Friday’s Football Tips: Falkirk out to lay down a marker against Queen’s Park on their return to the SPFL Championship

THE SPFL season gets back underway tonight and promoted Falkirk will be out to make a splash as they host Queen's Park in the Championship.

John McGlynn's men went the entire league campaign unbeaten last term as they romped to the League One title and ended a four-year exile from the second tier.

That momentum seems to have carried into the new season as the Bairns went on to top a League Cup group that included Championship rivals Ayr and Premiership new boys Dundee United.

With no heavy favourite in Scotland's second tier this season it wouldn't be a surprise if Falkirk pushed for a second successive promotion.

But you could say the same for almost every team in a wide-open league and Queen's Park could also be dark horses now that Callum Davidson has a full season at the helm.

The Spiders also looked good in the League Cup and qualified for the last 16 as one of the best runners-up, with only goal difference keeping them below Hibs in Group C.

Falkirk v Queen's Park Top Betting Tips

Both these sides were scoring for fun in the League Cup group stage, with Queen's Park netting 16 times across their four games and Falkirk grabbing 11 goals.

That bodes well for an entertaining game tonight and over 2.5 goals pays 4/5 at Betfred while BTTS is a bit shorter at 8/11. Combining those selections will take you to 11/10 at Bet365.

With the home crowd behind them I'm expecting a strong start from the Bairns but they're just 8/13 at Betfred to score first. Backing McGlynn's side to win the first half is better at 7/5.

For a long-odds option, Queen's Park midfielder Roddy MacGregor is 17/2 for anytime scorer at Bet365 after netting doubles in his last two outings.

France v Argentina Top Tips

It's quarter-final time at the Olympics and there's a clash of the titans as hosts France take on Argentina.

This has turned into a real grudge match after France's defeat in the World Cup Final and the storm over Enzo Fernandez posting a racist song on social about Les Bleus' players.

Argentina have already been involved in one rammy at the Olympics after losing 2-1 to Morocco in their opener in a game that ended with crowd trouble and a VAR storm.

So this could be spicy tonight and I fancy Thierry Henry's side to exact some revenge at 21/20 with Befred.

The half-time draw also looks good at 11/10 while going for cards could also be a shrewd move. Argentina skipper Nicolas Otamendi often dives into rash challenges so he looks good at 21/10 with Bet365 to go in the book.

Japan v Spain Top Tips

There's another clash of the titans at the Olympics as in-form Japan take on a Spanish side who have failed to impress so far.

The Spanish beat the Blue Samurai in the semi-finals of the last Games in Japan so this is another revenge mission.

The Japanese will fancy their chances after Spain lost to Egypt in their last outing and they're a tempting 6/4 to reach the semis.

Going for goals is probably safer though and BTTS appeals at evens.
