakers estimated that Parma have little to no hope of winning Wednesday’s clash. Betano gave Juventus ⅖ to win, while the visitors have been valued at 29/4. The draw is available at 15/4.
Recent head-to-head: Parma must hate this trip
This ancient rivalry hasn’t been competitive in years, with Juventus claiming most points from the recent H2Hs. The Old Lady won eight of the last 10 meetings, although the most recent one dates back to 2021.
Players to watch: Balkan dominance
Kenan Yildiz stormed the pitch in the 62nd minute against Inter and immediately made an impact. His late brace won the point for Juventus and helped them keep their unbeaten streak alive. We expect him to be in the starting line-up this time but it is hard to expect back-to-back scoring from the young Turkish winger.
Dusan Vlahovic remains the best option, having scored six goals in nine Serie A appearances this season. The Serbian also scored Juve’s opening goal against Inter.
Probable line-ups
Juventus: Di Gregorio, Savona, Kalulu, Gatti, Cabal, Thuram, Locatelli, Conceicao, Yildiz, Weah, Vlahovic
Parma: Suzuki, Coulibaly, Del Prato, Balogh, Valeri, Sohm, Bernabe, Man, Hernani, Mihaila, Bonny
Anything else catch the eye?
Things should be back to normal at Juventus as Parma lack the firepower to repeat what Inter achieved. Let’s not forget that Thiago Motta’s team remains the strongest defensive side in the league and the few missteps so far were entirely due to mistakes up front.
This should be a straightforward fixture and we can’t expect any extremes. Juventus have a horrible schedule and cannot afford to spend extra energy on a team like Parma.
Alternatively, you can consider adding some corners to the mix as Parma are leading the Serie A in average corners per match. Their average in away games is 13.50, giving their opponents an average of 7.00 per match.
