This match mostly comes down to Cilic playing about as good as he can. Tabilo is a tough player and has played good tennis this year. He can also be very strong indoors as proven over time.
It’s not his best surface, but he has a good serve and plays doubles, so he’s comfortable going forward. Cilic is a known commodity with tremendous experience.
He’s still one of the best players if he’s playing close to his best, and his return so far has been impressive. The way he won the Hangzhou event certainly proves that.
We think this will be a very close match that could end up in two tiebreaks. However, we’ve loved how Cilic has played on his comeback, and we think he will continue that here.
It being indoors just makes it so that an ace or just a forehand could get it done. Cilic has both at a high level, so we think he’ll be able to win a close matchup.
Thiem to defeat Darderi @ 7/5
Thiem is one of the best players to ever come out of Austria. This event is in Austria, and he’s retiring after this one. That’s why we’re backing him to win, because it’s going to be so significant.
We highly doubt that he’ll bow out of the event without winning at least one match. Darderi is a wonderful draw for him because the Italian is not good indoors or on hard courts generally.
Darderi is 1-9 on hard courts this year and 0-1 indoors. Thiem has always been rather solid indoors, and he knows this event well. His family will be there, and he’s just a better player indoors.
That’s it really. He’s going to be motivated, and he’s a better player, so why not take advantage of these odds which are hugely generous. We couldn’t believe it, and this is massive value due to the odds.
