TOTTENHAM and Bayern Munich will play each other for the second time in a week on Saturday when they face off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Last week, the two clubs met in the USA as part of their respective pre-season tours but now they will meet again back in London in Tottenham's final warm-up match before the beginning of the Premier League season.
Bayern Munich have a little longer to prepare before the start of the Bundesliga at the end of the month but they will still be keen to put on a good show with some of their key players now available after their international exertions.
How the bookies view it: Bayern go in as favourites
Despite being the away team and less prepared, Bayern Munich are the favourites for this match with the bookmakers. Tottenham have been priced as the 9/5 underdogs with Betfred while a Bayern Munich win has been priced at 1/1. The draw, which isn't exactly worthwhile for anyone in a pre-season friendly, has been priced at 3/1.
Recent head-to-head: Two matches in a week
As mentioned earlier, this is the second time that these two clubs have played each other this summer with the first match less than a week old. On that occasion, Bayern Munich ran out as 2-1 winners and they do seem to enjoy playing Spurs. In 2019, the two clubs were drawn in the same Champions League group and Bayern won by a score of 10-3 across the two matches.
Players to watch: The return of a legend
This match will feel like more than just a pre-season friendly for one man in particular on Saturday as it marks the first time that Harry Kane has returned to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since he left the club to join Bayern Munich last summer.
Kane is a certified Tottenham legend and the club's record goalscorer so the match could be an emotional one for the England captain. Kane never got to say goodbye properly last summer so this match will provide him with that opportunity and he is expected to receive a raucous reception from the Spurs faithful.
On the pitch, the match is important to Kane, too, as it will be his first outing since England's Euro 2024 final defeat. There are question marks around whether he is now past his best so a good start to the new season will be important to allow him to silence that speculation.
Predicted line-ups
In addition to Harry Kane, Eric Dier will also play against his old club on Saturday. However, Bayern are still set to be without Jamal Musiala who is being given extra time to recover after Euro 2024.
Spurs are without Richarlison for this one which leaves them a little light at the top of the pitch. South American trio, Lo Celso, Bentancur and Romero could all play after returning to training this week.
